[Interview] ArcheAge: Dread Prophecies Sets Sail & Brings Something for Everyone

BillMurphyBillMurphy Former Managing EditorMember LegendaryPosts: 4,565

No one is more excited for tomorrow’s update than ArcheAge’s Merv Lee Kwai. Called “Dread Prophecies”, the update is the largest yet for the game since it launched. There’s a huge feature list for Dread Prophecies and what makes it especially cool is that it affects all phases of life for players. There is, quite literally, something for everybody.

Let's just clear up the confusion..Trion divided up the update into 2 halves to suck up more of your money. Nothing else...

I guess Merv Lee Kwai is excited..hopefully, his job is on the line after the way he runs the game and maybe Trion will get a clue and fire his ass when the update fails to impress any new players.

    Vote with your wallet.

Too bad this game has such a fucked up way of monetizing gameplay/content.

Would have been a helluva good sub only game.

Why fleece the suckers once when you can do it twice?

Anyone who didn't already quit this game because of the business model is apparently perfectly fine with being treated as an ATM machine.

So it is not a surprise.

Too bad, the game itself is good, even if the company thinks everyone who plays it is a chump.

You're dreaming, never going to happen. If you are really lucky Innova EU might do it.

That's what I'm talking about. Plenty of NA/EU players waiting:

As a publisher for this game. Trion has only a little bit of leverage into the business model as well as content and mechanics to the game. Please stop ripping on Trion over this. The only thing they can be accused of is either not investigating the business model/practices of XL Games. Or simply not caring enough and publishing the game anyway. As bad as it is, Trion has pulled strings to lessen the blow of XL Games f2p model.

Trion screwed up, but the ones deserving of your anger is XL Games.

They must be making money off some suckered or they wouldn't keep pulling this crap. I wouldn't touch this game, which represents the epitome of greed in the mmo world.

Gaming community did its part too. People only wants "free" entertainment, F2P shitty games, "I don't like to pay monthly", blablabla. Here it is, what they deserve.

I've played alpha and beta and would only come back if they get rid of the hackers/trading bots and P2W which is never going to happen so gl.

Great game and getting better but what is the point in anyone trying it or coming back?  No land free as many people own 10 plus lots now.  You would have to grind until you got carple tunnel to even have a chance at competing in PVP and the crafting system is one of the worst ones I have ever seen.  Who makes a crafting system where your skill has NOTHING to do with the outcome of crafting?

Sadly what could have been the most successful game of this decade will sit with its niche player base and milk the crap out of them as they continue the mammoth gear grind and the higher the gear level gets, the more it locks out new players who will leave the game after getting two-shotted in pvp.

Agreed, so much potential destroyed by idiocy and greed. This game could have made so much more money as a sub game without pay to win.

I'd love to see some actual research and data backing up this claim. I think the everything model (subscription + cash shop + b2p (alpha packs) + f2p) is far more profitable - based on the simple fact that so many games are using it.

Not for THIS game. Though you probably won't admit it because we all know your history of defense of this game, there was a mass exodus shortly after release due to many issues, but themain one being the cash shop greed trion imposed on the population and destroyed the economy with it. I have no doubt this game would have been much more successful if it were handled better.

Honestly the only reason I hate on cash shops is because that is what developers start spending their time on. ALL of their time. Archeage is one of the worst for that.
  • DullahanDullahan Member EpicPosts: 4,536
I'd reinstall ArcheAge this second if they opened new subscription servers, removed cash shop, and at least tripled the daily labor gain (probably just remove it from all but crafting/gathering).

i normally dont support subscriptions (i prefer B2P like GW2), but i think i would also play AA again if there was a sub only server without a cash shop unbalancing everything. B2P with a decent cash shop and P2P are two more balanced business models but as soon as you throw in F2P to the mix the game gets completely unbalanced towards whoever pays more.

XL Games and Trion are some of the dumbest gaming companies around and their current customers are of course descendants of this great way of thinking. By all means, support the game because ArcheAge is a great game. However, by doing so, you just prove to game companies that you'll bend over for them whenever they want you to because you don't care about being treated fairly.

Most games I run in to see a way to pay for some type of rush with real money even sub games. Archeage it is a game have to pay to rush faster, but people can enjoy it with out paying, if people can't control there wallet then it's not game for them.

Name a few sub games doing good? as sub, pass last year trying to make it didn't get the player base they needed to keep it's going.

Game was a huge disappointment, I can't believe Trion released this half assed garbage. I enjoyed RIft,  played on and off since beta so thought AA would be ok. Wrong answer, they can release the sun and moon for this game, mmorpg can snuggle Trion's  but all they want  but I'll never touch another product from Trion again. ,
