I might have tried it except for two things:

Gender locked classes (oh, also - sure, great customization except you can't make a young wizard, or a thin warrior, etc - so, actually, not great customization)

PVP gank fest crap. Again. So sick of every "sandbox" MMO thinking that means you have to have PVP shoved down your throat. No thanks.
It's a PVP game, nothing is being shoved down your throat.  It's like saying I would have bought a car but then I'd be stuck with a car.

Gender locking is the least of your worries... not only are you stuck being a female ranger, you basically will look like all the other rangers in the game unless you invest in costumes.  Liken it to say choosing to be a gnome in WoW... doesn't matter whether you choose to be a happy gnome, an old gnome, or a evil gnome... you are still a gnome when seen by others.  Doesn't matter if you are male or female... still a gnome.  What you are wearing doesn't make you any less a gnome... that's the very first thing people notice... you're a gnome.

So while people are in an uproar about being stuck as a female... they miss an even more prevalent issue that affects all classes whether they are male or female... they all wear the same damn thing throughout the game.

Remember the early videos when they only had a few classes and all you saw were rangers because that was the first class people got to try... a sea of rangers running around?  Well that is what you see in game now too... because no one looks any different based solely on class choice... it's not a gender lock issue... it's more a gear appearance issue that smacks you in the face.

I wouldn't have bought it if it was a PvP gankfest. The measures to stop psychopaths in this game are quite effective.
I like how you say that, haha. Its definitely a refreshing change to have some sort of accountability for going around killing people in a game.

Everyone has an opinion on whether a game is great, so so or bad. Don't buy into any of it and try it for yourself. Many times I find that I like a game or movie that critics say is horrible. That is because everyone has different likes and dislikes.

Others have already answered the PvP part, so I'll skip that. Yes, the classes might be gender locked, but they intend to have opposite gender counterparts for each of them.

Currently Warrior & Valkyrie, and Wizard & Witch are some of those pairs, with more on the way.
    http://forum.blackdesertonline.com/index.php?/topic/18464-interview-with-the-developers/

Will there be any male counterparts for Ranger, Sorceress, Valkyrie, and Tamer?

It is hard to give a concrete answer to this matter because we are always trying our best to create a truly fun and innovative character, rather than copying an existing one, with a sex change. Creating the same class, but a different gender, takes almost the same amount of resources as creating a completely new class. This has changed the overall direction of class development towards creating new classes, which will provide an entirely new experience for players. Currently, there is no plan to create a male version of Ranger, Sorcerer and Tamer. We might however provide a counterpart that offers a similar look and feel such as Valkyrie vs. Warrior with slight adjustments to fit its nature.

My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)

They keep making games like this because you all keep buying them, stop buying them =)
So people are supposed to stop buying stuff they like because you dont like it?

Here is a better idea- if you dont like something just avoid it, steer clear from it, stay away from any of its forums, articles etc, act like it never existed and for you it will never exist.

Well ''open pvp'' they have equalize PVP with PK. PK sounds bad, video games not even PK fans want to be associate with this tag, so they simply equalize PK with PVP.Also here in the forum, pay attention if people talk about PVP or they talk about PK. Actually mmos had rarely problems not to offer pvp, most of them have offer pvp in one way or another, they did not offer open PK possibility, this was possible only on pvp servers. But otherwise I don't belive that pve servers would make sense in Black Desert Online, Blade & Soul,...those games are very flimsy in pve content or any kind of content.

Let me clue you on nodes so you can understand their importance.

You have to open a chain of nodes across the world so you can send the materials from a node to different cities and depending on market conditions and cost to make more profit. You need workers so you hire workers from different places to work the nodes like mine, forest, farm, etc so you don't have to do it. You have to have stations to produce product through the crafting from raw materials. You level up your nodes to get lower taxes and better bargaining power with the market.  You level your workers to get better rare harvests and better materials and more production.

It is extremely time consuming so you go out and do quests and kill mobs to get items that are not produced by nodes.

    It's frickin addictive as hell.
I haven't played the game yet, but this certainly sounds interesting. People have been asking for this type of thing for years.

EQ1, EQ2, SWG, SWTOR, GW, GW2 CoH, CoV, FFXI, WoW, CO, War,TSW and a slew of free trials and beta tests

What does F2P or B2P even matters?
What does a cashop even matter?

Apart from some moot rambling on forums... :-P

Game mechanics and content design are very different based on the business model.  So, it matters to me very much if a cash shop is included, especially how invasive and obnoxious it is and how content revolves around it.  There is a notable amount of masochism in F2P games that is hard to tolerate without the XP bonus potions or percent modifiers for loot drops or keys for chests or ugly gear graphics if you don't buy store versions....etc.

In general, game play that feels punishing or depriving due to cash shop design is a huge turn off for this gamer.

It's true only if those games are actually B2P.

Nowadays B2P is another way of saying we are F2P but we force you to buy the core game too.

    hey Jean-Luc_Picard

I hope you're ready for this. Keep in mind I bought the game too and based on the hype we all generated ok.

I found this out through the boards over the last couple days (verified and corrected by others) and what was released is not what you think.

first off they have removed black spirts quest so anyone buying the game thinking they can stop at 44 are going to be hit in the face when they don't get it and are not locked at 44. you get PvP enabled at 45 and level up. You can not stop leveling process except to quit the game.

Due to cave in from PvP crowd and the fact the developer wants to encourage PvP if you get flagged on you have two choices. Die and lose experience and let the attacker take less karma hit or fight him and not lose experience. If you fight there is no consequences but if you don't fight them you are going to lose experience and the karma hit is low enough that you will work harder to regain it than the guy that popped you working off his karma.

if you joined a guild you will eventually level it to be PvP enabled and any guild can declare war on you and attack you without consequences and loss of karma whether you accept it or not and they don't have to pay a high fee anymore to keep the war going. If you do accept then all members in your guild are attackable from level 4 on without consequences and without karma hits.

the game you think you bought is not what it appears but is OW FFA PvP post 45 with some PvE content to do.

just like I said DF all over with a shinny hook and big fat worm

I am by miles certainly no BDO expert but on the surface it just looks same old to me ,like Archeage like Lineage same ideals behind pvp designs.Even their class designs are just spam spam spam, nothing has changed from Korean stereotypes.

Of course to each their own but i tend to like Jrpg type game design better....some of it not all of it lol.Jrpg's seem to put more character into their characters and more soul into the game as well create deeper systems than just whacka mole and in case of Korean it's super whacka mole.

Now they do deserve some credit for at least taking the same old crappy ideas and trying to add in some NA type and creative type content.

Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

This is why I don't pre-order games. I like to wait a few months after a game releases so that I can read actual player reviews about a game.

I've learned not to take any notice of 'professional' reviewers or media coverage.
    This
I learned my lesson a long time ago.
