And not a single word about the outrageous cash shop prices? Really? Like there is no 140 pages thread on the official forums? I MEAN REALLY?
It's just a part one review, they are waiting to see how Daum will act and if they can fix the numerous issues with the game first.
To be honest Black Desert is decent at what it's doing, sadly it's lacking a lot of the important things that other MMOs have - Great PvE/PvP Endgame (Raids, Dungeons, Battlegrounds, Arenas, WvWvW). The score for the longetivity will be very low, because honestly there just isn't enough content, not nearly enough for the majority of MMO gamers.
Those things that you say BDO is lacking is what, for many of us, makes BDO such a welcome and refreshing alternative to the hundreds of clones featuring that same end game content. All I can say is hallelujah to the fact that BDO doesn't have raids, dungeons, battlegrounds, arenas etc. Those are game features that remove players from a vibrant world resulting in worlds that are empty, lifeless, boring and frankly not worth living in.
Yes BD will have "many" that will love it for that very reason, but the vast majority will start criticizing it very soon when they find out that BD has actually very little meaningful content.
Sure some might say that "sandbox" MMO's don't need any kind of content updates, but there is a reason why these kind of MMOs can't compete with the "themepark" MMOs at all. Usually once you are 100 hours into these kind of games you've seen it all, and you just kinda RP till the end of your life. However BD doesn't fall into either category, it's both sandbox and themepark, it's supposed to deliver on both ends, and currently it's not doing a very good job at it.
As a sandbox MMO it's in a solid place, some features and systems are exceptional, though far from perfect. If they'd concentrate on making it 100% sandbox, the game would have been way better. But as a themepark it doesn't offer anything at all. Quests are garbage, especially with the newer MMOs featuring very good voice acting and story writing (ESO, SWTOR). There is no option to level through dungeons. If you want to enjoy BD you need to love grinding, and well most players don't..Besides nearly all MMOs allow you to grind, so it's not like it's some additional feature.
I would like to say that it's PvP will be so crazy good that at least PvPers will continue to fund this game, but that's just not going to happen. PvPers have far better alternatives in other MMOs.
What the heck are you talking about. Sandbox, not even close. You obviously have no clue what a sandbox is. And yep if people last 6 months in game I will be surprised because there is basically NO end game content to speak of. Just looking at all the beautiful graphics will get old soon enough.
I just Bill's review here not for what it contains, but for what it doesn't contain. It's a good example of knowing your own limitations on how much you can really absorb in a matter of days. ...looking forward to the followup(s)
The Black Desert is not about the pvp and capping out as soon as you can. If you want to pvp fine but don't be spinning that this game is all about end game pvp because it's not.
Why is it when something new and interesting comes along folks want to hurry up and cap out. That's just plain silly in Black Desert just as it was and still is silly in EQ2. I really think most folks completely miss the whole point of the developers intentions. It's like when BnS launched, right away everyone hops on the end game train I fail to see the enjoyment in that. Besides there is way more content in Black Desert do you know there are over 2 million words of quest dialog in this game. That's pretty far from being short on content. ijs

I completely agree with you, its been just the last few years that MMO's became about end game and treadmill. The first MMO's were actually Role Playing Games with a progression system (sometimes several) that were about the journey.
The whole hit cap and be epic leetz movement is dumbing down the genre. Playing BDO is for me, renewing that sense of wonder and awe that the first MMO's gave me.
I've read that the quests are terrible, and there is no real direction
to gameplay. So you get basically an Action RPG setup where the goal is
to level up your character by fighting hordes of opponents.

Isn't that all Eastern MMOs in a nutshell?
