speaking personally I would really really really really really really really like somoene to post of names of MMOs that are examples of 'not a themepark' or even better 'are a sandbox'
    Landmark is a sandbox
    Also Wurm Online.

    on that point
Landmark = build things that dont really have a purpose
Wurm = nearly everything you build has a purpose.

    just side noting it

There are pure sandbox MMO's like Wurm Online and so on. Games like ArcheAge or Black Desert Online are definitely not themepark, but they are not pure sandbox either. So yes, I would have to agree that BDO is more or less a Sandpark / Themebox. What sets it apart from themeparks is the amount of features and complexity, much like Eve Online.
and I agree with that as well.

what spured my question is when someone said BDO is a themepark and on that I dont agree and was trying to get him to provide examples

I despise this site so much some times...

The negativity here is so widespread... a bunch of cynical rhetoric ...

There is no "concrete" definition for sandbox.... there is no "blatant" definition for themepark...

By some peoples definition of sandbox.. Hearthstone would be considered sandbox...

BDO is a solid game... it hits the right notes in A LOT of areas... it is the most complete action MMO to date...

It is Not a Sandbox in the sense that you cannot alter the world,..at All.  No player run cities.  No un-Instanced housing. Not even  harvestor placement or territory claiming.

It is very anti-social in all the restrictions( to supposedly combat gold sellers/scammers).

It IS a Sandbox in the sense that it is not a lock down linear progression. You can do stuff out of order. Go grind or quest, whatever.

It is an online First-Person Farmville /  PvP-grinder.  Have yet to see Sieges and such which would mean fighting over pre-existing forts for tax revenue.

Altering the world does not mean sandbox....
Players run cities do not mean sandbox....
Un instanced housing does not mean sandbox....

None of the things you mentioned mean sandbox... they are parts of a sandbox... but they are not inclusive....

    that's cool.

Maybe I didn't express it well enough.  I am saying that it is Both after all,  a few sentences later.

I won't argue definitions , it's been done to death.

A sandbox just isn't a sandbox without those nice little surprises that your Kitty leaves behind.

I take it that you never had an outside sandbox as a kid. Because if you had, you'd know exactly what I was talking about.

It's a Sandpark mmo, combination of themepark and sandbox.

EvE is sandbox (and obviously with some themepark stuff here and there). Imagine EvE today, if people couldn't trade directly with each other, share hangar space, do fleet operations having ships with fleet hangars at their disposal and so on. Not titans, no capitals, no large fleets, no intra-aliance logistics and mini economies, no big wars, nothing.

But BDO ? Where any group effort is prohibited by the game design (except some zergy pvp) ? Sorry, but it's a glorified singleplayer game. And near 100% pristine themepark from the start to the end.

What are you even talking about mate. Holy shit. It's like you haven't even played BDO and know only one thing that there is little to no player-to-player trading. I mean come the fuck on lol you must be one fit son of a gun by how many times you jump to conclusions.  10/10.

    Trading System

You can become a trader. Try to now the city/town economy and carry goods across to sell to npcs for higher prices depending on what they need or want the most. However in your travels be you in a group or solo there will be thieves on the road to watch over as you carry heavy trading supplies that slow your movement speed if you are carrying them via backbag.

Players can also opt to have their horses carry wagons with your goods and therefore carry more and move faster although on bumpy roads one should be careful as to not damage their items.

The trading system is also intertwined with the guild missions and can if used well earn your guild more income to help its progress including its own fair experience to earn guild points.

You could in theory hire or have friends as bodyguards to keep you safe as you travel from either hostile players or more commonly npc thieves on roads

Some of these features mentioned are as of now in the Korean game but will be added to the NA/EU version of BDO very soon but we're judging the game itself as it truly is and will be and less in its infancy on the Eu/NA region

    Sticky worthy post !

    Pure poison for the haters.

    Very nice indeed.

Forgot to add, crappy ass combat. I actually was excited for this game, but since the combat was absolutely terrible to me, none of what was posted matters to me.
