This week in Black Desert Online, I managed to hit level 24… after 7 days, 18 hours, and 5 minutes of playing and AFK-ing. But enough about how I’ll never hit level 50 – let’s talk about what to do with all that silver lining your pockets.

I enjoy it, but as we've discussed on Twitter (ScottJ) Bill, I keep finding things to do besides combat skill level my main with the limited game time I have everyday LOL.

I didnt even know this whole private node system existed, fascinating :p

    +1

I still haven't been involved in the housing and node business. My calpheon storage has about 15 gold ingots while all my characters are homeless potion addicts lol. Time to put these ingots to good use now.

I was wondering if you'd forgotten about the game Bill, since we hadn't heard a peep since the first part of the review a month ago. I'm the same - I've been spending tons of time enjoying all the different game systems, so I've barely broken level 30 despite the large number of hours I've put in. I love non-combat systems, and this game has plenty of them to keep me engaged.

It's almost as if Bill Murphy is in my head.  I am willing to bet there are features in this game that haven't even been discovered yet. Really nice article highlighting the depth of the game. I engage in every facet of BDO so it shouldn't be surprising that the hardest part of playing the game for me is trying to decide what I should be doing from one moment to the next.

This sounds like me lol. So many people grinding to be the best while I'm just enjoying exploring the world and learning everything the game offers. I wish more MMO's would offer this kind of choice

Do you plan on doing any actual multiplayer or community gaming with your play time? Is there even such a playstyle in this game? Reading the R.I.P. so far I haven't seen anything game play wise that even indicates this is a multiplayer game, much less an MMO. In fact, I've been reading many previews/reviews and aside from some end game pvp, it really sounds like everyone blogging about this game have only played solo.

I also just hit level 24 by cooking so I can beer up my workers.

For those who want it to be, this can be a grind to high level PVP game. Most of the bloggers you must have run into are probably like William, who delve into more aspects than just the end game. I myself am level 20 after a week or so and constantly get sidetracked by the non-combat aspects of the game. A person can level just by fishing and whatnot if you really want to but it's certainly slow.

Ok. So are you saying there is no meaningful reason to play with others outside of end game pvp? I recognize the game has other things to do besides pvp. My question was, are any of those things multiplayer friendly? Because the activities I've read about have all been solo. In your 20 levels have you grouped with, or had any meaningful interaction with, other players?

Forgive me. It being April 1st and all, I can't tell if I'm being trolled or not. :P I'm not trying to be a smart ass or anything. I'm genuinely curious.

It kind of is a single player game. One of my good friends I played archeage with was hoping this would be the successor as far as community housing. Alas, it was not to be. But boy oh boy is this game so much better in every other way.

Thank you for being a straight shooter :) Little disappointed. Was hoping it wasn't going to be another solo-centric MMO.

It can be if you want it to be,  Load up a boat with friends and go unlock the islands or fish.  Take a group of friends and go "hunt" the giant bat.  Or just go it alone,  it all depends on you really.

My highest is 24 also, and yes Bill I'd give this a 10 also.

I've had fun with Lineage2, fun with Lotro and Darkfall, but this is my favourite game since Ultima Online.

Playing: Darkfall New Dawn (and planning to play Fallout 76)
Favourite games have included: UO, Lineage2, Darkfall, Lotro, Baldur's Gate, SSX, FF7 and yes the original Wizardry on an Apple IIe

My activities are all over the place. I've dabbled in pretty much each life skill, and I've made ships and wagons, made myself a massive trade network... no shortage of things to do indeed! :D

On topic: Great article Bill! I didn't know about the housing unlocking new stuff like that!

The more I look at this game the more I like it. Just two problems
    1) PvP focus at the level cap. PvP in general is a turn off for me.
    2) It's a fantasy setting. I'm so sick of fantasy games.

The adventure level of this game is astonishing to be sure. I just got my main to 30 but have spent a lot of time doing the life skills. It is so much fun to go exploring and discovering new harvesting nodes. I have not yet built a boat or fished much. This is definitely a game that offers something new each day.
Really enjoyed the article and the tip about the housing point system, thank you!

It is and it isn't. PVP wise, you're going to want groups, especially when sieges are implemented. PVE-wise, group hunting is faster, more rewarding, and the world's big raid bosses really do require groups. Your day-to-day roaming and crafting, and questing is solo - but there's a lot of group-centric content. Just don't expect dungeons, minus the sort of open world locations that require groups to clear.

Yes there are a lot of things you can do solo, but there are a lot of thing that need to be done as a group. Like guild quest, for the guild to gain ranking and to make money the guildies have too work together to complete different quest, from killing 2500 of something to cutting down trees and such. Sure you dont have to do them, but the guild master will kick you if you dont, wnich means you will lose buffs and your guild pay. Also there are bosses that you can do daily but you have to group up with peeps to do them and so on. So to say this is just a signal player game is not correct, its really a hy-bread with the aspect of both.
