This game is an asian grinder - GOOD! Finally a game where I can do something as opposed to running around in a relay race to do 30 seconds of something only to run around again.
It is P2W - I don't see it that way. If it was I could open my wallet and have +15 everything right now.
It is RNG - Some RNG is fine though it does have a lot. I can deal. No lost sleep here.
Combat SUCKS - Combat is awesome though I wish blocking was more like Tera
It has no ENDGAME - Only pvp - sieges coming soon and a whole host of summoned bosses. I don't really care about the boat making, horse and pet breeding and crafting.
Come BACK - come back? I'm staying. Until Pantheon releases and I see what that actually entails this is it for me. Not going to any other mmo's. Maybe if Dragon's Dogma Online is released here. but I'm done with mmo hopping.

That was my impression too.
My SWTOR referral link for those wanting to give the game a try. (Newbies get a welcome package while returning players get a few account upgrades to help with their preferred status.)
Nope. I've even already got rid of the game becouse i couldn't stand facerolling easy pve grind.
Have fun running all over the place, shooting at oh so exciting mobs with a gazillion health for 0.00001% xp per mob instead! Or whatever else passes for "challenge" to you people.

I get a feeling all the "facerolling" crowd never did trolls at level 40 when you get sent there by the black spirit. Those who actually play the game and got to level 40 that is. There are also lots who post in this forum who haven't played it at all and are just parroting what they've heard someone else say as well as some who thought the first 20 levels is the game.
Trolls are just one example. There's plenty of challenge to be had IF you don't follow the 1-50 in 16 hour guides that all send you to the easiest to kill mobs for max XP.

I'm was being totally sarcastic
MMORPGs have always been about virtual worlds for me. This game has an awesome World and the Road Map for the future actually excites me.
The developers actually seem interested in catering to our interests within reason. Lets steer them on the right course.
Overall the game Black Desert reminds of the most is UO. I see it as a UO 2016
How I wish Zenimax would have followed this type of virtual/open world design with ESO

As much as I enjoy ESO the way it is, I have to agree.
A marriage of the better ESO and BDO elements would be something to behold.

I'll probably buy a gear set for my blader when it releases (for the bonuses) and a couple pets if those can't be swapped between characters. That's it though.

Aside from that, I can't think of any other recent MMORPG that actually offered any kind of combat challenge. They're all easy when you adjust to them. If individual mobs are a bit harder, then you just engage on them 1v1. If they are easier, then you tackle more than one at a time. It's all in tactics and adjustments. Heck, because I am a completionist, most MMORPGs I play its not long before I am out-leveling content. After a while, all quests become gray to me and offer no challenge. And most of them don't allow a XP toggle off option so you have no choice but to out level content.
BDO combat has actually been quite challenging and fun to me. I suppose its because in BDO, I am for once, not out leveling content. And that's a tribute to it's game play. Because it's not a hub to hub theme park, I have the option to pick and choose where I go and how I do my quests and, by doing so, avoid out-leveling content and keeping the game challenging.
I pay no mind to the complaints lodged at BDO. I would if they had any merit, but I don't because I know, from playing the game, that they are baseless claims. BDO is what you make it. All it takes an open mind, the ability to adjust on the fly, and a little imagination. Players possessive of these qualities are enjoying the game, those who lack them, are not. All we can do is feel sorry for them because while we finally found that game we can enjoy immensely, they are still looking for theirs.
1pet. Because like most people here, I am too lazy to press R. Because seriously pets are not actually needed, but we like to make stupid excuses to justify things. Like someone being a douche and saying I need max/time farming XD
Anyway got 500dollar in Wow so BDO doesn't seem expensive yet. (4 years x 12 months x 10 dollar sub = 480)
Well thats me and my horse in our costumes, plus 2 pets (had 1 form the £40 starter pack) spent the remaining points on completing my furniture set, so including the game im down about £150 but whats a day or twos work for many many many hours of gameplay i enjoy Currently upto 14d1h50m in game time and i joined game on 15th of last month.
The more they get away with now, the more they will try to get away with in the future. Just go back 3 years and look at the difference between the MMORPG genre and how it is now, then go back another 3 years.
Its only going to keep escalating, they are going to milk more and more from you as long as they are supported and they are going to continue to increase the amount they charge and what they charge for.
so you prefer to use the cash shop while paying a sub? gotcha...
Learn to read. 6 years ago no MMORPG that you had to buy charged you for things like pack space. P2W was reserved for F2P games and only F2P games locked down basic content to be unlocked via store purchases. The only sub games that had a shop only sold vanity items like mounts with no stats or minions that followed you around doing nothing.
3 Years ago it changed, B2P games like GW2 vastly expanded their shops and recently B2P games like ESO held back updates during their sub days to load up on DLC you had to pay for after dropping the sub.
BDO has basically made a B2P game with F2P limitations and shop thus taking us one step further to the extreme.
If the game is good, people will pay a sub to play it, thus insuring an income and future development. If the game isnt good, its just a cash grab.
And yes, people will still pay. While WoW may have dropped down under 5 million subs, FFXIV topped 4 million proving that a good sub MMORPG will have support.

280E worth of stuff + 50E Conqueror version. Inventory space and weight, costume, horse costume, 6 pets to get to T3. Most I've ever spent in other games? D3 - 100E over 3 years but that is because I made 500E of it . This game is fantastic to say the least. I feel like it's a 150E game at least.
Yes. I've purchased quite a bit for my main and two alts. I have no problem with it. This is how I look at it. I want the game to succeed. I enjoy the game. It's not the usual monthly 15 dollar fee, so I have roughly 180 dollars a year allocated to the game. I'll probably spend more than that.
I know it's a bit of work for the artists and designers to create costumes and product, so in some cases you're buying their artwork. I always wonder what the artist thinks after toiling for months on a costume design, only to hear outrageous comments about its price. Would someone spend this money on a miniature for their tabletop game or a piece of art for their wall?
Nothing is for free. That is the rule in life. People have a hard time grasping that. Prices too high? Not for me.
I only wish in game stuff was more varied and that their was a monthly fee to allow that. I think if you want something good, you have to pay for it. I'm willing to pay because I want something good. End of story.
Havent even bought the game yet. I might if they make it a little more appealing. I know there is a rabid fan base for it but ot buying into the hype
When they stop letting people stay online AFK 24/7 and have a less PvP focused approach I might try it. But Like I said before I suspect the game will have run its course and be fairly empty by then.
this is a thread intended for the discussion of money spent by players of the game. No one gives a single F about why you aren't buying the game.
I haven't bought much for myself but my gf has spent a ton. We're like the Princess and the Pauper lol. But I'm good with it because whereas I am able to manage my inventory and storage, and basically do without, she's has a real problem with those limits. Plus she has pets and outfits and all sorts of stuff which is cool by me because it makes her happy and I want her to have a good time.
I know a few people like that in game. xD
It's also amusing to see people quickly jumping on those new store releases. There were already a bunch of female characters running around in the Kibelius outfit just moments after that store update went live.
The devs are definitely making some good money from their cash shop.
Black Desert is a Korean B2P + P2W grindfest without endgame that just looks pretty. Why in hell would anyone bother with this game is beyond me, but each one's free to spend their "hard earned" cash as they wish.
In what way are you contributing to the discussion topic of this thread?
Just wait until the initial cash infusion runs out, the cash shop will grow exponentially then. The other versions of this game are all pay-to-win. It is going to be interesting watching the RNG items in the cash shop grow. Daum loves that kind of monetization.
Glad some of you are getting enjoyment from playing it, but there is no long term gameplay here, you will always be behind the curve with the economic model they are using. At least with a sub model you know what you are spending, with a RNG model you have no idea.
If I cared at all about keeping up with the Jones', I'd see your point. But I don't. And you don't play the game. So I can't help but wonder why you think your opinion is relevant to the topic at hand.

That is what I call considerable value! And why not look badass while you're at it?
The overwhelming theme of replies to this thread seems to be that we appreciate the value of the initial cost so much that we are HAPPY to spend more.
Keyword being happy. It's not that we feel that we need to. It's that we want to and are happy to do so.
So many responses about purchases of convenience or cosmetics that were made without regret. Not a single actual player made any claims of NEEDING to purchase to compete or maintain. IMO, one of the best financial models to-date. That's not to say I'm not skeptical of what could change, never forget rumbling saplings. But in its current state, BDO is best value in genre bar none.
