Yes but you see (Planet Side 1) Is the only good game (Planet Side 2 is nothing more than a re-make of Americas Army) Bad Game - Play, and Capture the Flag / Hold It gets boring and boring...

Planetside 1 was way better, and Day- Break Games as far as SOE goes is a big Failure in my eyes EQ2 that can't even be optimized on todays computers, shitty graphics in every game except for maybe H1Z1, but even then shitty game given players have no idea where they are and have to rely on 3rd party information its boring as hell...

Over- All I would rather work for (Blizzard) than I would (Sony or Day Break) if I had the field of experience and the job to do such...

Personally I would rather play PS1 than PS2 for that reason over both games and its sad that Planet Side 2 didn't keep the features similar to Ps1, but have better character models and customizations for the year PS2 was developed in its god awful, not to mention performance even in the lowest of graphics is awful, the code is awful itself that is why it runs poorly unless running a better computer, but hey I can go into BF4, or other games and play max graphics better stuff no problem...

Maybe they will finally sell the EQ franchise to a dev studio that will do something with it worthy of the name.

PS1 was IMO far better than PS2.

    I spent years playing PS1 - spent about 15 hours playing PS2.

But I understand that old games sometimes dwindle to the point where it just makes no sense to keep them around anymore.

Still PS1 - amazing game, way ahead of its time.

I completely agree.. I got my start way back in the day on Johari in Planetside 1's hey day.  Cannot begin to tell you the amount of fun I had in the first two years.

Between PS1 and WOW I was in MMORPG heaven back in the day.
I was a Vanu on Markov.

While I'd actually echo the sentiment that I feel Planetside was a better title than it's sequel, I do also feel it was never put in a position where it was gonna be able to live up to the extent of it's potential. It was a game made ahead of it's time on hardware that could barely handle the developer's ambitions.

EDIT: Or, semantically, couldn't handle their ambitions considering just how much of the original Planetside for culled back in order to make the game run. Like it actually had AI and fauna in the game in it's alpha state, but it was just too much for the servers and client to handle.

Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if the company went belly up. I would be updating my resume if I worked there. They killed any and all customer good will with the cancellation of EQnext and subsequent launch of Landmark.

And the shutdowns start.. Anyone that did not see this coming must have turned a blind eye. The little fish will go first then next will be the bigger IP's and titles.

I really... really hope you were kidding.

It would suck if they killed off EQ and EQ2 as well. I have a bad feeling aout this.

They are also shutting down their card game. I just got an email saying Legends of Norrath is closing.
edit -- oh you added that, didnt see it.
This is actually a MUCH bigger deal as Legends of Norrath is directly connected with EQ and EQ2 and people have spent hundreds-thousands of dollars in that game which is directly connected to receiving items in said games, this is actually terrible news as I still have many unclaimed items and many claims which I have been waiting to use.

Not even sure if I will bother claiming them cause if LoN is closing then EQ and EQ2 are soon to follow cause there is no reason at all to close it down as it is directly connected, this is pure nonsense, i'm pissed.

Well, to be honest, it was a stupid card game. People just bought packs for the ingame loot, not to actually play the card game.

So if game population becomes too low, no one buying the card packs anymore, then it becomes to costly to maintain.
    Simple Maths.

Well there is nonsense here but it is yours not DBGs. LoN has been on life support for a few years now. EQ and EQ2 are unlikely to follow, at least for the next twelve months. There is no direct connection to EQ2 or EQ you even have to launch the LoN client on its own now, it has been this way for some time.

If you have 'loot cards'  in LoN redeem them and send them to EQ or EQ2, once there they will remain in your claim window until you claim them. They won't go away when LoN closes down unless you haven't sent them to a game.

LoN was just the first kind of so called Casino Lock boxes introduced into MMO's.
It was just a lockbox scheme disguised in a poorly designed digital card game!

I honestly didn't know a single person ingame who actually played the actual card game itself!

Everyone I knew, only bought / redeem card packs for the EQ/EQ2 loot! That's it!  As the loot contained some cool housing items, cloaks and Mounts.

I myself never ever bought a single card pack! I just redeemed my free 5 packs every month in hope to get Lucky on some loot. That's it!

    everquest had a card game???

guess its from 2007, and it were quite good really, but atleast I got turned off by too many new cards added all the time. No time to play EQ2 when had to spend so much time playing legends of norrath.

but seemed very few cared to even learn how to play it.

Actually the casino/lockbox thing was to entice players to open the LoN game in the hope of getting some LoN players, it never worked. I did meet some people who played LoN, but I was always surprised (shocked really) when I did.

This is sad if they also shut down Everquest. Truly sad. I'm thinking back to all the memories . I am glad I left Everquest 2 a few months back as if they also shut that down and if I was still playing it would have been very hard to let go. I would be very upset but this does look like the beginning of the end.

    So sad :(

Planetside 1 is probably my favorite game of all, but it has been empty for a while.

    I miss Markov :(

Those games were quite old and were not really pulling much weight to be considered for a continuous running, sooner or later they had to do it. I don't like they-break-games as much as you guys but can't say negative about this move.

Either of those games is more likely to be sold off than shut down, though i suspect they are the few remaining profitable games DBG has.

Played PS2 quite a bit over the last few years, and had no idea the original Planetside was even still running. Probably a good idea to shut 'er down.

Well, with PS2's new structure / base building mechanics they added, it kind of replaces any need for PS1 now.

Ah someone that has actually played PS2 chimes in. I agree, with the latest updates there really wasn't a need for PS1 any more and as others have said, PS1 was well beyond it's prime.

What I do not understand is why all the hate for Daybreak? At least they are people with a vested interest in these games, had it been sold to someone else I am betting the first few weeks would have been shedding dead weight like PS1 which by all accounts has been in the hole for years.

Daybreak isn't the multi-interest industry that Sony is and they have to balance the check book, where Sony could take a loss in area's and make it up elsewhere. It seems like some people in here feel like they are in competition with them or something.

Anyway, RIP PS, it was fun!

The game is 13 years old, its had its day. Its a smart business move in my opinion.
And was shut down once already. Short memories around here.
