Relax, I'm sure you will have no problem finding lots of entertaining things to do whether you are an early backer or not.

People really need to stop worrying about supposed advantages other players get from cash shop purchases and preorders and learn to play their own game.

Some would say you will have a better time since you A: Have less invested in the game, and B: get to earn your wings so to speak.. this seems to be important to some.

Me... I´l say it will come down to how they price the ships. But i fear it will be a decent grind and if you do not like that... You might find your self regretting not pledging.

But if i can be so bold as to make a personal suggestion... Don´t bother pledging unless you see something you just HAVE to have the second it is available.

This have been a good conversation

Is this relative to other players?

Being an early backer or not is not much to worry about. There's no concrete specific bonus or advantages that are only for early backers before the game releases, side of playing the game through its alpha/beta.

So you should buy SC before release if you feel that what's available justifies you buying the game to play it, side of that feel free to wait for release and then see.

Except for owning ships that you then don't have to grind for in game to buy. Yes yes you can buy the ships with in game money when the game launches but seeing as there is no concrete info as to how much they will cost or how long it will take to grind then it could be a very clear advantage for backers

Don't let Cortex flip you out, this game isn't even technically an MMO.  Just wait until its done if you dont want to pledge youll be fine.

Overall at game release with the ability to buy in-game currency with real cash i wouldn't see the advantage for backers as you would end up able to buy the ship in-game by putting money on currency after release anyway.

So instead of buying ships with real money you'll just buy fake money with real money to buy fake ships.....totally makes it better lol

Dude your statement was that early backers had one advantage because they could buy the ships with cash before the release vs who buys after having to grind in-game for them, what is not true as the currency purchases can have a similar outcome.

Stop worrying and accept that there is no more level playing field in MMOs? Never!
There never was a level playing field. Someone has always had more playing time, early beta access, friends in the company, hacks, macros, guildmates who will powerlevel them or yes, even cash shop advantages over you.

The real measure of your "skill" is how well you overcome any real or imagined advantages someone else has over you.

Or....you can just give up and say F-it.

    Me, I keep trying. ;)

Larger ships will need crews,  I've seen people asking if anyone wants to be part of the crew.  You could probably do stuff like that especially if you join a guild which have events all the time.

I'm not sure if they changed this but from my understanding you can just walk on to someones $2k ship and just take off with it if your savvy enough?

His ship would also get destroyed by someone who got that same 500$ ship by grinding for it in-game. Same outcome!

Also you're completely ignoring the mechanic of how this works, from insurance to actual legal PvP or not. If someone just feels like bringing his 500$ ship and rek you for no reason, you'll get your ship back and the person who actually destroyed you would end up tagged as Criminal, or the game just puts a paid bounty on it. It's called gameplay with consequences.

We've been informed multiple times by someone who trumps your zealousness with longevity that your wallet can only hold x amount of whatever the purchased currency is; where x is far less than the cost of a ship. Has this changed long term or only long enough to fit your narrative?

    Solve for x.

Yeah yeah it's known about limitations towards it, but the point is that it will still directly influence your ability to skip the otherwise grind you would have to do to reach the same goal. So in here last info is 25K per day, if ship is 100K then 4 days, the outcome will be the same as the limits will be time barriers towards doing it all at once.

It will be interesting to see how many people have multiple accounts.

Yes. You can get everything in game with in game money that the backers/pledgers got.

They may have "Lifetime Insurance", but Insurance will be such a minor in-game-money sink that there will not be a significant difference. And the early backers with LTI only get a basic hull from insurance like everyone else, not any advanced modules.

When the game has launched, grab the retail version and ....

    Have fun

If it's NOT possible to play SC "from scratch" at launch, I won't be playing SC !

It will also seriously affect CIG's revenue, because if new players feel they "don't stand a chance", the amount of new players lasting more than a week will remain small. And low player numbers mean fewer potential cash shop sales...
  • ShodanasShodanas Member RarePosts: 1,933
They assure us that they will keep the play filed as even as possible.

My personal experience is that in such games the field is never even for everyone. No lifers playing 12+ hours per day will always have an advantage over players with limited time at their disposal.

This is just how things are.

Yeah and according to the fans they aren't selling ships post launch. So what is it? Can you buy ships after launch or is my statement about buying ships now to get an advantage true?
  • ErillionErillion Member EpicPosts: 10,317
Starter ships can be bought after launch day. Currently thats the Aurora and the Mustang.

They will be selling in-game currency post launch. Or at least that is the current plan. So you will be able to spend real life money to get ships (or any other items).

---> According to current knowledge you will NOT be able to buy anything else than a starter ship (currently Mustang or Aurora) with real-world money ( or real world money converted to in-game money). Because THAT converted currency is in a special wallet of limited size. Separate from your in game money wallet. Big enough to buy ship skins, basic ship modules or tune-up kits. But too small to buy a ship.

--> And the conversion rate 1$ = 1000 UEC is a joke. Its a much better idea to spend a few minutes doing a mission and getting 3000 UEC for a mission (yesterdays example).

    --> Have fun

    I'm curious of that statement.

If they are "starter ships" that means they are acquired close to the "start" of the game so what is the financial incentive of buying something your going to be "given for free" anyway early in the game?
