Obviously PvP will be in - but the real thing is twitch broadcaster led events with achievements and rewards - to me this is a lot more telling what kind of "sandbox" they are going for - most likely a Rust/DayZ PvP event driven game - not so much a Sandbox.
I think people hear Sandbox - and they are thinking of SWG type sandbox - I don't think this will that kind of game at all.
I would be surprised if there were only PvP areas; I would expect PvE areas as well. The "Band together ..." sentence has a full stop after it.
As for broadcaster-led events who will "create" the events. (From a story point of view).
There are two big costs floating around. Paying GMs has always been one which is why live events have never really been that big a feature in games. Having broadcasters lead the events - with them earning revenue "as now" lets say fixes that.
The other major bugbear has been content creation; the inability to make it fast enough.
In the Niven & Barnes Dream Park novels GMs designs the events and manage them. And earns revenue accordingly. Dream Park can then use the event / content on a regular day to day basis. Could this be the model they are aiming for?
Would Twitch broadcasters be expected to designs "a dungeon" or "battle" or whatever. One of the triumphs of D&D is that it allowed players to create the content. There could easily be a format / guideline / set of tools that could be used which Amazon turn into code / clean up. The broadcaster would then "lead" the event; maybe more than once and potentially the content could be automated and added to the game.
Like I said before all their games are going to be mobile based, that is where they think the largest market is. So anyone thinking they will be making a sandbox MMO is really dreaming.
That is why I would not get excited about this, at least at this point, there is not a good mobile game out there and probably won't be for some time, the screens are just too small.
None of the three announced titles are mobile based, Oz. And in fact, New World IS a sandbox MMO.
Everyone hears "sandbox" and that's all the focus on.
Sandbox doesn't mean that the game is going to be a deep comple MMORPG - it could be ANYTHING - heck Rust could be considered a Sandbox.
IMO - the rest is a lot more important and should deserve focus:

exactly - to me this sounds like a fantasy sort of rust or ark or h1z1 and not like another ultima online
think about it - which games are the most popular ones right now? moba's, hero shooter's, battle royal type of sandboxes....which are the most streamed games? moba's, hero shooter's and battle royal games... there you go

Well it doesn't say RPG anywhere, so it's safer to assume it's an sandbox survival game ala h1z1, rust etc. rather than a sanbox MMORPG like UO / AC / DF and the likes.
The only thing I know for certain is that Amazon has come out swinging.
Tying Twitch to Amazon Prime is huge, like really huge. Amazon is carving out a new market, it'll bring in new and old gamers alike I think.
Pretty exciting honestly, we haven't had a contender like this enter the field in a long long time.
its really rather "small fodder" outside the us where the services are so substantially limited you get that no one gives a shit...at least in europe, i dont know about asia...same as with netflix - pirating, ehm sorry, "sharing" movies is also super simple, convenient and in a lot of countries in europe not really punished
So they´ve just announced in dutch media that their streaming services wil be available pretty soon in the Netherlands. It´s not that big of a stretch to assume they will be introducing services as Amazon Prime in other countries. Also Netflix is pretty big in the Netherlands.

Please quit posting your theories without reading the articles.
Also Order and Chaos 1 and 2 weren't half bad for mobile MMO's. They scratched an itch for me when I was on the road for work.
Happily playing Vanilla and BC WoW, again, since September 2016.

Incorrect to say it is only big in the US. Already huge in some European countries were the highr population densities make delivery to multiple addresses easier.
Amazon have been trying to offer an alternative to Steam for ages, they discount games just so they at least have a range of DVD titles that compete with steam.
The next step seems to be the creation of a gaming software platform, similar to Uplay etc, but you can make and sell your own games.

Pure speculation on my part of course.

Secondly, I wonder if the future of Twitch streamers is going to mean people are going to get a following for essentially being good Dungeon Masters.

First of I am surprised that Amazon tied the announcement more to the Amazon brand than the Twitch brand.

Not surprised they used the Amazon name - they have a very simple and solid brand strategy.
As for your second point that was what I was wondering as well. Hence my Dream Park reference. Essentially an "old school" approach.

Potentially as game changing as Steam was.
