I have virtually no interest in PvP, but am somewhat interested in playing as a full-time crafter. It will be interesting to hear how that aspect of the game is working out.
Yeah there must be more to the game than just killing each other over and over again. Otherwise it’s not going to have any longevity as an MMORPG but just become a Battlefield game

Which for some fans of DAOC, that truly is all they care to do.

i could careless about PvP i backed it only for the crafting and maybe some healing once in a blue.same reason i backed crowfall,i mean when you look at the alternatives for crafting in mmo's not like i had many deep options available lol
Finally, this game is soooooo going to be worth the wait!!!
I almost always have a VERY good vibe as to what to expect from a game and i can't remeber the last time i was way off on my hunch.
My biggest two hunches FFXI was way better than i thought.BDO was far worse than i thought. Most all other mmorpg's were pretty much exactly what i expected.
I am not afraid to come back and say i was wrong the game is way better or mildly better than i imagined.I am also not a person who would lie just to protect my hunch/score i really don't care what others think of my ratings to worry about being wrong or not.
Ok aside from bullshit scoring like we see from gaming websites that profit from games,i have a way more realistic scoring set of standards based on what developers can do with some effort.
My hunch, this game will not be any better than a 3/10.
w/o getting into specifics an easy breakdown.
10 does not and never will exist
9 is an absolutely amazing build but of course always room to improve
8 a really good game not much to complain about.
7 pretty darn good, lacking in areas like perhaps graphics or size but overall a decent design.
6 Decent, playable bu not likely holding any longevity
5 might load it up and look, might play up to a month, then likely quit.
4 Not good enough to warrant ,close but lacks too much in too many areas.
3 Barely worth my time to take a look, but i will and then likely delete it the same day
2 Garbage,i will look at maybe a few videos, then move on.
1 Not worth anyone's time, should be cancelled and lay offs soon after a Beta.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
1) The videos I have seen were mainly just seeing how many could be in a place, I never really saw any real features shown besides the CUBE, what has been developed?
- over 1.5k players on the same battlefield @60fps (tested with old hardware)
- server side physics
- players create their own abilities out of components
- magic effects will be treated as objects within the game which means they can interact with other objects (e.g. spells)
- CSE (the studio) has created a server-tech somewhat similar to SpatialOS
- etc.
PvE at all or strictly PvP??
CU has no PvE progression or questing, but PvE for gathering raw materials exists. Also they've planned a very hard non-instanced dungeon, The Depths, where high-tier resources can be found.
And this is what makes me partly sad about this game. The mix of pve/pvp in Dark Age of Cameltoe is what made that game awesome. But I am still looking forward to this game as well.
Not so much. PVE in DAoC was a bit too much. It was what destroyed the game in the end with long quest chains granting far too powerful pvp skills. CU was designed as a pvp game, they realized that PVE just delayed people from enjoying the PVP. The PVE in DAoC was boring, the PVP was what was awesome about the game. So they skipped the boring part.

There is more to do, such as resource gathering, crafting, and such, but all these other things are tied to the PvP, giving both the reason and means for conflict.
That one can be a full-time crafter, essentially providing support for the conflict while seldom being directly involved. is rather clever I think. It broadens their appeal a bit, to those who like the idea of a sandbox game, but not so much the PvP they typically require.
Yeah there must be more to the game than just killing each other over and over again. Otherwise it’s not going to have any longevity as an MMORPG but just become a Battlefield game
Yes, there is a lot more, but on the other hand CU isn't a "life-simulator" and thus wont have a great variety of life-skills.

C'mon Wiz, you made it way too hard here, you know your actual scale is more like this:
9) FFXI - the ultimate game, nothing else has or ever will compare to this game. 6) EQ2 - tolerated, because there's nothing else bearable to play 0) Every other game out there ever made or in development to date, cash grabbing, insufferable crap never to be worth being played. -1) Every indie title in progress that has been crowd funded, total crap without any potential other than to line the pockets of the Devs. -5) All PVP centric titles

I am honestly shocked. I am a highest tier alpha backer and can say with certainty the Alpha builds did not resemble a functional game. Yes there were characters and skills etc. but no NPC cities, quests, or really sense of purpose or fleshed out game to play. Its possible they had been working on stuff but not fully implenting but I really hope thats the case so that the beta doesn’t disappoint.
This is good news! Beta 1 is further away than I thought, I honestly thought we'd see Beta 1 in March.
I haven't backed the game yet, I'm still of the opinion that you don't pay money until there is something to play, but I'm sure I'll get involved once I see the schedules for beta 1 and beyond. This is the only MMO on the horizon that I'm excited about so I really hope it delivers.
Currently Playing: WAR RoR - Spitt rr7X Black Orc | Scrotling rr6X Squig Herder | Scabrous rr4X Shaman
To be honest, RvR or WvW combat, if done well, is very thrilling and dynamic.
I know as a GW2 player, most of my game time was involved in gearing up for WvW. So, I can see the same thing happen here.
Can't wait to hear the reviews once the Beta comes out.

I am the same way, I won't buy a game till there is a game. Just how I roll.
I have been looking at Crowfall and Dead Matter.

I was a little surprised they'd be announcing a beta so early too based on the IT emails I still get, but with the funding and the deadline being several months away I could see an early, rough beta being feasible.

My guess is the beta "cycle" will take much longer than most expect (as with everything else in this project) and it would not surprise me at all to see the "full" release in the 1st half of 2020.

I don't think there are quests. That was the whole point right?

I tried that, but I just don't get the same feeling of enjoyment from the match-based games that I used to. The persistence of a good MMO is something that keeps calling my name, even when there don't seem to be any worth dumping the time into.
No disrespect to CU. In fact lots of respect: this is one of the few crowfunded MMOS that IMO, is doing it right. But I'm not likely to buy before the beta (unless I'm really, really bored with ESO by July lol.) I just don't buy any game more than a week or two before release these days at the earliest - usually a week or two after.
So I'm looking forward to seeing the streams and hearing what you early adopters have to say. Good news that there's finally a date though.

also.. have you tried BDO, beyond the UI, being like swallowing broken glass, it's a really involved game.

Well it is beta testing. It isn't the point where anyone samples the game play to decide if they like it. This beta will be ROUGH. Old school. Bare minimum system integration. Minimal viable beta candidate. Do I need to go on more?
It isn't meant for 95% of the player base who may eventually end up playing it at some point.
Someone who tries a game out in early beta in order to review for purchase is someone that shouldn't have fucking been there in the first place. They are a waste of space. Hell, I can test siege right now but don't because I made a promise to myself and CSE that I'd only test when fully committed to it. That will be in Beta and not before.
Until then I don't think a second on it and play other games. It's called patience. Small beans for CU but check out Classic Wow forums. People are losing their shit 3 months after announcement thinking Blizzard should have personally visited their home asking for feedback by now. NO PATIENCE. It's a dead concept on the internet.

They obviously added pve in way that disenfranchised a lot of players. On the other hand no pve was a problem and retention was bleeding like a sieve. So the situation isn't as simple as it's often presented is it.
According to BruceYee that's all people wanted to do, repeatedly pvp. But that's not really the case either because DAoC isn't a very popular MMO at all, regardless of the rule set. Even our resident super DAoC fan, @Kyleran, even said he couldn't stick with classic DAoC on the pirate server. So people are talking out one end and saying one thing, but their actions are lining up with their words.
I feel like game developers and some vocal core fans believe there is some silent majority demographic out there that secretly wants a game as they envision it. This is true for most any project, not just this one. However, they apparently don't validate the extent or quality of that demographic and fly along on hopes. That is a key reason why I think so many of these projects (indie or AAA) fail to the surprise of the industry. It's why Epic chased PUBG with their Fortnite BR clone, because that demographic has been solidly identified for them and they know it exists so they scramble to dump out a game that hopefully meets most of their wants and needs.
Hopefully these indie games like CU, Pantheon, Ashes, etc. are looking very hard at what they want to believe is true and comparing that to reality.
How is no pve a problem with the numbers that these survival games are getting? At least CU has a lot more depth than those games.
