I think what SwampDragons is trying to get at is the fact there is so much action without actually any action. I have to agree that I don't see the excitement of hundreds of ships huddled inside of bubbles while firing at each other from stationary positions. Perhaps this is the missing link or void that Star Citizen is trying to fix. It's been stated countless times that the combat approach in Eve Online is akin to Pong arcade.
*cough* Vendetta Online.
It's a non-sharded, quasi-Newtonian MMORPG in space where you are the spaceship but you actually get to fly it and the economy matters, that has been running for longer than Eve. Only... not nearly as many people play it. For whatever reason, it's not as popular (I suspect chaos theory). We don't do the thousands of pilots in a battle thing (yet). Just saying there is a MMORPG that offers the type of gameplay you imply is "missing".
The OP video looks pretty awesome.

But the videos are always kinda meh.
I want to see maneuvers, kinda like in star trek bridge commander, Nexus: The Jupiter Incident.
Or something like the battles in the Star Wars movies.
They are kinda just floating in one spot, shooting at each other.
