The only thing wrong with Bill's review is he thinks it is a MMO because it has a persistent world, he changed to "MMO like", but come on. It is a good multiplayer lobby game and an 8.5 is a score any game should hope for, though I do realise that since the advent of social media we have to rank everything zero or ten.
Funny how I see people always trying to correct someone about what a MMO is as if they are the only ones who know. Funny because MMOs (excluding wow) from early 2000's are never coming back. "MMO-Lites" (Popular term) are what has risen from the ashes of the traditional MMO.
I can break it down further but that's the truth.
Like you said, MMO-lite is a popular term, there are others and they usually refer to games that are not MMORPGs. Where this becomes pertinent is when the likes of Warframe gets included on the same list as ESO and FF in the Best MMOs of 2018 so far. What I do not understand is we seem to agree, you see a difference between what you call traditional MMOs and what we have now.
Precisely agreeing on a definition is a rabbit hole we have gone down on this site many times before. But do we need to worry about definitions when games which are glaringly not MMORPG's or even MMOS are called such? Warframe is a good co-op multiplayer, why don't we call it that?
Warframe really appeals to a certain niche...The game is interesting and all, but has one major flaw: most of us arent needed...The players are just too strong. I watched players wipe out entire instances in less than a minute or two all by themselves.

so? did you stop playing mmos because the major guild cleaned the content? games are not about what others achieved, but what you could do meanwhile.
games are all about you. you like em? you play em.
i have seen people run thought skyrim in 45 mins, did it stop ME from playing normal? not at all.

I’m looking forward to trying this again on Nintendo Switch. Never really got into it before, but it’s been a long time and I’m looking for something MMO to play handheld on my Switch.
Good luck, the switch does not have the hp to run this game.

So the system that can run Breath of the Wild can't run Warframe?
LOL Yeah but isn't that their job ? Shouldn't they want to be current in their job no matter the work load. They chose to be a review site of mmo's. Everyone knows that mmo's change over time. Reviews of mmo's are subject to change. So no its a poor excuse about the unrealistic workload they have to do. All reviews of mmo's should at the end say this review is not final because mmo's change over time. And anymore who plays mmo's should know this.
Two points of order:
1) Despite being on the list of best 2018 MMOs, Warframe isn't one no matter how many times people try to claim otherwise.
2. MMORPG.com did re-review Warframe in June of 2018.
My job of correcting other people's errors is done here.
That is a much better review, which I was unaware of. Even so, I do find it strange that grinding is listed as a con in a game which is all about grinding.
Warframe has more in common with Diablo than it does with a third person shooter or MMO, and in that regard, it's the best Diablo style game ever made.
I truly want to know what did you smoke to have said the words "Warframe has more in Diablo than with a 3rd person shooter or MMO".

Yes, I must have been smoking something truly amazing to draw comparisons between two games in which the entire objective is to mow down hordes of mostly weak enemies and mini-bosses with various modifiers in procedurally generated stages in order to earn loot.

Normally, I'd just scoff at your comment and believe you were being unrealistic. However, the last few years have been a famine for new/decent MMOs so... you know what... bring on the re-reviews. There haven't been any new good MMOs for a while so why not take the time to re-review some old stuff?
I believe they actually do re-review any game that has a decent content update. I'm sure not as many re-reviews as some devs/publishers would like, but any game that would have changed a moderate amount gets one. I think that's what people come to this site for. Well, that and to do whatever it is people all over the net do on forums . . . butt heads and circle je . . . I'll stop there.

Actually, Warframe is really light on requirements and the Switch is more powerful then many give it credit for. It runs Doom and Wolfenstein (although with graphical sacrifices), it will have no problem running this.

I've started playing Warframe again recently and I must say I'm more confused than usual. Lots of things have changed, aerial combat and planetary open spaces being the biggest so far. The progression and the upgrades still confuse me. At least I've became familiar with the movement.
Warframe was not an mmorpg prior to the addition of open roaming spaces in certain systems. Are those enough to justify the classification? Imo, not yet. It's a side activity. Had it been the other way round (open persistent world with instanced missions) then yes.
Ultimately classification matters little. Fun matters more and Warframe is indeed a fun game to play.
The most critical thing to understand about Warframe is its not a straight FPS game, its really the only supers-themed FPS I'm aware of. Each of the frames has different superpowers. You zip around, fighting evil while using a HUGE variety of superpowers or weapons. Its true that it can be grindy, but not nearly as much as many other games *looks pointedly at Diablo 3* And while the shortest distance between the stuff you want and playing it is dropping some cash... its not much cash. As others have said, they give out 50% and even 75% off coupons on Warframe cash. I used a 75% off coupon, dropped 10$, and now have more resources than I'll probably ever need. If you like Destiny, or Borderlands 2, or Monster Hunter World, give it a whirl. For free.
Damage 3.0 when? Probably not reinstalling till I no longer have the ability to reach billions of damage. As lord knows we'll never have an enemy with trillions of hp to survive the billions of damage players can deal.
