Britain's Prince Harry has come out publicly calling for a ban of Fortnite. The comments were made at a West London YMCA where he further elaborated that games like Fortnite are designed to addict youngsters. "The game shouldn't be allowed. Where is the benefit of having it in your household?" he said. It's created to addict, an addiction to keep you in front of a computer for as long as possible. It's so irresponsible."

I can't see Prince Harry needing money from Epic.

Seems like Prince Harry has an issue with video games in general, since playing a video game necessitates being in front of a computer/console.  I agree that some folks become addicted and play so much it's detrimental to their well-being, but that kind of addiction can happen almost anywhere.

I'm sure folks with family members who are addicted to alcohol would love to see the family member addicted merely to playing video games, instead.  As far as addictions go, video games aren't nearly the worst way you can go.

or that looks like since his parents/wife ban him from doing something then he start to be against it, since hey if I can't no one else can, don't remember him saying anything about games before so i'm guessing his wife really have him on her little thumb, with if I remember right the other woman in his family don't like her much

Of course someone who benefits from an archaic monarchy that no longer does anything for its people is trying to ban something. The royal family is nothing but well dressed leeches with to much publicity.

Well, hes not wrong. But thats for every hobby that does not generate a useful skill, and is unhealthy in the sense people become addicted and develop other health problems.

So in a way its really just about addiction in general, that he is against.

And I beleive if it as serious as he believes it is, statistically, then hold parents liable. Force parents to only lets their kids play fornite by paying for the internet, pc, etc to run it. They obviously have a lot of time to be addicted, so give them somthing to do and they learn to value their time better.

Also they will realize the cost of things early on, and if they become a slob whos addicted then they will have to work for minimum wage to play only a few hours of fort nite against most likely a situation against trolls.

    so;

Let parents police the situation, be more anti addiction in general, and offer kids more social programs and job opportunities, and even 'apprenticing'. It will give them some experience and may be they will find through their par time job something they like to do. Many kids go to uni, have student debt, and they dont even know what they really want to do after they graduate.

It just seems like by targeting fortnite its just distracting to an actual situation of addiction , statisically, anyways, if it is such a problem.

Are young britans less talented? less productive? etc

    Then incentive-ise a solution.

By Prince Harry saying this out loud, hes either doing on this purpose for some reason to draw attention. And wants to get the word out there more... or really his freinds dont have actual intellectual conversations if they think targetting Fortnite will solve addiction problems.

For example he could talk about online games having an age rating of 18+. Simple solution. Then parents have to get involved.

History repeats itself. Scotland banned golf in 1457 out of concern that people played it so much they were neglecting their archery skills (needed for defense).

    Damn violent video games!
Making people commit crimes, genocide and all sort of other atrocities...

I wish we could go back in time before video games were invented, so we could all live happy in a harmonious crime free world!

I think Prince Harry's comments might ring a bit too true for people to like & consider whether yay or nay so people attack as a defense for them not doing anything wrong.

I agree his lineage makes it seem odd that he is voicing out about this but that itself doesn't make the messgae right or wrong.

I enjoyed the golf & archery post earlier which was insightful.

We could probablty all, definitely myself, be doing something more productive than playing video games, but we find it easier & it is easy to fall into that rut.

As a a gaming addict, who tries to actually be productive in life, I 100% agree with his sentiment. If he is talking about things made to addict people, then he should also throw in, TV, Facebook, alcohol, and a bunch of other crap. I 100% don't agree with banning Fortnite.

I think England would do better banning an archaic monarchy than a popular video game though.

I don't think banning the monarchy is necessary.  They're merely figureheads at this point- state-sponsored celebrities.  I don't think much in the way of public policy is dictated by anyone in the royal family.

    So everything in moderation?

Instead of blaming parents in UK, we go and blame the developers.

If your child loves playing wall tennis, and it becomes so popular that everyone starts playing it, you're gonna blame Tennis Racket manufacturers for creating an addictive game? Harry is a clueless dumbass who should not be speaking on things he does not know anything about. Classic, "I have influence so whatever I think on a subject should be taken seriously."

    What is "being productive?"

When will archery ever be of use to you? Youre learning a skill that is literally out dated. It's like learning to churn butter in 2019. You're spending time trying to master something of little to no relevance.(Unless you wanted to go professional or for hunting purposes) Not only that, it takes practice, hard work and dedication to master. With video games at least you're engaging in entertainment, and you have fun. Not only that, you're engaging in a medium with other human beings, socializing and developing team work skills.

The take away here is the royal family always serves England, Prince Harry has done more for his country than I would bet half the posters on these forums have done for theirs. I say ban the lazy cowards and leave fortnight alone.

I don't believe any game is to blame. Set limits for your children and enforce them. It is really that simple.

It's not just video games they been trying to ban behaviors and create some kind of superficial society over there.  This is just more fuel to the fire.
