Ultimately my point is that it looks pretty but it is mechanically uninteresting.  Compare the gameplay with any of the games I mentioned and they all blow this out of the water.  There's very little in the way of active mechanics or player skills.  The mod system is a half-assed attempt at it and other than that there's nothing but passives.  So again, an okay third person shooter with nothing to make it interesting to play other than being "hardcore" which it's not even that because death has no sting in this game at all unlike in Dark Souls.

In a trailer that i watched the players character equipped a sword. Does this game let you make melee characters?

Yes, it does. You make an early choice between (basically) a long-range sniper, a tank with melee boosts, and a mid-range support with some healing. HOWEVER, all of their respective skills, mods, weapons, and armor are attainable throughout the early parts of the game, so it's much like Souls' class choice in that it really only dictates starting stats, gear, and a boon. You're not locked into any 1 play style.
I will say it's designed to not be exclusively melee. Or at least even melee-centric toons would still find using their guns on distant foes advantageous.

Another game showing up in the rpg section of steam that clearly isn't an rpg at all and has no rpg elements either.  But I love how people complain the epic store has no genre filters.

We must be looking at different games, I mean the one im playing has Stats, Build options, character creator, Light Branching (get it cuz tree monsters) dialog, and tons of collectibles and abilities to level up and point into. I think its classified quite correctly as an RPG.

Bought it, played a fair bit. Hell yeah, awesome stuff. The combat is insanely tight and challenging. Hellgate 2.0 in a Soulsborne mould with an A.I. director from the L4D series, it is nothing, nothing like a looter shooter and as someone who wanted a new Hellgate with less focus on tons of crappy loot and more focus on good combat and challenging content I am extremely pleased.

'This does not apply just to ED but SC or any other game. What they will get is Rebirth/X4, likely prettier but equally underwhelming and pointless.

It is incredibly difficult to design some meaningfull leg content that would fit a space ship game - simply because it is not a leg game.

It is just huge resource waste....'

Pressing a button to launch a rocket barrage does not constitute mechanical depth. In Remnant ammo conservation, proper dodging and use of cover, melee timing and use of active abilities is much more important than in any of the games you mentioned before where you have a lot of abilities that you basically spam.

Truly my surprise hit of the year. Hard to describe since it takes many things from many games but somehow manages to be its own beast entirely. Combined with incredibly responsive and clever combat makes this a winner despite the rough edges.

Its a damn smart game that doesn’t have an ounce of “fat” so to speak. Every item, weapon and skill matters, great monster design in both looks and skills. I really hope they have something of a roadmap, I can’t wait to see more content and a bit of tweaking to the random level design and scaling difficulty to the number of players.

To the challenged people that think this is a great game, it is Perfect World, they will insert pay-to-win into this game and make you miserable.

Apparently those who have spent the $40 entry fee enjoy it so whats your point? Its not one the f2p titles in PW seems the ones who paid for it like it.

Perfect World haven't put micro transactions into any of their non-online games as far as I know. The games they develop themselves are all cash shop heavy but not the games they only publish. They've just left them alone so far.

True (Torchlight series for instance), besides, Remnant does not have a cash shop, micro transactions, dlc or any of that. It is as “clean” as a game can come, the only thing challenged here are players because of the difficulty and people with outspoken opinions based on lack of actual information.
