I know exactly why they are doing it and if they were transparent about it I'd be sympathetic. I think they would have been better off with reasonably priced content and separate MTX supporter packs. Well that and actually being honest with the players. But they chose the Pay For Power option long ago and then moved into P2W.
You can justify their model all you want. That doesn't mean they were forced to do it that way to keep being profitable. and what you can't justify is how poor they are in terms of transparency.
I can't imagine many people love SSG. What they love is that their games are still running and getting new content.
As for their model, what alternate model would you suggest for them?
It's too late for them to adopt a better model. They dug themselves into this hole and they can't really get out now.
The biggest issue isn't even the overpriced expansions or even that they'd redefined what an expansion is just to get more money from VIPs. It's the reliance on pay for power, sometimes P2W, stuff in the shop. And they clearly have no alternate solution to that.
I'm really not sure how much further they can go in terms of gouging the VIPs though. I guess we'll see of the next 18 months.
What kind of P2W did they put in? Don't tell me.. Bank space?
1) Loot boxes with BiS items soon after they are released with content 2) LI scroll shortcuts - they've admitted the system is a mess, after a VERY long period of complaints. but they refused to actually lay out a fix. We all know why that is. 3) Virtue upgrades that can only be acquired in the store or from someone who uses it
