Character Name Global or Regional?

in New World
Does anyone know if a character name is global unique or regional server unique?  If it's global unique and you want a specific name, then people are going to flood the EU launch to reserve the names only to delete them later when their region opens up.  Does anyone know for sure or have a way of contacting Amazon Games to find out?

    Maybe someone with a Twitter account can ask them, they seem to be responding to questions with a standard "Our current plan is to allow one character per server world per account at release."  Doesn't say much about the name though.

    I thought this was about naming your character ‘Global’ or ‘Regional’ so people would be utterly confused when you were chatting in the matching channels. Silly me.

    I've read lots of folks on Twit & Reddit who swear it is Global... Regional... World Set... and even by Server / World Name.  I have yet to see anyone cite anything except their experiences in Alpha/Beta.  I expect devs to give a definitive answer in the next day or two, since this seems to be the biggest question at hand.

    Those people on social media think it's global because their names was taken in other regions. It's just observer error, the name was indeed taken... By someone else.
    The names are per server cluster.
    The name I used during closed beta was taken on a first server, and available on another one.


    Agreed...

    I had my name on one East Coast, and one West Coast, didn't try to create a second character on a second cluster on the EC until later, and then I didn't get it. Not sure why anyone would think it's global....that's kind of silly.

    I've read that Elvis is alive, hanging on an island with JFK, and I've read that if I just give a Nigerian Prince my bank account number and social security number that he'll gift me with untold millions of dollars, just for helping him move his money over.

    So should you really believe it?  The global story really doesn't pass the smell test.

    I think it's fairly reasonable to believe that the name will locked by server cluster.  So if you are an Arkadia Eta server, your name is locked there. Someone on another Arkadia Eta server is not going to be able to choose the same thing. 

    So yes...in beta, I had the same name in an East Coast Server and a West Coast server, so unless there is a change over the past couple of weeks, it's definitely not global.

    If this is really the biggest question at hand...ummm, yeah...a few too many sheep reading too much into things. (And no, I'm not saying that YOU are, but I doubt anyone who swears it's global, is worth believing. Just my 2 cents though....)

    I'm wondering if the decision to have character names be global is for streaming purposes. I bet all the major streamers got their names reserved already.

    If I want to get my name reserved I just log in as soon as possible on any NA east server and make a character and that will reserve that name  on all NA east servers yes?

    Brenics ~ Just to point out I do believe Chris Roberts is going down as the man who cheated backers and took down crowdfunding for gaming.

    Unless someone in Europe already took it. Names are global not server-based. Weird system but that's how it is.

    If the name you want matters that much to you, log in to a EU server to reserve your name there since EU is first but that's 2 AM Eastern time.

    On behalf of the site thanks for pointing the confusion out, I must admit making such a sweeping/surprise change from beta to launch on naming is unprecedented in a AAA as far as I know. Though as to that poor fellow Elvis, he is gone. :)

    I have a couple names I used the last 10 years or so and they were always "safe" too but last few years they are not anymore and often taken.
