Biggest red flag is what someone just pointed out.. Steven Sharif was involved in a major pyramid scheme business before starting Ashes of Creation. Much like Jeromy Walsh and his scammy business practices prior to start Chronicles of Elyria, I think this game is gonna go down the drain. At least Steven is a cocky, arrogant guy that is super overly confident in the game. Jeromy Walsh on the other hand was always so quiet and reserved with CoE and he barely gave us any information on the game at all.
Sharif: Marketing genius but still a cocky, arrogant douche that probably won't succeed.
Walsh: Scumbag liar that intentionally paid himself and his family well while firing all but 1 employee right before Christmas 2020.
I dont see how some are equating COE to Ashes of Creation. I mean, we've seen way more of AoC in ongoing development, it's completely different.
There's a few other things I'd like to point out.
Yeah the games been in development for nearly half a decade, but games do take time to make. Maybe since I'm not a backer I don't really care as much about when it actually releases. I'm also a little removed from it so I don't see it as much of a failure... maybe aside from the battle Royale apocalypse thing, not sure what the point was in releasing it just to close it.
I guess when you have no expectations you don't get disappointed.
The other thing is, I'm pretty sure the old ladies at the bingo hall are all grumbling about ashes of creation, so OBVIOUSLY some of you probably do sound like them.

Its not a direct comparison. But WHENEVER someone points to a wiki page or a powerpoint as some kind of evidence about what will be in the game... well... by this point we should all know better.

Not to get off track here but JW released everyone on his team in March 2020.
Not fair to compare Steven to Jeremy in any fashion, Ashes clearly exists, some have played it on several occasions, COE never got anywhere near such achievements.
As for his sheer hubris, I imagine his personality is an asset when trying to pull off this extremely challenging endeavor, a true cult of personality.

No way will an open world pvp game be that large or successful
BDO sends you kisses.
(not that I believe what this guy says necessarily, I will believe it when I see it)
Not gonna lie I didn't realize that BDO was all time open world pvp. I loath pvp, I play this game, I am 'soft max level' and I participate in end game activities, I have never killed or been killed. I assumed you had to turn pvp on in order to pvp or it was regulated to a specific zone/area. However I am not in a guild so maybe that is the difference?
Agree x1000 bobbymcswanson. Your thoughts ruffle some feathers I'm sure, but you're 100% right.
Ashes will not be what the carebear (or your game's dead!) crowd wants. Nor will it be what the hardcore full loot pvp crowd wants. It's shunning those two extremes and striking somewhere in the middle.
But yes one side in particular is going to spew hate and rage all the way up to launch, trying to get the game changed to suit them. It's not going to work. The devs are intent on creating a unique and compelling game, to break the groupthink and stagnation that has plagued the genre.
I see potential, but have nothing good to say about game fluff and paid alpha/betas. Kickstarters are all shady. That being said. The game has actually progressed further than I thought it would but over the slowest time period known in gaming history. They have assets that look good. The minigame sucked for combat. And.... I am still not being sold on the players per server because battlegrounds and pvp have not been the focus of successful long term games.
Hey all, I uploaded a new video to help with the background sound. If you guys were having issues hearing the video before, it should be all good now! Sorry about that!
Separately, I do love how inquisitive our community is. I would certainly want to hear some of your questions that you would like answers to, if and when another interview opportunity comes around again. If one comes around again, perhaps I'll put out an open call for the community to participate in a few questions?
Either way, I still love reading everyone's thoughts!
1. Why he set 1 year estimated delivery date for making aaa mmorpg?
2. Why game is still not released (est delivery Dec 2018)
3. Day interpid started making game till now what kind of real progress interpid made? (Asking this because they should already have 100% finished game, so what is it? 10%?)
4. Why release of BR and try to monetize it?
5. If steven said there is no point of buying this game atm, why hes selling jpgs?
6. If steven said he doesnt like hype then why he took official content creators, why he hired pr team? (He took and hired them over 3 years ago when game had 0.01% of content)
7. If game had enough money without kickstarter why he started kickstarter?
8. What kickstarter means to him?
9. What is special about opening kickstarter but when it is finished to open website shop?
10. If money isnt problem as steven said, why bundle alpha/beta keys with cosmetics, why sell anything at all?
11. Steven replaced Jeffrey, Steven what kind of expirience you have as lead game designer?
12. Why do you promote how to say this.... pay to feedback? Reciving ingame feedback from people who paid 500$ and official content creators who got their key for free doing nothing but clickbaiting or should i say "read what dev said, make video/stream saying exact words what dev said"
13. As CEO of company who is trying to make mmorpg, why do you talk trash about archeage and new world?
14. What really happend with original refferal system?
There are more questions but this should be a good start.
If he answers these questions i think next interview is going to popup on every gaming website but we all know he wont answer it or hes going to pick some and say some neutral answers like salesman.
I was visiting this site, and decided to make this thread only to write you a comment.
GET INFORMED before talking, watch some video's about the progress of AOC and then ask stupid questions like the ones on top. Most of them have been already answered by Steven 10 times already, if you have no time to get informed at least don't post dumb things.
One of the answers he gave more them 10 times even in 10 different video's is the kickstarter part, he was trying to see if anyone else besides him has a good feeling about his idea and about his point of view when it comes to an MMORPG with Node system implemented.
Bro ... come on ... your dumb post will put many players under the question mark when it comes to this game and everything that happend till now only because you don't do your reasearch and then create the dumbest post ever.

Answered? Where? In official forum archive section?
Lets talk about progress videos, which kind of gameplay progress can we see? Years and years of "progress" and what we have? 15-20 monsters, mounts, small map, skill upgrade, some quests siege which is very basic just to show something ingame, 3 classes with lvl 10 skills, some npc, swimming, very basic dungeon and climbing. These people are promoting climbing! Cant wait for fans to ask can we play minecraft inside of aoc!
As i said, all of this is very basic, game is still in alpha so with this kind of progress (over 4 years in development) when we can expect game release because steven said he wants to release everything he promised on day 1 and he promised soooo many things. If you answer is going to be it is going to be released when its ready i would said fine, but what about very slow progress of game and his own estimated release date of Dec 2018? People would understand if game is delayed 3-4 months but over 3 years...cmon be realistic!
OMG, you really gonna pick from all questions kickstarter part? Ok...
You said "he was trying to see if anyone else besides him has a good feeling about
his idea and about his point of view when it comes to an MMORPG with
Node system implemented."
Yeaa right! He couldnt make poll or topic on reddit and gaming forums. Start freaking kickstarter to see are "potential" players gonna like one single feature. Are you mental?
Riot games when asked about there MMO during an investor call, "It will cost us 500+ million to make because people will compare the content and lack of content to WoW and FFXIV even if that is unfair as our project will just be getting off the ground."
Stephen, "It's going to be the Largest and most successful MMO."
If Riot, one of, if the not most profitable gaming company in the world is even saying a MMO is going to be time consuming, cost a lot, and they are being humble than maybe you should too. You think it would be the other way around with Riot touting their own horn.

The game has an 8 man grouping scheme. This guy has not learned anything about todays player. Nothing to see here.
One thing they are doing right, DAOC used 8 man's to great effect, it's the right move as presents much more flexibility in group composition and encounter design.

(not that I believe what this guy says necessarily, I will believe it when I see it)
edit: cut off posts in the middle
It is easy enough to prove your assertion.
Simply point out a few of the wildly successful titles that have significant vertical progression in an open world full PVP game.
Already did. BDO.
PVP starts at level 40?
So the imbalance introduced by vertical progression is alleviated by simply not allowing a person to PVP until they’re 2/3 of the way to level cap.
I worded my question very carefully. It is significant power differences between players that makes open world PVP failure. Black desert online is not an example that mirrors what New World was proposing to introduce.
Tldr: BDO has vertical progression, power difference and OW PVP.
PVP starts at level 50. The level numerical difference is not a good reflection of either the power curve or the effort to get there in BDO. You can get to lvl 50 in a matter of hours or a couple of days, and then the effort increases dramatically. The power difference in the higher levels is also significant, as is the power difference imposed by the gear curve. Someone can be untouchable just by being a couple levels above another in the 55+ levels, and getting a single level becomes a matter of weeks or more at that point.
Also goal post moving.
You were also not careful enough to read my initial reply at the top of the quotes, or the context of it. New World came in as a different argument. The initial argument was the silly blanket statement that open world PVP MMOs cannot be big.
Based on my research, BDO is not an open world, full loot, vertical progression PVP title. Note all three components. We probably have a misunderstanding because I left the word loot off my description.
It has some of those elements - however, all those elements together is what is niche.
The entire world in BDO is a safe zone until level 40, no full loot. So no, it doesn’t meet the criteria.
For an example of what I’m talking about see: mortal online.
Yeah, I was going to say earlier when people reference hard core or full loot PVP games BD rarely comes up in conversation due to the many controls and limitations placed on the players, though such controls are a big reason why the title is so successful commercially.
