If you are, whats it like?

When I was in beta, the performance was terrible.  Has this improved?

I ask because I am very interested in this game and would like to buy it if its better than during beta....

I played it for 4 hours yesterday. My god.....I don't even know where to start here. I've never gotten a headache from trying to play a game before. it's so clunky and user unfriendly....Grab a trial key off their site. you can try the game for free for 48 hours....you will see what I mean. But...save yourself the trouble of DLing the client and just...don't.

Here is an example for you. I was in town, bought a weapon and decided to give combat a try. I found a chicken. figured it would be a safe first kill so I had at it....lol, I'm still laughing about this....after I hit the chicken once it ran off into the sunset, off my radar/map. I waited about 5minutes for it to come back, and it finally did. So i hit it again and it ran off...AGAIN! I then got the impression that it wasn't actually running off, but the pathing is so absolutely horrid that it couldn't find it's way back to me because of the way it would run, stop, run, stop. After about 45minutes of this I got about 7 people together so we could just all hit it once while it was in range and kill it....woot!

Now, if this game were still in beta I would have some nice things to say about it, but they released it so it's no holds barred....this game sucks out loud.

    The idea behind Irth: image

    Execution: image

Simply, it should still be in Alpha. period.

Hhhmm, so you wouldnt suggest I buy it just yet then.....:)

It would seem that all the beta issues still apply then, shame.

This game has/had alot of promise.

I have killed more than a few mobs in the game and I have only seen a few mob types do this. It tends to happen when players are not as tough as they could be and have to spend a few minutes just to kill a chicken. I could one hit a chicken after 15 minutes of play.

Here is how you do it.
Buy a Bone Harvester, sword skill book, and mayby a helm and then go out and kill mobs and get your sword skill to level 10. Come back to town and buy the Rend Armor combat attack. Get up close to a mob and use rend armor, then attack it. The mob will not last long.

I get my sword skill to level 10 and change over to mace. I have found the maul to be the best weapon for me but it needs extra strength for it to work.

A void this game, another one of the devs screwups:the game has been out almost a week already and the cancel subscription button isn't even implemented yet. After watching this train wreck more and more I am glad I didn't preorder. Too bad they had some awesome ideas.

  • SigneSigne Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 2,524

Eek! How can anyone play a game with no cancel button? Sometimes that's the best bit of the game!

LOL ! MMO game without subscription cancel button?? I can't imagine..

    Bottom line:
IRTH isn't ready. The Devs KNOW it isn't ready. even MARKETING knows it isn't ready. Which is why they gave such huge discounts on the game to anyone foolish enough to pre-order it.

Give it 6 months or so and it'll be what it should have been at release. IF it survives.

I LOVE the concept behind IRTH and it's on my radar. But I'll be waiting 5-6 months and then IF there's a free trial, I'll give it another chance. I really hope it turns into what it should be. Because if it does I'll go there happily. But right now it's just a great idea that doesn't work.

I'm playing.  I agree that Irth Online was released too early, and it still needs a lot of work, but the game IS playable.  It just takes a little more knowledge about the systems and skills, and you must learn to think differently than you would if you played ordinary mmorpgs.  Irth Online is NOT an ordinary mmorpg.

I will keep playing because the game has great potential.  It improves each day, with each patch.  If you have a problem with the game, send a bug report to the devs, and they address it right away.  If you don't beleive me, goto the Forums and see.  They are the best dev team I have seen in a long time when it comes to communicating with the players and gettin on top of issues, and I know, there are alot of issues!

The original posters make a good point that the game is now live, no longer a beta, so if you bash it, that is understandable.  But wait a while and see what this game can turn into, and I think you would hold your comments.  Unfortunately, first immpressions are important and often stick with us.  I hope later on, when the game is better, more players come to check it out.  Right now, unless you are very interested and have patience in a game as it is still being built, I recommend holding off.

The exciting thing is that if you are interested and want to help shape the game, this is the chance, because the devs are listening, and putting the players ideas, comments, and suggestions in very often.

The game will survive.  The thing is, and they knew it.  They have paying beta testers now.  MHS (Magic Hat Studios) was smart enough to know they could get people to pay for anything.  I like Irth, i'm not playing it rignt now, because I know it's not ready.  I'll give it 6 month or a year.  Then it might be a good game.  But right now, it's a paid beta, but does have awsome Dev support and a great player community.

    What is truely sad is:
I remember when companies used to have to HIRE people to beta test software, including games.

Now they have gone full circle and people are PAYING for the 'priviledge' of being Beta Testers.

And what's funny is that people think this is OK :)

Games have changed, especially mmorpgs.  It now is necessary to have the direct involvement of the players, both to improve the game, and also to gain as many paying subscribers as possible in this very competitive and crowded market.  The devs can do their own thing and leave us out of it, or they can include the players in the testing, which doesn't end with the games release.  Mmorpgs are constantly changing and evolving, so you may think of it as paying to test, I think of it as paying to play, and having a change to influence the game as it is still being built.

and games that are built with ideas the players give, suposedly are better off than other games described as "just grinding", "a little more than just mindless crafting", and etc.

and irth has a different vision for mmorpgs, its a great idea, just need sum shaping up.

I just read this on the Irth Online forums . . .

Therefore Anyone who purchases or has purchased the game prior to 11/15/2005 will not pay a monthly subscription until 1/01/2006.

This is when the monthly charges will begin. Why you ask?

We feel that with the issues that have been apparent and reported in the game, that it is in the best interest of Magic Hat and the players to resolve every issue and insure people are happy to the point that they will enjoy their online gaming experience with Magic Hat.

The sales of Irth Online has met and exceeded our expectations, and this is because of the community. And we need to make sure that we always give back to the people that will make Irth Online great.

Proves what I have said in my post above is dead-on accurate about this game and these Devs.

Of course sales may have met there expectations but how many folks will stay?

  • GeekyGeeky Member UncommonPosts: 446

Who cares who stays.  For a company to do something like this is pretty damn good.  They could've just continued to charge people for the next couple months and make money, but thats not the way this team is.  As evidenced from that statement and the actually way they are doing their game.

Two thumbs up to MHS and the Dev team on Irth

Good move on their part. I applaud them for it.

I'm sure that the number of people that bought the game and sent an email to magichat requesting their account be cancelled the same day raised some caution flags.

I'm glad i didn't uninstall the game yet, I'll give it another look in december and see how far they've come.

Shame isn't it, how player expectation's suffered over the years.

The fact that the MMO community has come to understand and expect all the difficulties that come with MMOG developing is both a blessing and a curse...

But I think most companies understand that first impressions of an MMO die hard.
Some games like AO never really shed their bad launch reputation despite having grown into one of the best MMOs of all time.

    MMO Fav List:
    Lineage 2 | 5x Silver Ranger, 7x Shillien Elder <- Active
    WoW | 6x Rogue, 1x Priest
    Anarchy Online | 8x MetaPhysicist
Saga of Ryzom | Matis Light Armourer

Waiting for: Age of Conan, Lineage 3

You know a person might think it sad, but the ironic thing is alot of us players are having alot of fun

Kinda strange but I haven't had this much fun since I started UO

more fun then I have had in COH, WOW and DAOC

Its wonderful seeing the devs on a daily basis ingame, on the forums and in IRC. I love having my suggestions listened to and implemented in the game.

To have a chance to shape a game is an honor :)

    Way to go MHS!!

That's an impressive move, but I still won't play until it starts getting good reviews. Is combat like EQ where you just click attack and away you swing, or is it more like WoW and DAoC?

Of course it launched! I remember picking up the pieces of my computer after it spit them out at me like it was yesterday! ::::35:: I've heard good things about AO these days, however. Evidently they've really turned their game around. About the ONLY Themis Group success, I reckon.

I'd go back to AO if they replaced all the broken computer parts that game caused me and my friends:

2.5 laptops (1 had salvagable parts to fix another), 3 Vid Cards, 1 Motherboard, 2 Processors.
All because of some horrendously bad Memory Leaks that caused overheating.

Edit: Dollar for Dollar... Entropia was cheaper.

EQ, WoW and DAoC are all the same. auto attack with an occasional skill button click. EQ=DAoC=WoW as far as combat goes. DAoC varies a bit by having some of their combat skills be positional or reactionary, but it's all just autoattack.

To answer your question, Irth is the same way.

My wife and I tried the Irth free trial, I have to say it wasn't fun. We both could not see any of that famous 'potential' that all the beta testers keep talking about. The total lack of a tutorial or some form of help made us feel totally lost. Compared to starting in UO, EQ2 and even Horizons, this game was sadly lacking. We were not in the beta and we havent had the advantage of having played for weeks or months to know where everything is, it just doesnt seem very newbie friendly. Why dont new players start with a full set of basic items, so they dont have to wander aimlessly looking for what they need to start playing? Actually buying items was made more difficult because the lag in town was so bad. The game ran quite slow, there were not many mobs to kill, we kept stopping and starting due to lag. Oh yes and it crashed twice in the first 20 minutes. We both beta tested WISH (they got the models from there when it was cancelled) and I have to say WISH was a better game. We both play UO at the moment, and we enjoy that but Irth was not enjoyable, just standing around trying to hit a goat, it actually took the 2 of us about 2 minutes to kill the goat! People who liked UO and WISH will not necessarily like Irth, in fact I cant see many people who play the free trial actually buying it. The game just doesnt look very nice, we could live with just that, but coupled with not running well and being full of bugs....well personally I admire anyone who can stay there for more than 30 minutes. But good luck to those who want to stick with it. Saying that, my wife only stayed in DaoC for 15 minutes hehe
