in my opinion the expansion is long over due... 5 million players is great and everything... but im betting that is the number of copies sold and is not counting the number of accounts that are inactive or not being played anymore... from my experience the lvl increase is a bad idea... horrible even... the only time this would work is if you planned the level increase in at the time of the games creation... and well i have yet to see that level 70 item drop and say "damn it! i cant use this until the expansion."
for instance... look at EQ1 and the level increases
1st Kunark, (level 50 to 60) great expansion level increase did NOT affect the game too harshly due to the gear in the expansion not being too overpowering (major AC increase overall in gear)
2nd Planes of Power (60 to 65) good expansion for content, bad expansion for the fact that the gear was easily obtained that allowed everyone to overpower EVERYTHING before that expansion (implemented gear that had massive stats and hpmana on everything and AA's that made most mobs trivial)
3rd Gates of Discord (think this was 65 to 70) creatures in this expansion had to hit so damn hard that only well disciplined groups ridiculously geared characters were able to complete even the low end content and yet another set of AA's that made even most of the planes of power content trivial (EX: low end guilds getting into plane of time)
by the end of EQ you could get better gear in the bazaar for under 200pp than what was high end gear in the beginning... turning players into god's is not what the vision of the game should have been and a level increase in WoW i have a feeling will do that... if you look at many class spec's you will find a common factor that i do not know if it was intentional or if it was accidental but it was good... warlock, mage, and priest for sure are all 1 talent point from having insane spec's warlocks could go affliction demon and get 25% shadow damage on EVERY shadow spell... that is huge as it stands now you can only attain 10% OR 15%... and that is the unbalance that 1 single talent point does... now think of 10 more levels and 10 more talent points.
these are just my opinions and my observations... you don't have to take my word for it but my credentials would include a EQ cleric lvl 70 w 500 aa's a level 60 warlock 58 MC gear a level 60 rogue mostly pvp gear + some MC... ive seen and done end game content the only level increase EQ did that was acceptable was the one varent put out (kunark) it did not make things trivial.
Like myself, i prefer WoW's in game content, but the PvP system in DaoC was a lot better. Subscribers does not depict the success of a game. Blizzard has a larger marketting power and three generations of RTS games to boast its MMORPG.
And if you took the time to read more forums regarding WoW's PvP system you would quickly find out that hardly anyone is satisfied. and for that very reason is why Blizzard is revamping the entire system as we speak.
On top of that, the end game for any WoW character is poor. Take any end game epic character in WoW and compare them to the next of the same class and you quickly find out how boring the game is. What is the point in playing if 'you' can't make a difference. Thats what DaoC brings to the table that WoW does not.
WILL TIME SPENT GETTING MC LOOT BE WASTED WITH NEW LEVEL CAP?
Ok, I've done alot of thought on a couple of these topics, and would love to get some feedback on this post im writing if at all possible. Ok, one of the things alot of people are concerned about(myself included), is what will happen to all of our MC/BWL/ANQ loot we've worked so hard to get. Will the hours and hours we spent in end game raid instances be wasted compared to a couple hours of work to lvl 70 blues after the x-pack comes out? Now let me preface this by saying, blizzard does seems to have people working for them, that seem to have been huge MMORPG players themselves. They seem to know alot of things that has upset players in the past about end game content. Now one possible solution i think may be feasible is this. They are also comming out with socket items/ jewel crafting. Well, they could base the number of sockets an items gets by its rarity, Meaning Green, Blue, Purple ect. SO yes maybe level 70 blues may be easier to get and maybe better than lvl 60 epics from BWL. But if a player so choosed he could invest some money into getting jewels for his epic gear. And because he would have more sockets from purple gear than someone who just skipped MC and just grinded to 70, he could potentionally have level 60 epics thare are still beter than 70 blues. Now as for lvl 70 epics from the new MC, it will be pretty much the same as it always has. YOu get the tier 1 from MC and than all the sudden u have to get your teir 2 from BWL. However, totally not a waste of time as getting your tier 1 makes things much easier or in some cases is needed to get your tier 2.
Okay the next big issue thats been on my mind. Congrats to blizzard for having over 5 million subscribers each paying a substantial subscription fee. Alot of money being made. Does is seem lilke a reasonable amount of new content is being made compared to how much money they are making? Okay here are my thoughts on it. Blizzard is a company that has set out to do what all companys set out to do : MAKE MONEY. If they can keep 5 million subscribers without having to add much new content to keep them they will. Heres the good news. Im very much looking forward to some of the new MMO's that are schedule to come out this year: such as RF Online and Lord of the Rings. Heres why. Curently blizzard is quite happy with where they are at. IN my opinion the majority of WOW players are more casual in nature, and their subscription would not be affected by lack of new content as they are already pretty happy. If some new MMO's were to come out, suddently Warcraft would have some serious competition and actually have to work to keep it player base growing. Although i have enjoyed most of Blizzard's end game content i do have to say i am to say the least dissapointed. I think when blizzard is faced with some serious competetion either 1 of 2 things will happen.
1) Blizzard says "Yea, We've made our millions, lets just call it a day"
2)Blizzard cranks it into gear, makes some sweet booty content that blows us all away, and gets me as excited to play WOW as i was when i had just bought the game.
As blizzard has a plenty big player base i would love to see a good sized exodus when theese new mmo's come out. And see Blizzard have to work to get them back.
I've put some cosiderable thought into this post and would love to get some feedback
Ask yourself : If i was a average joe who wanted to try MMO gaming or a MMO vet who wanted to try a new game ( and lets face it. what MMO vet hasent at 1 stage had a WoW sub....?) or just someone who wanted a new game for his/her PC
What game should i buy????
how about the game that 5 million of my peers are playing right now??
WoW consumed the entire year of 2005 for me. every night i would get home from work, maybe eat something. and then raid ..for about 6-7 hours soild ...every night if not that i would farm for the odds and ends that rading constanly required
Ony, MC, ZG, BWL
i got all the way to nefarian's lair literally about 1 year the day to from when i first logged on
and i suddenly asked myself a really bizzar question.
What the F*&% am i doing ???
for 8 (eight) months my lvl 60 charater had been exactly the same (give or take a nerf between friends) 8(eight) months of lesser heal, follwed by lesser heal, followed by lesser heal throw in a frost shock here and there for variation
only now i was casting lesser heal in amour, the name of which was writen in purple!!!!! and i had to keep casting lesser heal more often cause the Mobs did more damge!!! Lucky for me i had purple amour which allowed me to cast lesser heal for longer periods of time whew
one thought kept me going thru this though........ if i get the purple amour of this mob i will be able to cast lesser heal even more!!!!
but seriously, WoW has something other MMO,s just dont have an imediacy, a viceral feel about the world and the gameplay almost console like, and so easy
what WoW does not have have any sort of depth of any kind which is what most critics are moaning about: Character customisation, trading, leviling method, base building, consequence of death, crafting(where universilly as stated by blizzard that crafted item will always be inferior to drops)
we must take our collective hats of to blizzard for what they have acheived with this game An MMORPG for the bubblegum swallowing masses, irriversibly and for all time making the MMO a main stream genre...mark my words these days will be set in history!!
im just pissed that im so burnt out on that dumb game and the subscriber base gets bigger every day by the thousands
in honesty if a game came along now that did what WoW does so well and added the depth of customisation in gameplay, base building and open PVP ........I prolly be prepared to pay $50 mebe $60 a month
Originally posted by mattybee007 In honesty if a game came along now that did what WoW does so well and added the depth of customisation in gameplay, base building and open PVP ........I prolly be prepared to pay $50 mebe $60 a monthwada u reckon
Not overly sure about the $50/$60 per month but yes such a game would rock!
Tril,
Mudflation will occur anyway from expansions, but i think Burning Crusade will probably make it so that lvl60 blue geared players can play and level through the content to 70, and then have the final big raid encounters needing people who have epic gear. So all the time in MC/BWL/AQ won't be wasted as they'll probably make you need all that gear just to be able to do the encounter (sigh), which is not something i'm looking forward to but it'll probably what they'll do.
1) Why complain about the cost of the expanison? Sure, it costs money, but the development of the expanison ALSO costs money too. That's SOFTWARE. If Blizzard gave it out free, how would they do it? Explain that to me. Two weeks of maintenance? I don't think so. Everyone here has a job, why don't you just suck it up and buy it? Either that or don't come back. I wouldn't care either way.
2) I don't get this idea of Blizzard "crediting" XP to people who have done quests and earned XP at 60. So you spent that time on the game... too bad. That was your choice. They'd like you to EXPERIENCE the new content instead of being 70 the day of release.
3) Blizzard will answer questions in the upcoming months. Do any of you really expect this expansion to be out in less than 6 months? No? I thought so.
4) If you don't like WoW, fine. Just don't critique it on these boards about the expanison. All you're doing is just proclaiming how much your other MMO is better -- newsflash, none of us care.
5) Keep in mind that the content that they've announced for the expansion is probably just a taste of what's to come. I'm sure there's tons more (e.g. new Alliance race, models, items) to be released to the player base in the months to come.
6) I like the new things they've announced for the expansion, and I'm excited to see what else they plan on telling us! Blizzard is working hard on this and I know that it will look great in the end. I mean, flying mounts? That is cool in itself. No one needs to critique this just yet -- it's a preview.

This will provide little reward as the reward tokens have a unique 20 stack attribute. This means that the player would only ever be able to hold 20 of each of the medal types (i.e. arathi basin 20, warsong gulch 20, alterac valley 20) after that the player would stop receiving them after the match and they would be delivered via post to him, post has life timer before it disappears. The timer isnt enough to last until the burning crusade is released.
