Hey...
I was just thinking with all the different MMORPG that has come out would not one based upon one of the most popular game series ever be a good area to start from?
Would you be interested in a Half-life based MMORPG? Do you think they will ever create one?
Questions/comments?
Thanks

I'm gonna say it's not the most popular series, it's just the most popular single player fps.
No HL wouldn't work as a mmorpg

The world is very rich, a lot of characters already formed. How would it not work?
Perhaps its time to setup a game more player and storyline driven instead of just hack and slash your character does not matter.
What if you constantly raiding an area changed it into something else? WHat if the world evolved and those newbie Mobs you killed a few months ago have changed, to another Newbie mob? The rat problem is gone, but now there is some other problems.
Half-life is successful because it draws you in its rich world, not just because its good to shoot things. There are plenty of games where you can shoot things.
Also people are already using Half-life2 Source engine.
How would it not work?
I'm just sick of the copy/past that makes up the mmorpg market. Waiting for something revolutionary in the way we think of games. We're in a paradigm in the gaming industry.
Quoted for truth.
While an online world based in the Half Life universe would be interesting it wouldn't work as an MMO. Most half life fans are FPS players. My immediate group of gaming friends are all Half Life fans, and FPS players. I'm the one guy who plays MMOs out of us all, and even I wouldn't touch a Half Life MMO.
Now if you're talking about something more complicated than simply taking the Everquest/WoW formula, and transplanting it to the Half Life setting I'm willing to listen to your ideas, but Boozbaz is absolutely correct about the copy and paste development in the MMO genre.
I highly doubt Half Life is the most popular game ever.
When people will pay others to play a game for them it might be a sign the game isn't all that fun.
It is possible but it brings a few problems. The game world would have to expanded on. While its got alot, its not near enough for a MMO. This also creates another issue. Add the wrong kind of content and the fans will hate it. We see this in alot of MMOs based off other worlds now.
Half-Life is a very successful world. By far the most successful ever. Not just single player but deathmatch also.

Stick to Sven Co-Op for the closest you will get to a HL MMORPG. They even have RPG levels.
It could work, but I don't think Valve would want to bank their reputation on a HL-MMORPG without spending.....a few years on it like some other sequel.
