Is it worth it?

I've been trying to find a MMO for me to settle on, i've been through SWG, CoH, WoW, Eve, RV, EQ2, and FFXI. Some of them i've played more than once, FFXI being one of them. I was wondering if it was worth coming back to.
The first time i played it was a few months after it's release because my friends got the PS2 version and convinced me to join them online. So i did, but after a month or so i ended up quitting because i couldn't catch up to them in lvl, and finding parties drove me crazy. I ended up playing WoW for a while and had a few months of not playing anything. Then after hanging out with my group of friends who convinced me the first time, they got me into it again, so i got it running on my PC and was playing again. Like with most games, the second time through is much faster. But i ended up not having much time due to work and school, so i didn't have much time to play with my friends, and when i did, they were way too high for me to party together. So i ended up quitting again.
After this i played WoW again for a while, but it wasn't fun for me so i gave that up after about two months. Recently i've tried the trials for EQ2, RV, Eve, and WWIIO, all of which were alright, but they weren't my thing, so it wouldn't make sense to stick with them. I've been waiting for LOTRO to come out, but i feel that won't live up to my expectations, so i want to go in another direction. I'm starting to go away from PvP, and i know that FFXI has a lot of PvE, which is great, and it also has a little PvP when i get bored.
I just want to know if it's worth coming back to. I know they're coming out with an expansion, or it might already be out. I don't want to get started on this again and get bored and quit. I've never maid it to the endgame, i've got to like the first 1/4 of the levels then i gave it up. So anyone have info on the community, or the partying in the game, because when i played it would always take an hour for a group to be put together, then after you killed something, everyone had to go eat or walk the dog or go to bed or whatever. Also are there any large guilds or clans, i can't remember what they were called, linkshells or something.
