about working together as an army, with grunts, tanks, aircraft and
    huge frickin robots.
It's not war either; because if it were- the leadership system would be a bit more complicated than "leveling up" and /comall "my font is teal."  This game fails as an FPS game for sure because of how it makes engagements simply a question of numbers on each side.  What's worse is that it also fails as an RTS because of the lack of in-game mechanics that support leading an army and controlling a battlefield. That's why PlanetSide is horrible, that's why no one plays it- and that's why I'll never play it again.  It fails at everything it tries to be, and excels at nothing.

red- can u elaborate on that please?

    green- partialy true. Of
course if you have a greater number then u will win, that would be
logical no? I mean, if 1 man can kill 100 people, wouldnt that be
unbalancing and just plain ... stupid? The personal aspect of the game
can EASILY boost your effectiveness even if u r outnumbered (ive seen
crazy ass elite outfits defending bases while outnumbered 3 to 1).

yellow-this is NOT an RTS. You control 1 character ONLY.

teal-I beg to differ. Just yesterday I loged in and there was a huge
NCvsVS engagement on esamir... I was NC and we were pressed against
time to capture the capital.. we failed becuase NC numbers fell after
VS performed superbly (while being outnumbered 47% to 53%). NCs also
did some good stunts, we captured half the continent but failed in our
    main task. Good fight!

    orange-I suppose its a
matter of opinion. PS numbers have shortened in the last years, but in
the past months id say it was increasing (mainly due to free-gameplay
people, but still increasing). PS is the first of its kind, getting as
close to the MMO part as no other FPS has gone before. It may not be a
smashing hit like WoW but it paved the way for FPS genre into the MMO
market. Thats a great and promising start IMO. The biggest faults that
resulted in loss of players is lack of updates and the ones that we did
have were not too good (thnx SOE!). What PS excells at is pure hardcore
FPS-PVP, very well balanced where your personal skills make you as good
as you are. If you suck, u die a lot, if u rock, u kill a lot. There is
always a battle somewhere, no downtime, no waiting for groups, no mobs,
minimal ganking, lots of weapons and vehicles.

I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

This is a good game, Perfect to have as secound game countra the usual mmorpg's that tend to get alittle to slow some times. This is where i burn off my energy before i go back to play a "softer" game. like, eq2 or daoc

Wrong you and people like you suck.. Some of us had no problem owning people in this game..

Case in point, my last few days in PS recently before my sub ended I was bored so made a brand new character..

Without rexo and as just a grunt with my BR nothing character I was able to Top Emerald in kills in under 5 hours of gametime. --->   UnlikeUIDontHideInREXO

Doesn't say much for the population of Emerald these days.

Well not being a massive fan of fps games i tried planetside to test out my new computer (which mite i add is beast image) and i really enjoyed it, the whole atmosphere of your outfit leader directing troops, using tactics to draw the enemy away from the main target to a lesser tower, the variety of weapons, vechiles and what id call classes (be it sneaking around, all out firepower, hacking etc.). The sheer scale of it makes the game really fun, and the fact noobs get spoken to and helped out by other players gives an added bonus for me!  Games are about fun and if thousands of people are online playing it then it must be fun, its not about how realistic it is or the game mechanics being irregular to the conncer its about FUN and planetside provides that fun!

few days ago renewed my subscription for a month and had enough instant fun, though my ratio declares me as newb. from 5 kills/65 deaths to 20/40 yesterday. ^^

im not tryin to start anything, but counter-strike and counter-strike source  are 2 games that willl NEVER EVER let you down. i've been playing cs since the release and mmo's even longer starting with uo. I'll never get sick of CS tho... its like CRAKK!

Both CS and Planetide are great games however they differ quite alot from eachother because CS is made for team tactics and PS is made for army tactics. You have to think alot differently. Personally I like Planetside much better. Playing a poplocked cont for a few hours and take it is a great feeling because you cant single out any one person as the one who won the war, it was the effort made by hundreds which made the win possible and that gives a helluva team feeling. Just by placing an AMS at the right spot you can turn the battle at a strategic point, 1 person, 1 vehicle, and no one will know it was you but you dont really care because it was still a team effort... thats pretty cool if you ask me.

    P.S
Ratios dont mean squat. You can have done countless things that will have helped without killing. Transports, Repairs, medics, AMS, hacking or even as a meatshieldimage.

I used to love Planetside, the new changes seemed bad to me after not playing for some time too.. HOWEVER I believe that the biggest part that makes Planetside not what it used to be is the playerbase, there used to be massive battles when this game came out and now there is only a few medium to large battles and usually only one going on at a time.. What a sad dissapointment, hopefully huxley will be better:/ However I doubt it will ever be what Planetside once was or have the promise that Planetside once had=(

It seems to same to me, (with the exception of the bfrs) only real problem is that no as many ppl play it so, you get less of tank battles and more just ppl rapin with there max br gear.

Good the balance pass patch (which brought more vehicles into the game) was another reason why alot of people left the game.  Less tanks/reavers/skeeters is a good thing and brings alot of us Vets memorys of the old days when vehicles didn't dominate the game.

How did PlanetSide end up turning out? I played it during beta and loved the feel of a mmorpg but was never interested enough to go out and buy the game, let alone paying the monthly for it.

Is it worth trying to jump back in at this point or is it just too far out there?

To be honest, I tried playing planetside again after not playing since the expansion came out, and wow... I got whooped.  I think they need to disable to K:D tracker for new players, because it was really getting me down after a while.  image

It felt lonely for me though, going back to PS.  My old outfit was long gone and I didnt have anyone to play with.  I think I joined some random outfit, and no one really seemed friendly.  The game felt really slow, I think I had forgotten just how long you can go in PS without getting killed or killing someone.  Theres a lot of wandering around and waiting, especially when you are new and dont know where to go.

I have a lot of good memories from Planetside but to be honest I dont think I could ever enjoy it again.  image  It isnt a bad game or anything... I dunno.

Removing those multiticket vehicle skills would sort that out.
