THE game

No many how many online games I play I cannot find that one perfect game. Maybe I am just looking for too much? Or maybe alot of other gamers feel the same way, I don't know but I do know that something needs to be done. Although this is only my opinion I hope others share the same view. I really wish there were an MMO you can just jump in and play, quick tutorial, get up and go kinda thing. Whether it be fantasy or sci-fi or whatever, I don't think games really need to have you grind for 300 hours before you can start to really play. I would enjoy not nesesarily having to grind or get uber armor or whatever but to have TOTAL customization abilities, certainly still have weapons or ships or what have you, but being able to become good at the game without investing your whole life in it. This is my "vision" and I want to know what other people think.

That sounds nice but I do not think that such a game would stay popular for long.... while I would love to "Just jump in and not have to grind 300 hours before I realized what I had done wrong" I think without that depth you will not retain players for long.... anything with depth of gameplay is going to take a while to learn.

Eve is a extreme of this .... anybody can play fairly fast but to really play it takes months of training and a lot of experience before I think it really starts to get fun... alas a lot of people do not stay and learn and hence HATE the game... (There's things I hate about it to)... on the other hand there are games that are easy to learn and quick to master and hence nobody stays around because it gets boring. Sometimes you just cannot win I think..... so I think I would rather find a game that perhaps helps you more but leaves a good deal to be discovered by the player.

Witty saying to amuse you goes here.

Mmorpgs are generally boring games - you log on, kill stuff for 18 hours til youre suffering from exhaustion then log off a bit fed up to say the least. There is ofcourse the alternative playstyle of log on for 1 hour every 2 days but these people get eaten alive by most games as it takes a certain number of hours to obtain the basic comprehension to have fun for an hour.

The main problem is excitement: There has to be one major thing that makes you excited about the game. Like Jedi in SWG - people were genuinely excited as they were grinding towards something that not many people had and that would be guaranteed fun in pvp. Everyone was grinding different classes in a different order and there was a tremendous buzz on the server. People who had jedi did not get the bitter-sweet 'well it wasnt worth it' feeling as it was fun as hell. In general I think that a fun game must start with a franchise & lore you can get into. Like star trek online - Im not actually that bothered how the game plays, Im jus looking forward to a couple of months of star trek lore and hoping for a game that keeps me longer. This sort of pre-meditated excitement means that even if you jus log on for an hour, any progress you make towards your goal or any time you spend around this lore - is fun. This sort of researchable lare (6 star wars movies / 30 star trek series) also means that there is no initial grind to find out whats going on - you log in, see a lore character youre very fond of or even quest to kill them and its fun.

Ofcourse interface is important - an intuitive interface with easy, adjustable short cuts is important as the 1 hour / week people dont want to spend the first few weeks using the interface. Like you say, customisation is incredibly important. For example, an armor piece could have cosmetic sub components that can be changed but fundamentally the statistics would be created by a farmable crafting component. Example: everyone is running around in +5 chest piece of general uberness but *all* of these have to be crafted (making crafting essential) and they can all look totally different although they have a basic common style like the metals between the colours & shapes are static to say 'i am uber but I look good too'.

To be honest mate it does seem like youre asking for an 'I WIN' button when it comes to customisable armor. I'd be interested to see how it turns out though - what if you crafted your *own* armor every 5 levels that had many customisable abilities and reflected the best equipment for your level. Funamentally this removes a LOT of fun from the game - I really enjoy doing a difficult quest or killing a difficult boss for the loot. I *really* do not like side-farming for money though.

At the end of the day we need a game that focuses on fun at every level but still remains level based to give more experienced players a more rewarding role that recognises veteran status. This is an incredibly difficult task to quantify as *any* veteran rewards will be desirable in order for the game to progress and asking people not to desire this progression would require something equally desirable at their current level - begging the question - why stay on the game if im getting more of the same for the rest of my days?
