I will take this over "but they are a small group" every day of the week.

I'm delusional, geezus...all MMORPG's (and arguably all video games) are virtual worlds. RV is hardly unique is being a "Virtual World".
Anyhow, you've proven beyond all reasonable doubt that you can't present a rational argument without resorting to illogical bollocks, so go back to your "Virtual World" and leave the discussion to the humans.

Whoa, is it getting hot in here? Theres some bad flames goin on

Ulujain and sempiternal - you are both arguing two different things. Ulijain is arguing about how RB is going for the "charity" approach and how they are a small development team, and Sempiternal is supporting the fact that players should play that game for that reason. Yet sempiternal is really supporting the fact that RV is a small, specialized game made for a small audience and is unique.

But thats not what I have beef with.

First of all, Roma Victor isnt the first game to create a "virtual world". All MMO's have done that. If youre talking a historical place....well alright, I can give you that. However that is not the big issue here. Its that word that we use, called "potential".

What has gotten into people these days? I see that word thrown about all over the place. And its not just me, its other people as well .Take a look at the general forums, and you'll see a thread currently on page 2 or 3 when I originally wrote this, a short thread in which a player rants his problems with the word "potential". We are simply too quick to label a game having "potential". Sure, EVERY MMO game out there has POTENTIAL, otherwise we wouldnt be interested in it. But using it as a fact to buy the game? This game is broken, at the moment it is pure trash.

Would you buy a brand new car that you know is broken, but buy it just for its "potential"? Would you buy a computer made by a company that you know stinks, but says that the computer will run great someday? That is has POTENTIAL? Think about what youre doing; youre putting trust into a company - and that trust is your money. Even though the product may have potential, IT IS NOT COMPLETE.

I refuse to pay for something that is not complete. To me, this game is utter trash period. I hate it when companies release games that are unfinished. I dont care if 90% is done, it has to be 100% done or im not getting what I pay for. Im not sounding evil, Im sounding rational. When you buy it, youre only encouraging the companies to CONTINUE to release games that are crap. Look at DnL: people bought that game because of the word "potential" yet for this whole damn time that game has been crap. And will stay crap.

And dont give me the excuse of "theyre a small company." Guess what? I dont really care. Have respect for yourself and even for your own fellow gamers. If you see a game that is incomplete when it comes out, dont buy it. Im not paying full price for my half of a pizza pie - I want my full pie, thank you very much.

    Sincerely,

    Dr. Steelarm

As are most of the arguments for this once promising game.   Unfortunately, they have proven to be just as accurate as all the broken promises of the past year.  This one hurts especially bad, because I for  one had high hopes for this game.   Oh well, the genre has proven most disappointing.../shrug

Sorry, you can't even give RV that much. A Tale in the Desert is set in Pharaonic-era Egypt. It bills itself as an historical MMORPG too.

Don't forget Puzzle Pirates is also listed as historical  And it's highly rated at 8.1

I'm not a huge fan, but I have to ask what other game is there?

There's no other game that's as good as this piece of garbage if what you want is a full out virtual, pvp world. Shadowbane is the closest game and I'd rather stick with this a while longer and hope that the dedicated devs can fix the problems.

To me playing MMORPG's that are PvE or instanced PvP feels like playing tic-tac-toe. You do it over and over again and it means nothing. I want a game where I can build an empire, fighting against real people that want their empire to be bigger than mine.

I'm not a PK'r wanting to grief, but I do want the community that comes from real PvP with player looting. I want a game that has raids and open calls for town defense. I've seen this already in RV, and others have as well.

I'm not asking for charity for RB, Nobody in gaming deserves it.

I will say that if you only take what the top dev's make then you're stuck with the formulaic game that exists now. WoW is what you'll get over and over, just with a different skin. Get ready for no challenge, controlled consensual pvp, easy PvE with no death penalty, optional crafting, no community trash talking WoW forever.

Basically i cut and paste this from the rating board here from a reviewer. This is exactly all the game is atm .

I dont even kno when or where to start. Let me go ahead and say that I knew of this game because of mmorpg.com, and I bought the game because it was rated a 8.0 on here. I figured it could be that bad.....I WAS WRONG. I hate people who complain about graphics. The reason why every game isnt top notch is because of lag. Not everyone can afford a $5000 super computer, and thats fine with me. My curent computer can run just about anyhing at the highest rez without and problems. I still play games from the mid 90's because they are GOOD GAMES, not because of the graphics. Anyway, I digress, the point Im trying to make is that the game DOESNT HAVE THEM. Your chars faces are litertly PICTURES of real life peoples faces that they stuck on a body...porly. The backrounds and sky look like crapy pictures of some hills. I mean seriously, we're talking Kodak disposable camera grade here. Graphics get a 1, wish I could give 0. Sound: None at all really. Nothing inspiring Value: I give it a 0 if I could. Ive played better qbasic games for cheaper. Fun: To get past the 1st part of where you are a newbie takes something like 12 hours. The stuff is pretty much run for 150 miles to get mud from a river and make a mud wall. My god, its boring. Community: Not bad really. You'll have some die hard fans on there kicking themsevles for paying 40 dollars and hoping and praying the game will turn into....a game. People seemed nice but like I said, might as well go to a chatroom. Performance/Lag: For example -> i ping 50 to 10 on most Coutnerstrike servers. I ping 300-600 on this game. UNPLAYABLE. Customer Service: I asked for a refund of my 37 dollars I spent for a crapy chatroom where you can do other stuff. So far, nothing. Role Playing: Ill give it an 8. Whys that? Because there is no game to play....Its almost like a chatroom where you can do things. Extremely boring things. Its not a game, its a chatroom that you just paid 40 dollar for. STAY AWAY. I would give this game a negative score if I could. My 40 dollars are weeping.

You don't hear people talking about sound or background music too often, maybe it's because it is subliminal and we take it for granted, but I really do appreciate quality sound. Sound enhances the environment considerably.

Roma Victor is really lacking here also.

Oh, there's a good solution. You just burned your own ass. Hope everyone else with a brain caught that too. Why don't you team with Farlan over at DnL? He shares your philosophy on developing a game

Well that seems to be a common thread when a game is SEVERELY underperforming-"buy it because it has potential even though its horrible now".

I think as more people bought the key it became more apparent to the actual state of the game. When i posted about the state of this game as a pre order i was bombarded by due hard fans and people who read the features on the site and have not played it.

Weeks gone by and people have bought the keys and the truth became more visible.

OK I'm ashamed of admiting that I bought the game. I only tried it for a few hours and I'm already having an anxienty attack from the lag. I looked at the wiki and there where 5 peeps logged in to the game and yet a terrible lag!
Then finding out how to learn skills, buying, talking to the master, transfer money and so forth are beyond the WIKI manual and the forums, type "/Learn skill confirm" typing "master" to get a mission. There are so many information leaks in this game, why couldn't they just have put buttons that pointed to the commands? OH! everything is named 'NPC_a 3754' 'Civic_a 2' or yet better 'sand_a merchant' couldn't RB named the stuff more accurately as to say soldier, sand merchant, civic house? It relly p****s me off. I know for a fact that legionnaires wasn't named NPC_a 3754 why does RB insist on calling RV a historical MMO when the names aren't historical?

This is a beta game and RB should be ashamed of fooling me from my hard earned money. Never before have I seen such a shamefull greed and amateurism from a company not even SOE's messup of SWG can be compared to this sham.

funny part is the game got 7.3 rating from users on this site.Mind you only 77 ppl voted and the die hards (which i doubt much are left even) would give it 10/10 to try boost it.
  • BuZZKilgoreBuZZKilgore Member Posts: 525
C'mon be honest, if this was a single player game you would be demanding your money back. Even if the devs of the game were swearing that they were working day and night to fix all the bugs and add content. So why do people make up excuses for a MMO that was in no way near complete enough to release it? I just don't get it.

ignesti, that whoisonline is for the wiki not the game.  Your information is just as worthless as your opinion.

My oh my, what a nice representative of the RV community you are. Are you a fanboi of another game, because it seems like that looking at your previous posts. Take a R&R and a course in public relations and maybe increase your EQ

OK you are probaby correct about the counter in the WIKI, but common, the game is pure and utter BETA. It shouldn't have been sold, maybe free to download and play and as Project  Entropia buy stuff with realworld money, maybe a small tweak in the VERM system could solve the comming crash.

    No.

The graphics do not "suck,"(when compaired to games from 1986) the game is not "bug ridden,"(Assuming you can log on) attending is not required nor is it "boring" or "unimaginative," (when compaired to watching paint dry) it's not "very difficult to earn money in-game," (just buy some) and it is a fact that there is no monthly fee.(they should play us to beta test it).

Those players that do not suck( are probably playing a good game), that are not boring and that are not unimaginative have no problem interacting and earning plenty of in-game Sesterces from those who's time, or donation to a great game, is more valuable than the money they contribute.(I have no idea what that meens)

The server has lacked stability since release, but it is improving.(unless more than 20 people manage to log on at once)

If you want to play a reasonably believeable iron-age Virtual World, where nearly everything can be player crafted or constructed, Roma Victor is it. ( I seen on the History channel that Roma soldiers were really named NPC_a761248).

If you want to talk about failure, Samuraisword, you could be listed in the definition.(right beside RV)

    Fixed it for you.

    Dude, 2 points:

RB didnt 'fool' you into buying this game, you didnt do your homework. With the exception of the tracking (ie lag) and logon bugs, you list nothing that RB didnt tell or show you before hand. You should be ashamed of buying a game you didnt do any research on then comming here and crying because it wasnt all you had hoped for.

Also, as I think somone pointed out before, that link is for how many people are on the wiki...not the game, please learn to read more better before you go spewing, ok?

Let me explain it to you in small words, so that maybe you will get it. This-is-not-a-single-player-game. Got that? It is an MMO. Most MMO's have trouble at the start...trouble that can only be discovered when a game actually goes live. In addition, there is no monthly fee, so you arent even having to pay while you wait for your issue to be fixed, unlike most MMO's.

(ABOUT NOT DOING MY HOMEWORK, LOOK ON MY SECOND POST ABOVE! A Swedish proverb says: DON'T THROW STONE IN A GLASSHOUSE, I did appologise about the WIKI counter)

1st I hate long list with quotes, sorry with the one above.

2nd, grinreaper you are one ugly fanboi, complaining about me not doing my homework. You didn't read my second post in this thread. Crawl back to the stone you where born under.

I read a lot about this game, plowed through endless forums, yes it said the lag would be terrible but I couldn't imagine that the lag would be as bad as it is. As I browsed through the screenshots from ingame I would never expect to see names like 'Legionaire_a 3572' and 'merchant room a 50' etc. I asked for player screenshots to be posted here on MMORPG.com but I saw none.

Reading the forums, fanbois like grinreaper, said that RV has great oppertunities to be THE MMORPG, too bad no one said it had  parallells to WWIIO (posted in another topic in MMORPG after I purchased the game). This game has been launched too early and it will NEVER become anything more than a base for fanbois.

I thought long and hard about buying this game, I read and reread posts. RB seemed to have "fixed" the lag issue and I thought that it would be OK to play.

Nah, my freinds reading the forums didn't give me a clue on how bad this game really is. Yes they said it was bad, but not as bad as it really is. Revert the publish, stop new players to buy the game, fix the database so that I don't have to look at the but ugly names of NPCs, get some buttons for the slash commands, fix the lag issue and the mem-leak (OMG that one is terrible).

May the plague infest all fanbois!

Next time I will wait until MMORPG.com posts a review of the game. Although their first review of SWG was misleading, the pre NGE was way better than mmorpg.com wrote.

Yes, I did read your second post, I just didnt care. If you are going to claim there are 5 people in the game and it is still laggy, you might want to be sure of your facts or be thick skinned enough to suck it up when you are wrong...

Also, if your 'intense reasearch' consisted of reading the posts here (fanboi or otherwise), then you pretty much proved my point.

If you had looked at the first screen posted...you would see a_celt_chief 123456 or some such.

So from where I stand, you like the kid at the store who orders the flamming hot cheetoes, then complains because they are spicy...correct me if I am wrong

If you need me, I will under my rock...well, actually I will be working on making handsaws in RV, but I will let you keep your illusions...grin.

  • herculeshercules Member UncommonPosts: 4,925

Actually coming to think of it if not that this game cost less then the average retail new mmorpg and has no monthly fee i am sure it will have as much hate as D&L because this 2 have something in common they are both terrible.

D&L charged more then retail and still asked for monthly fee so deserves the award for worst mmorpg of the year but RV aren't far behind just that its cheaper!

OK this might be too hard for you.
In the qute I have used different colours, below I will use the same colours to reply on your IMO insanly funny replies. Dude do you read or can you read!? It seems like you are not making any effort

Proves my point...Fanbois should be locked up. It's like a bad episode of Big Brother -'Talk to the left because you are not right (using the hands to show) or like a normal Oprah show, no one listens to what the other one says and it escalates.

Where did I say that it was only MMORPGs forum? You read like the devil reads the bible, only what you want. Pick up a book about 'a dog named spot' and start over learning about how to understand what you read.

Ahh my friend, you prove my point again and again, are you dyslectic? The first screen posted was from the ... Beta... One would expect that something horrid as that would have been corrected when released? Why can't anyone post an ingame screenie, are you afraid that you will scare off peeps?  Again you seem to be unable to read a simple text.

OK I will be happy to correct you. I'm the boy who complains about the "flaming hot cheetoes" being tasteless, not even close to be mild.

To stop other intelligent people from reading anymore of your desperate fanboi posts I will not reply anymore. You can post whatever you want, calling me the traitor of all MMORPGs or that I'm an idiot etc. Good luck with your handsaws, seems really intresting, I hope you will prosper and be the greatest handsaw producer in RV.

Oh by the way is your real name, grinreaper, by any chance George Bush? If not, you would probably get along, seems that you two are on the same level
