NDA lifted - whats it like?

TorakTorak Member Posts: 4,905

I was wondering since all the hoopla over the payplus thingy...

What is the game like?

  • Kill task or actual content?
  • What impact will the payplus thingy have/
  • whats the customization like? I read from someone here that only female moonelves can be mages for example.
  • Performance any good?
  • Whats the gameworld like?
  • How bad is the grind?????
  • Are the 40 a month players getting the same basic content/gameplay as the 10 a month player? What is the difference if anyone knows at this point.

It's not quite like that. Also, I don't really see any impact of payplus as we are not really paying to play.

Unless there is something I missed along the way.

It's hard to really speak about this game as a good part of the game is go to one playce and grind away.

It IS sort of like Lineage 2 but that is only slightly cosmetic. It shares a bit of the art design but it is clear that it is not L2.

A lot of potion spamming but you get used to this. No real downtime at all. At the moment the servers are open PvP but there will be PvE servers where the battles take place in the Battle Square as well as other designated areas.

It almost feels like it is L2 had L2 been made a year prior. However, some of the outside areas seem a bit more involved that L2 grassy areas... more vegetation. You really have to put the graphics up though.

It seems that the original makers made it mouse movement and threw in the WASD control. However, they say they are working on that.

The noob world seems a bit linear. go down a path... find an area of mobs and grind. Go further down the path and find an area of mobs to grind.

I've seen some peopel complain that (on archlord forums and in game) that Lineage 2 is just the same mobs with different textures. How they cannot miss that this game is also the same mobs with different textures is beyond me and proves onece again that all humanity, on some level, is insane.

The classes are tied into sex. Mages are female, melee are male.

I think Archers are female too. Though I have to say that I've only seen a few. The Moon Elves are all female. All of this is tied into the lore.

There is an auction house. The characters get one skill point every lvl which they then can put into any one skill, buff or ability they want. so in that way there is some customization.

Still, you will find characters that have the same armor and weapons etc. This might change at higher lvls.

I absolutely love the way you enhance weapons. You can use these special potions to make them stronger (though there is a chance for failure). By stronger they do a bit of extra damage. However, you can also add gems to the weapons and armor. Each items has from none to many (saw five slots on one item) slots where you can put gems that add types of damage or benefits to the item.

You can add "magic" gems, Electrical, Fire, Water, Earth. I have a gem which helps prevent the use of slow (haven't used it because I think slow is a higher lvl spell and I haven't come across anyone that has it).

You have to hold down control and double click on the target to attack them. Once you do that though you don't have to do that again.

If yo are a pker it will be hard because you lose benifits the more people you kill. Like being able to use merchants and the like. You have to collect 50 scrolls in order to remove part of your penalty. I hear they are hard to come by but dont' know first hand.

Oh, I haven't really gotten high enough lvl to really speak about content. The quests seem to be a lot of run here run there and kill x amount of monsters. I'm not sure what the higher lvl content is like but I have a feeling that it is like L2 in that you just go to higher lvl areas and grind higher lvl monsters.

    Is it worth playing?

uh... sure. But it really isn't a "next generation" mmo. It is what it is. A korean grind pvp game. In some ways better then L2 and some ways not.

Would I replace L2 with this. Hmmmm.. probably not. But then again, L2 has been out for a while and this is in Beta.

It boggles the mind that Asian designers have not included WASD movement AND its amazing that Western players are so fricking whinny about it.

    Yuck

I was never able to figure that one out lol WTF are they talking about??? Some mob with different textures??? Play EQII. They use the same damn models for different mobs.

    Damn, thats no fun

BRAVO for AH's...to bad it sounds pretty average so far

I read that, sounds like a nice PKer control system. It should piss off the gankers to no end lol. I guess they will never get the game they want.

Sounds like to many gameplay elements mimic L2 to be honest. We already have L2. Just like Vanguard. We already have EQII. All this sounds like it brings is restricted character choices (3 races, classes limited to sex) and a player will control the world, whatever that is suppost to do. Does that really matter and will anyone really care???

Would I replace L2 with this. Hmmmm.. probably not. But then again, L2 has been out for a while and this is in Beta. Its a damn shame here we are over 2 years after L2/WoW/GW and not a halfway decent game has released EAST or WEST...I guess its L2 then, you coming to the new server with us?

It's kind of odd, I actually did some exploring of the Archolrd world and found a few neat areas. I do have to say this. Deribelle city in the Moon Elf lands not only rivals, but surpasses anything found in L2. It's absolutely huge and quite frankly, breathtaking.

So there... the one thing that Archlord has over L2

Yeah... I really think that it's up to games like Aion or Sun (L3?) to take the genre one step farther if they dare.

This is not L2 but I would say that is is in the same family as L2.

It does have a lot of potential but I don't know if the developers are really up to it.

I'll make a character on Franz but will probaby not stay there. Spent too much time getting my character to 75 to abandon it now. Also, the Euro siege times will never do.

So, here's a thought  Are the going to make the mobs spawn like they did in prelude/C1? Because as I see it now, the mobs in the noob areas are few and far in between.

The quests are indeed kill tasks, go to NPC A, go Pickup Item B, go find XX, a lot like World of Warcraft Quests. basicly the same thing. but the game is for a big part about pvp. and make no mistake, Archlord really is for the Lineage 2 audience.

What impact will the payplus thingy haveNot a lot. TBH, the only thing that I personally think is worth buying are the skill reset and the 20% EXP boost, and if you use the 10$ payment plan, you should have NO trouble to afford this.

whats the customization like? I read from someone here that only female moonelves can be mages for example. The customization in this game is actually quite impressive,You can fully customize your weapons & armor with crystals and upgrades. for example, you can add 3x earth (or any other elementals) crystals to your weapon or armor, you can add + damage crystals, + hit rate crystals, anything. you can fully customize your equipment.you can even combine crystals and upgrade them to customize your character even further. The looks of character customization is very low at the start of the game. but as you level up, more options become avaible at an npc located in all towns. there are more customization possibilites then Lineage 2, thats for sure. only gender is class based.

No 2 players are the same, because you even have to pick your skills, you can't pick all of them. unlike World of Warcraft talents, there is more then just one route that works. you have to pick the skills that fit to your playing styles. for example, as a Moon elf ranger (the class I play) I can pick increased defence, or improved movement speed if I want to Kite and I don't use defence too much. Or I can take both and sacrifice another skill.

    Human:
    Knight - Male
    Archer - Male
    Mage - Female

    Orc:
    Berserker - Male
    Huntress - female (duh)
    Sorcerer - Male

    Moon Elf:
    Elementalist - Female
    Ranger - Female

Performance any good? No. its still Beta, there is quite some lag around.

Whats the gameworld like?its HUGE, not to mention its wide open (In fact, the world is very similiar to Lineage 2). only the starter area's (the first 20 levels or so) are a linear path, to make sure you don't get confused. the world is big, and its wide open.

How bad is the grind?????About the same as Lineage 2, except you can chose if you do quests or just grind Lineage 2 style.

Are the 40 a month players getting the same basic content/gameplay as the 10 a month player? What is the difference if anyone knows at this point.Yes, you get the full game for 10$ a month. 40$ a month won't get more content then 10$ players.  40$ gives you the chance to buy some more enhancements then 10$ do (they both can buy the same enhancements, yes, even the 10$ gets a load of credits to spend, 40$ can just buy MORE of them)

Imho, Archlord is in many ways an Improved version of Lineage 2. It has a lot of intresting features, of which some I mentioned in red. others are, ofcourse, the Archlord system, the ability to transform into monsters, a bounty hunter system.the potion "spamming" in the game is REALLY done right. it doesn't ruin PVP one bit (since every class can easily outdamage potions, the potions are Heal over time + cooldows of a few seconds) and doesn't ruin the PVE. it completely removes downtime. its just sad so little people actually want to give it a fair chance. just like Lineage 2, it takes time before the game opens up. it is very obvious right from the beginning that the developers took Lineage 2, and tried (in which they, imho, succeeded) to improve it, mixed with some WoW things.

So far,it seems to be another grindfest but it's not badly done for a grindfest as such. It has FFA PvP for one thing,if not limited by L2-style 'Rogue Point' penalties. Graphics are brilliant. Community is hit and miss.

The lag really bugs me still, but it's not terrible all of the time.

I won't be buying this game but I'll sure be enjoying the limited beta time I possess. Now Gameloading, what is your damn IGN?

I guess AL holds true to MMORPG truely means:

    Mostly Males Role Playing Girls.

I wish you could pick your race as well as gender but if it's tied into the lore (probably on purpose to save time/money with models ;) ) then I suppose it's all good.
