This game is a realistic, open sandbox, historical game with deep crafting, quick and brutal 90% full on pvp. It isnt the prettiest (tho IMHO, the buildings and archetechture are some of the best in any game), and they are still adding alot of stuff in that wasnt in at launch.

This really isnt a game for everyone, espicially if you want everything handed to you and have magical blue lines to direct you to all your quests, but it is rewarding and fun if you like a challange.

I would recomend you go to their website and read up on the game.

Also, two intangables I will mention are the quality of the community playing this game and the clear vision and open commincation offered by the designers are second too none...and should be quite a contrast to what you have seen in SWG.

It's sorta the "anti-WOW".  =)  Whereas WOW focuses on making sure every player has enough direction given to them to ensure they all get the same good experience, RV is a total sandbox.

Do what you want.  Or not.

Learning the game is tough.  The Wiki is your best bet, but even there, you're lacking in specific directions.  Much of the gameplay is focused on the interaction with other players; in fact, aside from their ATITD-style crafting system, that's about all the gameplay there is.  It is a social game, really, designed for people who want to get involved in the overall community.

Playing it is a unique experience.  There's a lot of very cool aspects to the game.  The crafting is involved; the combat is all pvp, and fairly player-skill based.  The social interaction is vital, as I mentioned before.

The game is hurt a bit by the poor graphics, the rather drab looking world, and the lack of a better/more interesting method of instructing new players and getting them involved in the game.  There's some interface/control clunkiness too.  These are some solid hurdles to get over when you first start playing.

But if you do get past them, and get involved in the player drama, then it actually gets quite interesting.  Played all afternoon today and had a pretty good time.

I haven't recommended this game to any of my friends as it is the hardest game i have ever played and the graphics arent good. The playerbase is all people of ages 20+ and they are all veteran mmo gamers.

While i wouldnt recommend it to anyone, i do play it 24/7 since May.

I also find it hard to play any other mmo now that i have seen the light. They all seem naive and boring.

Not exactly accurate. There are yonger people playing this, but no younger then i would say 16 even though you thier agreement says you must be 18+ to play.

As for veteran mmo gamers that is also untrue. Alot of people have gotten this game as thier first MMO becsuse of the of lack of a monthly fee, like me.

And now after all those glowing reviews .

There are people that like the game, there are those that have not liked it at all, then there's the fanatics that cant stop playing it .  It is difficult to start out, especially if you like doing things on your own with no help.  We do have bugs, but we also fix those bugs in what I think is a pretty amazing amount of time, and dont give people the run around saying it's not a bug, it's their system.  (new patch coming tonight or tomorrow with some major bug fixes)

I dont claim we are the end all be all as far as development teams go, but I do know that once we get everything in game we have in our heads, it's going to be quite a product.  Some would argue it's already better than other MMOGs they've played, some would say it's the poorest excuse for an MMOG...but are sticking around because they know what it will become.

Make sure to take stock of the opinions on the game you find around the net.  Head to our boards and register so you can see the Participant discussion forum and see what people are complaining about and praising.  Just like any other purchase, you should make this one after doing your homework.

Was thinking about giving it a try, bored of all games out atm and sounds like the releases for Q3 n Q4 of this year arent gonna make release(atleast the non crappy clone anime games) was a big big big big big fan of Shadowbane due to PvP goodness and graphics not super important to me, so maybe see those of u who stuck with the game post release(BTW FOR ALL NEW PPL ALL MMOs HAVE CRAPPY RELEASES WHEN THEY DO LAUNCH) sick of hearing ppl complain about that, most companies can not afford to do 5 betas(cough WoW cough) its costs lots o money to keep it in development that long and alot of headache from publishers who want to start seeing a return on their investments. anyways maybe see you guys maybe not!

    peace

Do you have the quote in the agreement that says you must be 18+ to play RV?

If that was made a little more clear up front and in the forums, maybe we would have less kids trying the game, getting their asses kicked playing in the open-ended virtual world without someone to hold their hands, and then crying about it in the forums.
