pretty much all games have this, and I believe DF has it also. It's called and auction house. If you want to get some money go earn something and sell it, or if you want some equipment buy it with the money you worked for. Spending any real-life money to buy anything in game is a horrible idea and ruins the game. So what people who are rich should get better shit than everyone else simply because they are richer? This is how real-life is already and we don't need it in a game. A game is where you go to get out of reality, and where most others are on an equal playing field as you. The people who are pro-gold selling need to grow up and actually have fun playing the game and enjoy it for what it is and not think that they need the best to have fun. The idea's the OP used to support his argument are completely ridiculous in saying that he hates how he needs to be the highest level or have the best gear to have fun in a game. If you do then you are missing the entire point of the game. One of the funnest things to most real gamers is building up their characters so they are the best and not having someone else do the work for them and they step in at the end like they did it all themself.
I honestly hope, for the OP's sake, that he is messing around and being the typical troll and not serious because if he is he needs to get a life.....
you think your idea of fun applies to everyone. some people have lots of fun spending "real life" money on "virtual" items. the idea of giving everyone the option to sell their stuff would get rid of the gold farmers by turning everyone into one.
the good thing about darkfall would be if someone uses all their "real life" money to buy stuff you have the chance of killing them and taking what they bought. which you can do in "real life" but might get you into trouble. still it sounds like a fun game to me.
Gold farming has ruined most of the current MMOs available. Gold Farmers should realise that many MMOers are fed up with them and I imagine that a lot of future DF players were attracted by Darkfalls game mechanics that will give farmers (and gold buyers) a very hard time.
I really dont think that farmers will make it in DF, and will move to games where they can farm in peace.

That depends if gold has value. A great recent example is WAR which has an extreely devalued currency. As a result, there are little to no gold spammers in the game.
The full loot system isnt even the farmers biggest problem here How will the farmer farm in the first place? It looks like DF mobs will have the strongest AI ever seen in a MMO, and even when you kill a mob, it wont respawn at the same location. Oh and when a mob kills you, they full loot you too
The big thing here is, lilke was stated above, is how much gold (or whatever they call it) is worth. If they can make money off of it, it is worth the trouble and there will be gold farmers. There is always a way to do it and no real way to stop it.

If it means I get to have more fun, then yes- absolutely.
I spend hundreds of dollars upgrading computer parts, buying miniatures, video games, going out to eat, and movies. MMORPG's are an incredibly cheap form of entertainment. Not only do they provide an innumerable number of hours of entertainment- but they do so at the incredibly dirt cheap price of $15 a month.
MMORPG gold is no different. In most games, you can buy $10 worth of gold/plat that'll be more than you'll ever need. If i love crafting, but I hate grinding for money to up my crafting skill, I'll buy gold.
If I love PvP, but i hate grinding for money to get good gear, I'll buy gold.
If I REALLY like PvP, I might just buy gold solely to always have the most elite, hardcore items in the game- always. The tradeoff is rarely very much. At most you pay twice what others do ($30 a month instead of $15) and have double the power, quadrouple the freetime (no grinding, no struggling, no begging) and a hundred times more fun and less hours wasted grinding. This being a full loot game, it might be different. Also, a world of Open PvP might rise the price of gold compared to other MMO's. If it's not worth the money, I wont buy gold outside of rare occurances (Crafting or a need to have a burst of money in a harsh circumstance) That is... if I wont get caught. If they crack down on gold sellers like mad- I will not out of fear of being banned. Otherwise, I'll probably buy gold via a trial or mule account, and then transfer it over to my main account- or find out how to not get banned.
What people fail to realize is that the game is about fun, and if I consider it worth my money, there is no reason I shouldnt buy gold. Why WORK at a game grinding with boredom for 4 hours just to play for 1 hour, when you could just pay $1 RL cash and get 8 hours worth of grinding and spend 5 hours playing the game with fun. I think people are weird who grind in MMO's for money when they could just buy gold. Some people work at jobs that pay over $20 an hour, yet refuse to pay $1 to spare themselves 3 hours of boring grinding. That makes no sense. If I was a lawyer or businessman who made over $100 an hour, I'd do nothing BUT buy gold- maybe even powerlevel's too (costing hundreds of dollars) if it would mean I get to PLAY the game instead of WORKING to play the game. Games like DAoC, you want to get to lvl 50 ASAP so you can compete in PvP. Lvl's 1-50 are a boring grind that no one wants to do. This would make total sense to buy a PL to 50, then pay RL $$ to buy a template. If your time is worth over $100 an hour, why in hell would you spend 40+ hours a week grinding just so you can (after a week or two) PLAY the game? I'm not saying Darkfall is like DAoC or other type games, but I am saying that PLAYING the game is what I want to do. Anything that is boring that I "must" do is a waste of my valuable time, and if I can pay literally only $1 to $3 to not waste my life doing something boring, then I will, so I can PLAY and have FUN. Because it's all about the FUN
MMO's are not for you then, go play a FPS where you don't "need" to grind money...that's the PvP you want.
Any true MMO gamer would not become a gold buyer, they would find time to go grind for money and have fun doing so chating with there guild on downtime.
So stop wasting your money on gold farmers, they our only low lifes that hack and cheat then make money off fools like you, do somthing nice with your money next time you feel the need to buy gold or pl...DONATE IT!
I seriously wonder what would happen if MMOs switched to a system where currency couldnt be transfered between players unless done via a banking terminal or auction house (auction house having the ability to throw up red flags if someone posts a Rat Whisker for 2000 gold when its just a useless vendor fodder item, thus locking the sale)
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Personally, I haven't ever had the need to spend more money to play than the monthly charge. It's a game, remember? If a person can't play a game within the context of the game, and within the ToS, then why are they playing at all? To win a pissing contest? LMAO, not for me, sorry.
Even if AV stated that it was perfectly ok to do so, I simply wouldn't play DF.
Heck, I'll worry about all this when/if DF comes to the US.

Agreed.
Hell, even in UO before trammel hit it was rather easy to make a lot of cash just from vendor crafting. EQ was probably the only game that I have played where it was a little harder to make money. AO credits were easy to make, AC wasnt all that hard either. In WoW the game just hands you money at every turn.
I'll just never understand the need to buy gold in an MMO.No matter what game it is there will be some sort of grind (level grind or skill grind or faction grind) If you cant handle any form of a grind in an MMO the genre might not be the right fit for you.
I voted no as well.
There are 3 types of people in the world. 1.) Those who make things happen 2.) Those who watch things happen 3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Saying "if you dont enjoy the grind, you cant play the game." is flawed logic.
If someone finds the game fun, then they play it.
If they find ONE aspect of the game boring, but the rest fun, then they play it.
Just because you find one aspect of the game boring (the grind) doesnt mean "this game isnt for you" or "you arent a true MMOer (whatever that means)" or "you cant play our game"
If I have a solution to end the ONE boring part, then the entire game is nothing but fun for me. Whats the problem with that? None, if you take out the fact gold farmers supposedly harm the economy.
IF- the community was serious, and the developers capable- of stopping gold farming entirely- I'd be in-all and say "Yes! No gold farming ever! I wont buy!" but that wont happen. No matter what I do, there WILL be gold farmers. The economy will remain the same.
The only difference is that I can skip the ONE boring part of the video game and maximize my FUN! Ths having tons of fun. Much more fun than normal people do. Less of a waste of life because I do not play MMO's as a second life, I play them as a game to entertain myself for awhile.
Saying someone shouldn't play an MMO and should go play a FPS (an entirely different game and genre) just because they find MMO's grind to be boring, is totally illogical. People play what they find fun. If I find MMO PvP to be more fun than FPS, then I will play MMO PvP. If I find MMO grind to be boring and would have more fun skipping it- then I will skip it to have fun. I wont stop playing a game thats fun just because one part isnt fun, especially when I can skip the boring part for a reasonable price.
This isn't my fault either, it's the game developer's. If they would make a game with 0 boring elements and no boring grind- I would never buy gold. Why would I? Every aspect of the game is fun- so I wouldnt need to. I buy gold SOLELY because I dont want to grind boringly for hours getting the gold I need when I could pay $1 for an entire month's worth of gold. If the game wasnt a grind in the first place, there wouldnt be such a big problem.
It's not my fault MMO developers cant make a game without a grind or timesink. Whenever they do, it'll be as big as hit as WoW- maybe even bigger. Until then- grind is boring, timesinks are a waste of time, and its the developers fault for having timesinks and grinding in there instead of making the game........FUN! (In that area, as the game is played so it is fun in other areas)
Even if you dont agree with buying gold- you can at least look at my viewpoint and how illogical it is to say "You cant play the game! Go play a FPS game!"
Look at it with these eyes: "The reason people play games is to have fun."
If fun is the key...you can see my viewpoint, even if you disagree.
you are just a complete loser if you think buying gold is in any way a viable way to play the game.
I am a loser because I dont treat an MMO like a second life, and instead treat it like a video game, and want to maximize my enjoyment hours instead of wasting my life grinding pointlessly to obtain virtual items that have no real meaning? So... I'm a loser because I want to have FUN, not waste my time?
But I sincerely hope you do so that when you buy your nice gear everyone can come take it from you and trash it for the simple fact that it came from being bought.
First... that's the point. I want to buy gold because I can buy equipment. I buy equipment because I lose equipment. I want to spend all my time PLAYING the game, not wasting my time.
Second, no one ... and I mean NO ONE, is going to trash anyone's gear, even if they know the person buys from gold farmers. They instead will use it or horde it.
And yea, while grinding levels may be boring a) there is no fucking levels ya fuck, and
I never said there were levels in darkfall. I've been following darkfall since at least 2003. If I stated anything about levels, it was in reference to another game. But... just to prove a point... grinding levels and grinding skill levels is the EXACT SAME THING. You kill mobs to gain experience to raise your Weapon level from 1 to 100.
b) the whole point in playing a game is to progress your character and not step in with maxed out abilities, wtf fun is in that?
First... What does buying gold, items, and equipment have anything to do with skipping character progression? I never said I was going to Powerlevel in Darkfall, only that I would if I were a Lawyer and played games like DAoc. I never said Darkfall was DAoC.
Second... Darkfall's #1 boasted attribute both from the player's desires and the developer's intentions- is PvP. This means that the whole point of the game is NOT character progression, but in fact closer to capping your stats and skills ASAP so you can PvP. Darkfall actually has an incredibly large and sensible reason of why you would want to powerlevel- especially if all you wanted to do was PvP and not progress.
I honestly hope you do tho because you will obviously have no idea how to play your character
I have been playing MMO's since UO and EQ. I have played every single MMO, and in PvP I am usually one of the top ranking in Player Skill- regardless if it's an FPS or an MMO. I dont have that much experience in RTS games, but in FPS and MMO's, I do. I not only know how to play my character, but I will learn faster than most people, progress faster, play more, and thus have more experience (thus player skill) than most.
and it would be great enjoyment to see you getting ganked over and over for being such an ass.
To assume someone sucks solely because they buy gold is entirely illogical.
I dont know why you are raging so vehemently at me, hoping I will be repeatedly ganked in the game, but it's okay. For whatever [real, other] reason you're angry, I accept your apology and dont hold it against you.
There is no defending your point on this. Buying gold is the most lamest thing anyone could ever do. You shouldn't have better shit than other people just because you have more money in real life. Everyone needs to be on an equal playing field and this disrupts that whole system. You can feed me all the bullshit you want dude but honestly, you are a complete asshole if you think that buying gold is a logical way to play the game. And buying levels? that is the fucking pussy way out dude seriously. I honestly do hope that you do buy gold so that your account can get banned. Ask any real gamer if buying gold is the decent way to play a game. I mean I understand not liking the grind, but if you don't like to grind THEN DON"T PLAY THE GODDAMN GAME. It is supposed to take time and dedication to build up your character, not come in at the end after some company has done all the work, thats the definition of newb imo. And if you consider it work to play a game and advance your character like everyone else does, then you are a complete asshole. I mean it is a game, it is supposed to be fun. So do what everyone else does and find some friends and go hang out and kill some shit to advance your character.
And yes, buying your character and gold does imply that you suck. Because if you were any good you would do it yourself. I have seen many people like you who buy accounts and gold and get all this nice shit and high levels, but then when they play they have no idea what they are doing because they didn't level the character themself so they have no idea how it is supposed to be played.
This is the last post I'll make here to try to talk some sense into someone who apparently has none. There are much more intelligent conversations to be had with better people than to sit here and have you tell me your bullshit reasons as to why buying gold and levels is a good thing. But hey if it works for you then do it, and like I said let us get your name because when you step in with all that leet gear and have no idea how to play your character because you didn't even play the game yourself, I will be dying to take it from you, oh and the gold too.
And have fun blasting away at me with your ill concieved rants about this ridiculous subject because, in essence, you are trashing most of the community because everyone except you and maybe a couple of your buddies find buying gold and levels noob shit done by people who shouldnt even be playing the game in the first place.
"I have been playing MMO's since UO and EQ. "
also this is the most simple minded statement I have ever heard. What makes you think you are so much better than everyone else? I can tell you right now, someone who played the game to progress their own character is gonna mop the floor with someone like you who steps in at the end after someone else does all the work. I started years ago just as yourself. And if you have been playign that long you should know by now that buying gold is shunned by basically every hardcore gamer out there as you claim to be. How is it satisfying logging on to see all the shit you have the you didn't earn? You have GOT to be one of those rich kids who was handed everything their entire life. Because people who actually work for a living and have real responsiblities know what a complete waste of time and money this is. I'd much rather buy my daughter an extra x-mas present than give my money to those asshole gold farmers.
And I am sorry about the WoT but I am very adamant about this subject because gold farmers and people who think like you ruin the game for others. It ruins a games economy and makes the people who actually want to earn their shit not be able to afford anything. And getting shit is simple in this game, find some friends to hang out with and one of them is bound to craft, have them make you gear, why pay gold farmers to ruin a game?
i dont read al thread but imagine that you buy gold, how you receive the gold ? i mean you can buy some and then have your guild camping the goldseller so cant make the delivery :D:D
the devs need to set up a system where any player who wants to can sell gold or any other equipment to any other player. using some sort of inhouse paypal. problem almost solved.
One problem. Small maybe but... In almost every MMO out there that is against the TOS and you could get banned for it. Not that you would ever get caught...

Not if the company behind the game themselfs is behind the gold selling, account trading services..
Thats exactly what the linked site i posted is.. it stated as Station Exchange for SOE's Everquest 2, and more companys has started and starting to do it too do it with there games aswell.
although i doubt that dakfall will be part of that anyways though, but atleast the option exists if the devs take it in use.

I see two problems. One is if the economy is set up for it. I doubt DF is. And two is gold selling is gold selling whether an independent company is doing it or not. It has a major impact on the economy. Now, again, what affect it will have on DF... who knows.
The logic of "All gold buyers suck and are newbs and a-holes." is extremely flawed and illogical.
In fact.. I have NEVER bought gold or anything else before. Never. It was only recently when I have more money, less time, and more desire to have fun, not waste my life like some nerds. I wont argue it hurts the game and hurts the economy, but it will happen regardless of my choice.
Buying gold neither makes you a newb, nor an asshole. It simply makes you a person who spent more money on a game so that you can have more fun in the game than other people.
Telling someone with money to not buy something because it's unfair that the poor (or children without their own credit cards) or because "You need to EARN it." is rather immature and extremely naive of how the world works. I assume you are still a teenager mjones1052, as you stated "You shouldn't have better shit than other people just because you have more money in real life." I'm sorry son, but... welcome to the real world.
I can understand people not wanting gold farmers at all- but I do not understand their hatred for them, nor their ignorance and lack of understanding of why it can be a very positive thing. Close minded hatred is never good.
Any intelligent human being can see why someone would (and should) buy gold in some circumstances, even if those same intelligent human beings disagree and wish there were no gold sellers. One's opinion and feelings on the issue does not dictate logical and illogical, pro PvPer or sucky newb, nice guy or asshole. Buying gold in some circumstances is entirely logical, does not make someone less skilled as a player, nor does it make them a jerk. One man buying gold wont change the economy- especially when he wouldnt buy gold if the developers and community were both serious about stopping gold farming. Unfortunately, the company nor the community will care enough to stop it. No community ever has, and as long as there are gold buyers who do not believe it harms the game (I am not one of them, as I would stop at a moment's notice to chip in a SERIOUS boycott of them)
And always remember: The purpose of a game is fun. You cannot tell someone to not play the game just because they want to skip a boring part. That is as illogical, ignorant, and immature as telling someone they cannot enter a cheat code to skip past Level 5 because they find it boring and want to skip to level 6. It's their fun, and they can do as they want to enjoy that fun- skipping level 5 or not. Forcing someone to play through boring level 5 every single time they play the game is what a Fascist Dictator would do. So... you're hitler? lol jk...but you get the point.
Open your minds people. Broaden your understanding, or you will remain as ignorant fools in a world far exceeding your closed mind and limited, illogical understanding. That doesnt mean you ever have to agree. Disagree as adamently as you can and logically explain why you disagree with gold sellers- but at least admit the fair, logical, and justified conclusions of those who do not share your opinion. Dont shove your beliefs (anti-gold sale) down other people's throats with anger and hatred. Debate and share logical reasoning and understanding acceptance with an open mind.
Of course... why listen to me? I suck at all video games because I skip over boring parts.

Lol, all this diatribe to say that anyone that plays a game as the developers intended for it to be played are lifeless nerds, close-minded, fools, illogical, immature,etc...???
According to your line of reasoning, Bernard Madoff is perfectly justified because he didn't want to do the work, he just wanted to get to the "fun" part...

you think your idea of fun applies to everyone. some people have lots of fun spending "real life" money on "virtual" items. the idea of giving everyone the option to sell their stuff would get rid of the gold farmers by turning everyone into one.
the good thing about darkfall would be if someone uses all their "real life" money to buy stuff you have the chance of killing them and taking what they bought. which you can do in "real life" but might get you into trouble. still it sounds like a fun game to me.

Heck, I'll worry about all this when/if DF comes to the US.
So, I voted no.
Do I win??
DarkFall FAQ - Read then Question with Boldness
1.) Those who make things happen
2.) Those who watch things happen
3.) And those who wonder "What the %#*& just happened?!"
Your logic is flawed.
also this is the most simple minded statement I have ever heard.
BestSigEver :P
I don't think there is any reason to buy gold in this game since you can lose anything you purchase, one of the benefits imo.

I personally think 73 people will. Thread over?
