After my brief experience today, I desperately wish for a Pre-CU SWG. Man, I miss that game.

I don't know why, but I've been missing PRE-NGE SWG alot lately.  Guess I miss the great community and all the friends in game.  I miss sitting in my Ranger camps and hunting avian meat on Lok.  image

me too. If only there was a way we could all play it again soon. That would be swell.

I had 4 accounts back when. Ashame because I cannot find a mmo to hold my attention more that 2-3 months at a time since leaving swg.

I'm giving KOTOR the benefit of doubt because it is Star Wars and is something I really miss in an mmo. I will be pre-ordering and investing in a new computer when the time comes.

You are correct in every way shape and form.  Its no different than film.  Friday the 13th remake cost like 17million, cashed in like over 100million that is a perfect business model.  Unfortunately MMO's are no different.  Look at all the browser based games like Evony and crap making a crapload with cost probably not even nearing 1million.  Compare that to an AAA title and what have you got?  Games that keep short attention spans that sell perks.  Unfortunately for the "15 a month" crowd we are in agony on what is going on with the market, and until something knew comes out that can get a large amount of subscriptions we are doomed for this current mess of the genre.

get over it.  Tired of hearing people harping on this game . It was never good Pre CU, nor is it any good today.

10 more years from now I wander if we will still have people on the forums crying about pre cu.

not missing anything here, i still play pre cu.image

I'd like to see a pre-CU version of the game with updated graphics, a new engine, and all of the bugs fixed (there were plenty of them), that would be sweet :-).  Personally, I didn't mind a few Jedi running around, with all of the things that made people fearful of having them in public areas, I was ok with it.  I thought it was kind of interesting how you'd run into them fighting some creature out in the middle of no where.  I did like JTL and passenger mounts as well, so it would be cool to have those as well.  Even a post-CU version without the Jedi changes would be ok in my opinion (CU did fix a lot of things in other areas and add some nice features).

then stop coming to the vet refuge forum you troll.

no reason for you to even be here.  Dont like it then dont read it.  And yeah 10 years down the road i will still bitch till a company wakes up and makes a quality sandbox with all the features and quests content a MMO should have that SWG had.

I'd go back to it with a couple of conditions:

    - No Jedi Holo-grind. Within a few weeks the cantinas went from lively, sociable hubs to afk zombie-fests.

    - The bugs that needed to be fixed are fixed.

    - Some balancing was needed. You shouldn't be forced to have Master Doctor just so you have a hope in hell against Combat Medics.

I cannot agree with you more. I have not found any game that can begin to replicate how Pre-CU made me feel. No other game I have played has been so alive, or had the freedom to do whatever you please. Truly the best MMO ever.

Just like Michael Jackson's death was the best thing to happen to his career, the NGE was the best thing to happen to the legacy of Pre-CU SWG.

Do you miss the world of starwars or just the complex crafting sim that pre-nge was? (This is not a sarcastic question).

If you miss the world of StarWars there are many games coming out set in the starwars setting. Perhaps SW:TOR will let you live out your SW fantasies.

If you miss the complex crafting sim/open world that SWG was I think you should consider games like A Tale in the Desert. It's not sci-fi but it is heavily based on economy and crafting in communities. The server players know each other and there is a strong sense of working together and ownership.

Other games which focus on building through resources in a MMO world is games like WURM Online.

Both games are from smaller developers and wont' give you the bells and whispes of a AAA titles like from bigger development studio's, but it may satisfy you're itch to be a crafter in a crafter world.

I know Pre-NGE was 90% about crafting and socializing, and for people who enjoy that, it was a mainstream title which fed their need. Unfortunatly it also was at the whim of many many people who influenced it's future and ultimatly they felt they wanted a more action oriented game more akin to the mmo's out today. Thus died the experiment to have a mainstream crafter world sim.

I know there are indi-servers running the old engine code, and if that isn't enough for you I just don't think you're going to find a mainstream crafter sim MMO any time soon. These MMO's just aren't the sort of games most dev studio's aim at making.

I still have fun on swg.  yes it needs a massive revamp but it's star wars.  STAR WARS!  swtor is made for the barney generation that only had episodes 123 to reference.  That's about as starwars as the new indiana jones movie was real indiana jones.

I don't expect I'll see many SWG vets and Bioware has pretty much said they don't want them anywhere near their game,  which is kinda of a shame. I think though if more SWG vets distanced themselves with the really over the top things like the Rodoreport and MMOfringe they wouldn’t be viewed as so …out there for lack of a better term.

Oh really? Where did Bioware "pretty much say they dont want SWG vets near their game"? They want all Star Wars fans near their game. I dont recall them alienating any potential playerbase... wouldnt that would be kind of...hmmmm, STUPID?

SWG pre cu ...yes ! but not hosted by $OE, they intelectual dwarfes for to host such a vision like the Star Wars universe. They should host pong or something thats big enough of a "iconic" game for them..

SWG pre cu needs a hoster with values and not a shoddy mentality like them of thieves ..some company with a big vision.

-We finally WON !!!! 2011 $OE accepted that they have been fired 2005 by the playerbase and closed down ridiculous NGE !!

If SWTOR was attracting the same players who whine and cry over Pre-CU.... wouldn't that by default mean that SWTOR would have to be completely lame and doomed to failure?

I am not certain that even if you got it back, that it would be half as good as you remember... I shouldn't admit this but I tried UO emu's that were supposedly the early version of UO prior to the Dawn 3D expansion (which I hated) and the nostalgia was better than reality.

Nothing has beaten pre-CU SWG for me. I desperately cling on to the fact that SOME game will replicate it in the future. I want my CM/Carb back :(

Think this is what made the game so good regardless some of it's buggy features.

Unfortunaly that community is no more or have found other games to enjoy.

A game like pre-cu SWG in what ever form simply won't work these day's due to the new majority who will be louder then those of us niche players, and as with almost every MMORPG ever developed, developers listen to who'm can be the loudest, I mean havn't we learned anything as to why the NGE came, sure WoW played a factor, but for the most part those who left early and whined about just about anything that we the players who actually played the game enjoyed.

People really forgot the whines towards us players to play the Sims if we enjoy housing, or the "Oh man Jedi is too hard" or travel time is to long, Oh man so many professions.....I could go on and on about what people where saying during hte pre-cu era on the forums, SOE unfortunaly listened and as said saw how well WoW was doing, and yes it backfired on them, but I still largely blame those whiners and not SOE, SOE just tried to do what any healthy company would try to do.

Those day's are gone because we are not the majority anymore, just a minority that is kinda left out in this genre tody, though few attempts are and will be made by indy-game houses but doubt a A-title is willing to cater to the minority....unfortunaly

sadly i have to agree.. kind of reminds me of the babylon 5 thing, 'it was the best of times, and it was the worst of times' kind of thing.  but... if they ever did a pre-cu server.. i'd be right back there lining myself up for some more grief i guess...

Sony ruined pre-CU SWG, by doing one simple thing.

Letting Jedi out of the box.

When the game was close to release, they said that there would only be two people in the entire galaxy within the game that would have 'Jedi' abilites, Vader and the Emperor.

Sounded fair to me, because we all knew before game release that if they put Jedi into the game, everyone would want to be a Jedi.

By opening that Pandora's Box so quickly after release, SOE ensured themselves that they would have no time to work on anything else.  Nothing else in the game got fixed, because resources got allocated to Jedi, Jedi, Jedi.

That is why the CU happened.

    And the NGE.

All for one class in the game that never should have been in the game.

The original SWG attracted a certain type of player, one who could appreciate the game for what it was.  Now, in the NGE, you see either die hard veterans who managed to adapt, or newer younger quick-gratification schmucks.

The original game was ahead of its time.  In terms of all the different things you can do in an MMORPG, it's still ahead of its time.  And one single decision to allow an alpha class to spring forth within the game too soon ruined everything.

Im amazed no-one has picked this up as it's right on the money.

EVERYONE bawls about the combat upgrade, but the discovery of how to unlock Jedi was what decimated SWG. SWG was screwed well before the CU.

Cantinas went from thriving, bustling fun-filled social outlets to AFK grind zones. Cantinas were the real heart and soul of SWG, the AFK grind decimated this.

Suddenly almost everyone was grinding careers for no other reason than to get that visit from the annoying old bastard.

The other misnoma is that it was a player/group of players who discovered this *BZZZ* wrong, it was leaked by an SOE admin to his buddies on one of the US servers, eventually the knowledge spread then some numpty coughed it onto the main forums claiming he discovered it.

I honestly think many people who cry about the CU never even played SWG, just jumping on the whine bandwagon for sh*ts and giggles.

Pre-CU? No thanks. Pre-Jedi grind? Yes please!

Expresso gave me a Hearthstone beta key.....I'm so happy :)
