Gremrod asked for players to cast their opinions here, yes. The problem I see is that some decided to go into zealot mode and started abusing the system here which we do not condone. Mmorpg.com is obliged to investigate any such claims and I hope they will see that Gremrods request still falls under fair use. I just wish they were just as eager to update game information like the update to the screenshot gallery we've been asking for since August.

Its because they know game is comming out SOON

so now they can squeeze money out of you

    just wait and see

wonder if CCP payed MMORPG:com off to keep this game under a carpet, they know its gonna take HUGE chunk of eves population

thats what they said about Star Trek Online too....how did that work out?

Now, using multiple accounts is not cool, maybe it is cultural, but it is pretty universal, that we give, even casual things like this, a one vote one person treatment.

But encouraging people to vote? So what? Would anyone vote positively is they didn't feel that way, because a GM or Dev told them to? BS

I've looked at this game now purely because of this banning of hype and have to say it's very good. It reminds me of mech commander for those old enough to remember. Used to love playing that on M player (taken over by gamespy). If it wasn't for all this banning discussion I probably wouldn't have noticed this.

Banning has always been the best way to get noticed. Remember frankie goes to hollywood getting relax banned? Straight to number 1 in the charts.

Anyway, good game. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!

The player in questions was the only person to claim they are going against the MMORPG rules and even the Devs. said they didn't like the idea of it. They can't stop someone from doing it and I've know games like EVE and LOTRO to have been hyped in the same way. A group of around 10 players could hype a game 100 times easily with how easy it is to do.

The Devs. and GM's were not forcing people to hype and most player that did hype (If you read the comments) voted fairly. It's only a hype rating after all. With all things considered this game should be getting at least a 7/10. Small development team, small budget, big ideas and ambitions. It's a shame that because one player didn't get to become a GM they decided to try and ruin it for everyone by stiring the dramapot.

I hope the entire ordeal gets sorted out. I’d rather see the Hype reset rather than frozen. There is nothing to stop people hyping every game on the list to 1.0. It’s player opinion. Just need to find a better way to limit it to one vote per person.

I'm just not seeing the problem here, its just hype ratings afterall and who really cares that much?

Does anyone actually buy a MMO based on its hype rating?  If so, I've learned something new today.

Well apparently Mike locked the hype (oh he set it to 6 first) not becasue of the guy making multiple accounts

(because he knows there is no way that is going to wash in amillion years and I will straight on all those so call AAA games' forums declaring that I made multiple accounts too), but because the thread on the PO forums started out asking people to hype the game 8 or higher.

This remind me of the Runes of Magic thing and the readers choice awards lol. The runes of magic devs were blasting players with tweets, in game messages, announcements etc. Even rewarding them lol. They tried to justify it by saying that Aion put on it's website a message about the readers choice awards asking players to vote lol. Not exactly the same.

This is a bit more than saying on the games website "Hey, if you enjoy Perpetuum make sure to rate it on MMORPG.com". Asking players to help you get it to 8.0 or higher is an open invitation for multiple accounts and etc. Players tend to be zealots when it comes to their game of choice at times.

As a GM or a Dev or even just a community liaison you must always keep that in mind. Many of these players are young and you are basically exploiting their naivety and enthusiasm with a request like that.

Whether it was intentional or not I don't know, but in case it wasn't do keep this in mind for future reference.

Correct, and lesson learned. Must be very careful about the way I post things and the wording. I really did not mean for people to make multi accounts.

Thanks for the constructive input on my mistakes.

It's easy to be misunderstood. Especially on a fourm that promotes multiple accounts as a standard for gameplay. I can see where the user thought it may be helpful.

Just to clarify a little.  We are actually ok with devs encouraging their site visitors to come to MMORPG.com and have their opinion on the game be heard (or any fan site, etc).  The only reason this particular instance crossed a line (and it barely crossed the line) was the part about asking to get the score up to an 8.0 or better - this pretty much instructs how to vote (obviously voting below a score of 8.0 will not help the goal that the GM set).

We have had other developers setup contests and reward people (even with in game currency) for submitting high reviews/hypes and this is strictly forbidden and we generally take much harsher action.  In this occurence we set back all hype scores from the date of the post on the Perpetuum offiial boards and have temporarily halted hyping on this game.  We aplogize to all those who placed legit hypes in this timeframe, as you will have to re-submit your score when this is re-activated.

     Thank you. That seems reasonable.

Well, because the game tends to lean towards a multi-account game play, doesn't have anything to do with mmorpg.com multi accounts. I just don't see the leap in your logic since they are separate system/sites.

    Thanks

Sorry but how is that reasonable?

So they punish 1 game out of many that do the same thing and they punish us who bother to leave hype legitimately. The fact that he said '8 or above' as a reason is bloody retarded and more than a little bit condascending (not unlike many of the replies here). "I was going to vote a 7 but wait a minute he said vote 8 okay bob" please, how fkin thick do you think we are.

The mod team here have done nothing but confirm peoples suspisions over ad money corruption, wether it's founded or not is irrelevent at best they've been played by some sad tit on a personal crusade.

If you can't see the connection(s) perhaps GM/Mod isn't your specialty? I mean, you had to know what was going on, I've seen it talked about in chat as well and people just "lol'd" when you asked them to come to this site and hype the game up. Now a normal lol wouldn't mean anything, but when it is followed by "time to fire up the alt accounts" or something along those lines...it's kinda suspicious. even to a newcomer.

I'm sure you can search the chat logs, I haven't the time and even so, they are standard text files easily altered. It's not a leap, its just a simple observation.

You need to stop bowing to these idiots. If they want to start punishing games/members for the shortcomings of their own systems and lack of its accuracy in any form then it's them that needs to make it more robust and the problem lies with them and no one else.

If they want to take this stance it needs to be uniformly accross all games, you can't just pick one at random,... that doesn't pay ad money.

The same crap you see in every newly released game. The system runs on the basis that you will get haters hating (thats you) and fanbois faning the mean is where the system is supposed to level at for all games.

Wait are you now saying I said this in game "go hype the game up at mmorpg.com."?

If so I did not say anything in game about go hype the game up and if people are talking about firing up alts in game then it is just that. In game alts for industry, combat etc.

So I still don't get how this leads to people using multi accounts on mmorpg.com. It isn't a matter of me having a specialty for GM/Mod you are now using personal attacks to try and get your logic or observation of in game chat, about firing up alts to mean they were getting on multi alt acounts here at mmorpg.com.

Sorry, but your logic is a reach.

It sounds more like you don't like the game.

@MrW0lf: I addressed your concerns in our e-mail correspondence and Admin clarified things further above. If you find evidence of other developers abusing our hype/rating meter in a similar fashion you are more than welcome to send it along.

As for the rest of the situation, I believe the matter has been solved in a satisfactory manner for all parties involved and so I am going to go ahead and lock this thread now. Let's get on to discussing the actual game. :)
