I think a big problem with Tera, is the structure of the game itself. It s not sure if it wants to be pvp orientated or pve. On most accounts, people think of it as a pve mmo. Now alot of people are the OWPvP is amazing. No rewards but it s fun. That will boom at first, then become owned by a few guilds. Most people know this happens on most, if not all factionless MMOs. That said, I swear I read they re releaseing BGs as well. That will, in itself destroy some of the OWPvP. I know alot of people will say. no way, but it always does. I don t know, I think Tera just has a shit ton of hurdles to climb, and it s not going to make it, in the long run.
I think a lot of this is how you approach a game. Like many here, I've played almost every MMORPG since UO, have I liked them all, of course not. But I'm willing to give alll games a fair shot before proclaiming doom, and I mena fair, not aan hour or two, not getting to level 10, but playing for a decent amount of time. By that, I mean at least a month or so, shoot, you get that much time if you purchase it. Some have said this game really shines past level 20, I have yet to get past level 12, so maybe it does, maybe it doesn't, but I'm going to at least play that long to make my decision. Seemingly, I'll play Guild Wars 2, why not? Never tried it, saw a few videos, read a ton of pro's and con's on this site, but ultimately I make my own decisions for after all, it is my perception that matters, not what a poster writes, good or bad.
Yep and thats fair enough. My wife and I, and a few guildies from other games did make it past 20. We wanted to see what the fuss was about. We all, said nope, not a game our guild will even play. I think 1 of about 10 of us thought they ll try it at release. I agree give it a shot, I myself would rather, take that $60 X 2 and take the wife out for dinner, and a movie. I can undestand people liking the game, we re all different, but to me it s really nothing special, before or after level 20.
I do agree on taking the wife out, now if we could put that into a game, huh?
Only thing wrong with TERA is early questing because you have to follow the quest till you get about level 20+ then the world starts to open up and you can do more things like dungeons, instances, world bosses and bams. Everthing else in TERA is much better then any other game on the market. There has never been a better pvp game released since Lineage 2.
I went to Gamestop this morning and fully paid off my preorder for TERA. I will be playing Beserker on Valley Of Titans PVP Server and enjoying every minute of it.
You think TERA and L2 have the best pvp in an MMO, have you ever heard of DAoC? DAoC is still renowned as the best pvp game in mmo history. It still draws a crowd of 200k+ at the last i checked and still rakes in enough money to not need to go F2P. Not sure why alot of people think open world ganking is fun but it's not. Going around with your guild and killing someone whos farming is boring. Running into another guild while there taking on a BAM and whiping them with ease is BORING. Taking on a guild in RvR and beating them because your better on an even playing field, that's fun, that's what get's my blood pumping. I did OWPvP in WoW for 4 years and not once past Vanilla did my heart race. It was either me getting ganked or me ganking and it was BORING. I had more fun doing the god awful BGs then i did roaming stranglethorn or silithus looking for a brawl. I hate OWPvP for 2 reasons, it breed bad pvpers who love nothing more then an easy kill, and lowbie gankers. Lowbie gankers are the worst scum in MMO history, seeing someone 50 levels below you then deciding "oh it would be fun to camp his corpse" how can you call that fun. With OWPvP that's all that happens. I give tera 2 months before OWPvP is non-existant between high end guilds same as in L2 and WoW.
We re all different, and it seems you and I are similar. I remember back in the day of DAOC. I was running solo to a mile gate on my skald. I was meeting up with my alliance to take some keeps in Albion. I ran into a level 35 Alb near their milegate. I simply /waved and /cheer, at him/her. What fun would I have killing someone with absolutely no chance at all. I then met up with my alliance BG and took 4-5 keeps, then decided to take a relic. This was 5-6 jours of fun, not one shot killing people with absolutely no chance.

I find myself struggling to get into the game. It's gorgeous and somewhat different, but... Idk what it is. Will try some more. I'm really excited for gw2, and eq, swg, wow, lord of the rings, and swtor had all been enjoyed at the get go.

And this is exactly why newer OWPVP games tend to fail - the players. Since WoW most people seem to think that lowbie ganking IS open world PvP. Present them with a fair fight and they run away like little girls.
This is why I am quite liking the idea of how GW2 is dealing with PvP. WvW is a massive open area that anyone can play in, constantly if they want to, that is dedicated to PvP. If you dont want to PvP you dont go there. Also the way that gear and levelling is handled, you cant just grind and grind and grind for the best gear then ROFLWTFPWN anyone you come across. You actually have to play the game with skill to win.
Thats why I laugh at all the people complaining about a lack of open world PvP in any game. The only reason they want open world PvP is so that they can camp newbie areas and ruin peoples fun because they derive some perverse pleasure from this.

TERA isn't that good. It has some neat concepts but they aren't executed well. They put more time into thengraphics then they did into the combat system.
Each battle is not different. It's exactly the same. Spam the attack key use a skill animation. Monsters simply attack pretty much the same and you don't really have to dodge or anything, just spam spam spam. Dragon Nest executed combat much better, however it's graphics are lackluster. They are touting it as some great action RPG but you'd have way more fun killing mobs on Devil May Cry then you will in this. This is a good step forward for MMO's and if more games are released like this that will be great but TERA... Just not doing it. The story is by far the worst I've ever seen. I'm usually a sucker for cutscenes, but the opening cutscene in this game is so uninspiring and just plain dumb. No excitement was generated for me during it. You go from the tutorial which starts you off on the frontlines of some war. And then your riding magical flying donkeys to the main land.. I mean come on..
I'm a girl and I love cute things and bright colorful environments but this game really overdoes it.
I can't wait for The Secret World. One of the first games I don't have to dress like a prostitute in.

In this post: I got to level 5 and the monsters attacked the same. Oh nos!!! I can tell you are full of it, because BAMs, Dungeon monsters, and even Quest monsters start to attack very differently not too long after.
Fck me sideways until the cows come home. I'm getting fed up reading the same complaints about the self-rooting.
There's. a. reason. for. it.
The reason is it s stupid. In a true "action" combat game it makes no sense.
Well, "it's not stupid" it forces you to make decions and I and others like it. So i the end what it comes down to is that it's not the game for some and that's fine of course.
I think the deal with Tera is that some people just don't get it. I't not about the questing. I don't think anyone here is lining up to say "oh boy, I get to kill another 10 of X".
It's more about giving you a pretty open world (opens up more later) foes to fight and the freedom to do what you want to do much like some of the older games did.
It's not about crafting your themepark experience (though it is a themepark game) but it's about allowing enough wiggle room to head out for your own adventure, get together wit friends or maybe even a pikcup group and go fight some fun challinging huge things, pvp a bit and just interact with people in a large open wacky space.
A lot of this harkens back to our old mmo days when you just headed out and took things as they came. Many of us like this. Many of us want this and at the moment this game gives it to us.
It's also about patience and about persevering. I would bet dollars to donuts that the people who really like this game are "eye on the prize" sort of people. Doesnt' matter what gets thrown in our way, we have a goal and we are going to get there.
As opposed to people who are in it for the "here and now" and if what they are doing "here and now" isn't fun then it's not for them.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
I'll listen to criticism from people expressing an opinion. You are speaking more fact that you can get by standing in front of level 20 mobs spamming abilities. It you are a Lancer maybe, in that case as long as you keep your MP up you can block and counter attack.
Every other class can not accomplish it though. Some people love the Lancer due to it's staple tank play.
The other classes, including the other tank (Warrior) have to move, evade and counter using placement in every fight. Classes vary in how much is asked of them, each has it's own flavor.
I had a busy weekend between Tera beta and D3 beta. Tera is a pretty fun game for sure. Great graphic and interesting combat system. I played a lancer and archer to lvl 15, didn't really see any bug and game ran very well without problem. The game nav. and combat control took a while for me to adopt but nothing major. It was a good experience but I don't think I will be getting it. Maybe because I've played too many MMOs that I've burned out already. Just I cannot feel attached to this game at all. I don't have the feeling that I had for UO, EQ, FFXI, WoW, Eve and even SWTOR.
I guess games nowdays is just too easy and smiple. Death is meaningless, mobs are pulled in large groups. Pvp is more or less FPS style... Anyway, It is a good game but no depth and almost no skill required. My 5 year old daughter played an Eline priest to lvl 13 in very short order. hehe She had a blast!
Ya ya. Been Playing games since the birth of computers back in 80's... and yea played every MMO to date nearly, Tried the Tera beta.. its ok.. nothing special.. nothing bad..just ok.. I doubt anything will break the mold in the near future.

Psh, ye who doubts lol.
I bet there's a fully-voiced-dynamic-events-sandbox/themepark-hybrid-MMORPG-with-next-gen-graphics-and-FOR-REALS-FOR-REALS-action-combat somewhere waiting to be announced
It's not my cup of tea. I played it for 2 hours and it felt like every korean grindy mmo I have ever played with a slightly more dynamic combat. I am happy that it is finding a strong fanbase and wish them luck!

I dont know I am at lvl 10 and have not seen any BAM's yet and only one Boss, the mobs are very easy to kill although combat is fun. This is deftinitly a group game, solo is boring as heck in this game
Ahh that is why people say the fun does not start til lvl 20. Tera falls into that old trap of, lets make em work up to lvl 20 before we give them the fun part-the kiss of death with casual players-
I honestly think its os easy to fix idk why they don't do it. Add a mini BAM thats lvl 9 on island of dawn with a repeat, than add a lvl 15 BAM in Fey forest? i can't remember the name of the lvl 15ish area but add a BAM there and add repeat for that. Now people can farm BAM to lvl from the start and not have to wait till lvl 20. And honestly i don't think it be th at hard to add like 2 BAM in XD
I was really excited about Tera went Open Beta this weekend, until I saw that it was not possible for me to download it before the event is over...
I was really excited about Tera, but when I see that Guild Wars 2 is nearing soon without any subscription fee, I really cant find a reason why I should play a game that will be like Guild Wars 2 - with a subscription fee.
If it was Buy2Play I would deffy go for it.
Aion, SW:TOR and APB lurks to much in the background and wont do another fail-buy.

Good - less people begging for an 'I want it now' cash shop

Dont care anything about DAOC. 200K? LMAO. Lineage 2 still has over 1 Million subs. Lineage 2 was the pvp game, reason why Lineage 2's private servers was so popular before the game went Free To Play. Real Seemless Open Word PVP, Castle Sieges, Fort Seiges, Clan Wars, Duels, Arenas, Collisium and the Olympiad tourmaments to crown Heros, which are the best pvp player of each class every month. All other pvp is carebear and not real pvp. Reason why DOAC has not gone free to play is because it still would not do better then its doing right now. It is totally outdated and their are simply better free to play games out there. Lineage 2 being 1 of them.

It can be B2P if you work for it lol. Because Tera has the chrono scroll system where people can sell game time for gold (ofc they are limited on amount they can buy) so just like EVE you can buy the game and never have to pay a sub fee if you make enough money. Ofc if your playing casually this won't work so well.
