Black Desert is not like UO or any other sandbox type game that has released in the past.

    It is its own game.

If you are still interested I think I have a 7 day pass. PM me. :-)

The game is different enough from most recently successful (western) titles and offers tons of features to keep a lot of people interested for a while. A ( npc based ) merchant career, comparatively expansive trade skills and fishing, combo based combat system, guild based PvP territory control in the regular game world rather than some separated zone, etc.

The problem is, most if not all of these systems are of mediocre design and implementation at best and even each of the game's possible career paths taken separately takes some serious grind ( by today's standards ) to get anywhere. I guess the combination of these two issues cause most people not to stick around for long.

There is still some fun to be had and I didn't consider the 30 bucks I spent for the basic package ( no clue what it is priced at now ) a waste of money. Despite the rapid content expansions I have little desire to go back to the game though, it's just too much of a mess, frankly.

I played BDO and it most reminded me of Runescape. Really.

It has quite a few features but rather uninspired combat and if I wanted to grind I'd probably go play Runescape or EVE online which are better games. Yes, Runescape is a good game.

Basically this. Add completely unbalanced, gear based PvP, anyone with 24/7 to grind will more or less oneshot you and then tell you to "git gud", extremely toxic part of the community that is catered by CMs who seem to be picking forum moderators by what powerful guild they belong to and not any kind of personal quality, it is a mess created by lazy developer and incompetent publisher. Could have been a decent game in other hands.
