The blogpost calls it an online action RPG throughout, but on the store pages and descriptions in the press release it's being referred to as an MMORPG, or something that "transcends" a traditional MMORPG.

We're going to ask for some clarification here, though.

Not really surprised, but it's not sounding very MMO like. They said around a year ago that they're focusing on the Western console market and centred around single player/co-op gameplay.

This particular line from one of their past conferences also makes me think it's not a full on MMO

"The game will incorporate community elements where players can trade goods, form guilds, and attack specific dungeons. It will also feature guild versus guild combat."

Developers seem hesitant to use the term 'MMORPG' for online open world games when they're being released on console.

It sounds like what Crimson Desert is touting... single player RPG & MMORPG in one

Based on the imagery, it will probably be four player co-op.
  • slowz2secretslowz2secret Member RarePosts: 445
probably just a co-op game like genshin

What I loved about the first game was the planting and rearing animals together with all the different environments that required different crops. Then carrying those crops for sale before they deteriorated. It was the part I liked. I skirted around all the PvP areas or went through the ones that were slightly PvP and hoped I was not going to be attacked.

I wonder what 2 is like.

The video has like 7 other people fighting one of those bosses so idk. Could just be npcs in a scenario or something I guess. End of the day, its still being published by Kakao.

Problem is that video may be nothing like the real game.

I had so much fun playing AA, despite it's many flaws. The crafting, housing and trading loop was so satisfying. If I could get that, sans free farming pirates, I would be happy!

I never played AA but it seemed to have a lot of land rush sales. Is that in this game too?

How much real money to be competitive in pvp?

    WEll I was curious....

Then I saw that they decided to go with a garbage, weightless 'aCtIoN cOmBat' system :/ I do /not/ want to be flitting around like a damn hummingbird on crack.

My guess is they have pivoted and this won't be a traditional mmorpg anymore in the same way the original ArcheAge was- and until they clarify more on what the 'multiplayer' components actual are, best to assume it's a single player action game with multi-player functionality like what PA has instore for Crimson Desert.

This is part of a major shift I've been seeing in this sector of the online game industry; and it coincidently started with Genshin Impact back in 2019/2020; and in concept probably even before that with just the rise of smaller 4-player co-op experiences gaining popularity, games like Warframe & Mabinogi Heroes where the players only interacted via hubs and chatrooms are becoming more the standard model.

Whatever ArcheAge 2 was supposed to be, it'll likely be more like these aforementioned game experiences- possibly open world; but definitely NOT filled with other players, until you are sent to a specialized smaller stable instance or town hub.

We all know by now about all the drama and controversy surrounding the original Archeage: Missmanagement, land hacks, dual wield credit card meta (aka p2w)... still, no other game offered so many great experiences and rememberable moments, and I was more of a casual player. I will play Archeage Chronicles for sure.

AA as a game was great. It has a cool character class system, good combat, cool ship battles, in depth housing and ok, but empty, PvP.

The game was ruined by a P2W system... but the game itself was actually pretty good. If the new AA is an actual MMO with the same elements, it has a lot of potential. Let's just hope it isn't ruined by P2W again.
