I honestly believe herc hasnt played this game for more than 5 min total...but I am not going to respond to him any longer other than to correct his misrepresentations of the game.

I Pre-ordered the game in March, and i haven't really seen major changes to the gameplay. There are a few animals, yes, but most people stay in and around the barbarian and roman cities (Corstopitum mainly) anyway. From my point of view Roma -Victor is still in a pay-to-play open beta. There are still many bugs and errors to fix, and alot of "expected" content to upgrade or expand. Still, i see a future for this game, maybe not in the coming months, but it stands a chance of becoming a solid, fun-to-play game in maybe half a year to a year from now.

I do not expect a very large playerbase on it. But nonetheless, the existing playerbase is still the friendliest in any MMO i've played so far, and that's at least something.

By the way for those who have access to the participant forum  ,the lag and login errors are still horrible horrible.Only difference now is there is "pocket" times when it actually works reasonably but not often and random.

I should have said if it ever was as bad as you make it out to be. consider me corrected.

as for your second comment, the fist post in the participant fourm is about the lag with 2/3 of the comments so far saying things are alot better after the hardware addition...I think this one moves you up to Supa-Troll, herc....WTG

do you own shares in RB or what lol.

total hogwash and anyone with an account can testify to this.

why not wait till the game is at least playable(not gonna talk about the lack of content or boredom of the game since thats purely subjective debate).

Then advertize the game rather then try decieve people into buying it when its broken.

Well said, and I would agree but try to get a hardcore fan to admit to the fact its a unfinished early beta game that was released about 6 months or more to early and you get flamed by most(not all) who support the game.

I wanted so badly to like the game I played for the full four weeks I had the game thinking that I would never see a refund and many of the fanbois claim I never gave it a chance, didn't look hard enough for content and thats bull.  I am yet to see a NPC barb enemy patroling outside the city to kill or on the flip side a roman guard outside the city to fight.  I've heard of a random animal here or there but in 4 weeks of exploring I never saw a single one. Please don't play off the lag, I set through 5 mins worth of lag at times and thats 5 min straight, that wouldn't fly in any pay game period.

Show me a quest any quest outside of the master quest.  Show me any depth to the combat, because to me 1 to 2 hits and your dead is boring and without strategy.  Tell me how this game is full of depth, I'd honestly like to know what the hardcore player base considers to be depth.  I've played every MMO under the sun I've seen depth in some and none in others and this one doesn't have enough content to have depth IMHO.

I honestly hope that Redbedlam turns this extremely rough lump of mmo into a great game but honestly I just don't see it happening, not when there are a million mmo's more polished and actually finished that people can spend there money on.  The community in game is great but those that post on forums are blind to the games issues and try to play them off and accuse people like herc who was in beta by the way that they never played enough to get a feel for the game, that bullshit.  I see the game for what it is so please stop labeling people who speak the truth such as herc and myself as trollers, I'm trying to give a honest opinion on the state of the game right now, which is unfinished.

Word of Warning to those considering it, if it was so good, so complete, so full of depth would the forums be full of negative experiences then a couple of people defending it like their life depended on it or would it have a a fair amount on each side of the argument debating the games goods and bads.  This thread has become a giant flame warring name calling contest and that itself is a testament to the diehard fans versus everyone else mentality.

I am not trying to convince anyone to play this game...in fact, I would be much happier if you and the other whiny, shallow, shortsighted trolls left and never came back...I dont even want your stuff.

I am just not going to sit here while you try to make this into some kind of Mourning/D&L bullshit by exagerating any problems that the game has cuz your fricking woodpile collasped.

  • grinreapergrinreaper Member Posts: 507

    Trey,

Every NPC in the game offers a delivery quest.

The depth in combat comes from postioning, vigor managment, stat choices, larger tactical issues...saying it is a '1 or 2 hit game' is like saying WoW is all about the auto attack.

The kind of lag you describe seems to be a thing of the past, if this last week is any indication.

If you expected NPC barbs outside of roman cities or vice versa, you got the wrong game.

Now that the lag is addressed (which was caused by AI), they will hopfully turn back on the animals, and you will get to see them again.

Actually Trey, I see a couple of people who dont like this game (either because it just wasnt for them, or because they expected something different, dispite what RB told them) bashing it...hijacking threads even when it is someone asking an in game question (somthin even the SWG haters dont usualy do) and couple of people trying to correct them.

I'm not blind to any issues, however you are ignorant of the game and how to play it, treysmooth.  I have stated every issue that I am aware of and have not tried to downplay them in the least.  Maybe a sandbox game is not your thing, treysmooth; you cry about RV lacking preset quests or NPC content to whack on - that is not "sandbox."  RV really is a sandbox game where nearly all of the content and events are created and controlled by players; you missed that while looking for NPCs to play with, RV is a multiplayer game not a solo game.  Maybe you are not creative or imaginative enough for such an open sandbox game like RV, thus you complain of lack of content and NPCs.  Your opinion is worthless anyway; you are looking for quests and npcs in a sandbox MMOG.  The deepest game is the one that has no set path to follow, no predefined NPCs to take advantage of and beat on, one where the players can do nearly anything they choose - that must have gone over your head.

    As far as your job and poor firewood pile, you simply suck at RV.  You were not intelligent enough to figure out that you could;

    a) be de-attended by the player Magistrate and never have to make any piles ever if you choose,

    b) buy a firewood pile or pay another player to make you one - trading a very small amount of money for time spent in the game,

    c) learn construction from a player that had mastered it - enough to make your site last for nearly a week,

    d) started with max construction skill so your sites could last longer,

    e) make friends with other players or join a guild and get help with your projects - they can transfer one to you for 30 Sesterces,

    f) realize that it only takes 4 loads of firewood to complete.

If you are looking for a solo single-player, quest driven world full of predictable npcs to beat on then you are lost, treysmooth.

The only thing you are right about is that at times there is bad lag, however it is getting better; just yesturday two more servers were added to the game.

Basically, your lack of knowledge and skill in playing a sandbox game does not mean the game is poor, it means you are poor.

Ah personal attacks, the last stand for the desperate.  I actually am well aware of what it is to be a sandbox game, I'm a swg vet was there from day one.  I talk of lack of content because frankly the little content that is availiable is really not all that interesting unless you want to craft.  Yes I am aware of the be deattended, as I had it done on the Roman side til I tired of constant Barb rapes while I gathered apples and rerolled as barb.

If you remember SWG was full of npc enemies and mission terminals, this did not make it any less of a sandbox game it just gave it much needed content.  Take out the npc enemies and take out the mission terminals, add a dated graphics engine and lag from hell and you have RV.

When I bought RV I assumed there would be npc's to fight, quest outside of fetch quest and I guess I didn't do my homework because that just isn't Roma Victor.  I was never a crafter in SWG but loved the sandbox style of game.  I didn't want to build the house or guns, I wanted to browse shops, mod weapons as a slicer and do misisons figting npc enemies and on occasion fight others in pvp.

The content I describe has been in a sandbox game or two ultima online comes to mind but that doesn't make it less of a sandbox game it just makes it a sandbox game with content for other people than crafters.  Funny thing is even with mission terminals and npc enemies the big complaint about SWG was always the lack of content, yet I see Roma VIctor where unless you want to craft your SOL and I'm bashed for being misinformed.  No semp not all sandbox games have to be like Roma Victor, SWG pre NGE/CU was what I consider to be a good sandbox game.

If thats not a good enough example how bout eve where even though pvp is a central point of the game there are mission contacts that give you content such as kill these NPC's.  To me NPC enemies are a necessary to any mmo to let the players cut their teeth so to speak on the combat system and strategy without being raped by those that have been doin it for a longer period of time.  As I see it your looking at the game from a crafters point of view and maybe there is enough content for crafters but for those who don't care to take part in that tedious role, the content is less than engaging.  I don't feel like asking for npc enemies is asking too much, this is the only mmo, sandbox or not that I"ve ever played that didn't have some form or another.

I stand by my points as what you define as your ideal sandbox game is not my definitiion in the least.   As I said in a earlier post I finally got my refund and am clear of this game forever so enjoy, I'll be moving on to something better.

    Peace

Actually, "Fanboy" is a personal attack initiated by both you and treysmooth.  You are so ignorant that you call people "fanboys" in the very same sentence that you complain about personal attacks.

RV is not becoming a ghost town - this is only more negative jibberish spilling haphazardly from your slimey keyboard; RV is growing, more new players are joining and more players are staying every day.

hercules, you have more than made it clear that you do not like the game and are not capable of playing it with any enjoyment.  After communicating with you I am happy you have given up and quit, you are not the type of player I would want to have to associate with in the forums or the game.  Hopefully kids like you will always be discouraged from playing; I look forward to it.  I look forward to the day when you quit posting about a game you don't believe in or wish to play, a game that you have received a refund for and yet continue to complain about.

Not going to get into the personal ca-ca, just correct some errors.

If you remember SWG was full of npc enemies and mission terminals, this did not make it any less of a sandbox game it just gave it much needed content. You mean the mission terms that TO THIS VERY DAY dont work right and were completely broken on release?
When I bought RV I assumed there would be npc's to fight, There are...they just dont stand out in the wilderness for no apperent reason waiting to be ganked the way they did in SWG.

I guess I didn't do my homework because that just isn't Roma Victor. On this, we agree.

I don't feel like asking for npc enemies is asking too much, this is the only mmo, sandbox or not that I"ve ever played that didn't have some form or another. They are there, you just didnt go out of your way to find them (or in the case of animals, were turned off till the lag got sorted).

wait wait let me get out my curse dictonary to translate that.So where exactly are this new players that are staying ?

If the offical website is correct they are still in limited edition release(unless they decided to sell the keys freely depite not sorting out the issues).

5k keys plus the pre order(was it 1.5k?)

Keys are still avaliable and considering the mass exodus of players who bought and left i highly doubt RV is not a ghost town. You just got to log in to see it folks.

Grin and I have debated on this game and others, and I respect his opinion just as he has respected mine.  You see Semp thats how this works, Grin and I can have a discussion and he remains calm and debates points back and forth ala how a forum should work.

You on the other hand take the I'm the only one with the correct opinion, agree with me or I'll spit hate like a cobra spits venom approach, which is why Herc and I respond in the manner we do.  Your post was nothing more than a personal attack from a very small man who can't take the issues we point out in the game, that you have elevated in your mind, to your definition of perfection.  Thats fine for you but many will have the complete opposite impression of the game.

I notice you don't touch the fact that the content is limited outside of your little crafting community, nuff said.
I have nothing further to say to you Semp so save your breath.  I still never saw npc targets as I crossed the map a couple times very lost wondering looking for anyone or anything, not to say they aren't there I just didn't see them.

Grin makes a point that this is definitely not what I was looking for and there are many others just like me from SWG considering it I'm sure.  To those people read these post, consider the limited content for non crafters and think hard, before you purchase.  If all you want as a combatant is pvp with a few others(when I logged in I never saw more than maybe 10 to 15 others in game on the side I was on) then give it a try but you've been warned....

Hope to see you in COX Grin, look for me on the freedom server under Darkside of Smooth or Trey Smooth.

    Peace

You are right treysmooth, I don't respect your opinion or anything you write about RV and I will gladly point out your ignorance to others that care to read:

Its clear that you are forming your opinions on a game that you know very little about.

Its clear that you are looking for solo-player content such as quests and npcs in the wrong place; an authentic virtual world.

Roma Victor is the best and most realistic virtual world MMOG out there right now.  It's unfortunate that it is being hindered by lag and connection issues, but even if it was not, I am sure there would be many kids like treysmooth and hercules foolishly looking for their single-player content within a highly dynamic and authentic virtual world MMOG.

For players looking for a realistic sandbox world, Roma Victor is it.

  • treysmoothtreysmooth Member UncommonPosts: 648
First I'm 28 and run my own computer business, and have for 5 years, read not a child.  Second I'm not looking for single player content, i'm looking for content in general for those not interested in crafting.  Third I spent 3 weeks trying to like the game and looking for the non crafting content, and no I don't consider fetch quest dynamic non crafter quest.

You seem to think that it would lack that authentic feel if you for example had a barb tribe a distance away from the roman cities that were npc.  These NPC's could have routines written for them that would be true to the time and would be enemies for groups of Romans to attack to practice their skills on.  On the flip side there could be roman settlements with NPC's outside of the player cities that could work the same way for the barbs.  You could recieve mission from the master saying that said village attacked a high ranking persons son or something such as that and you need to show them that such actvities shall not be tolerated.  You could do these missions in groups like every other MMO has done for many years and I see nothing taken away from the authentic environment, it would simply allow non crafters to get a feel for the game.  I've proven my points you simply insult and praise the game in a never ending cycle.

If you feel the only way you can feel good about yourself is to beliittle others, no skin off my nose but don't assume all of these things because you truly do look foolish when you do.  I don't have to say anymore about the game as its rating says it all, 6.6 at the moment hardly what I woudl consider a top notch anything.  Its a average attempt at a MMO with technical issues holding it back from being anything further.

    Seriously smooth,

You are wasting your time here; this is a player-driven virtual world community. Find a game focused upon npcs, monsters and non-player content rather than real people and you will probably be much happier.

(You must have also missed the daily "non crafter" player versus player raids and interacting with other fellow "non crafters")

That's one of the great things about Roma Victor, the developers are not trying to create a game that will make sense to everyone; many will not get it.  As a result, it will be a diamond for those of us that do get it.
