I would say Rift is closer to Warhammer Online than Vanguard.... EQNext might be the successor of Vanguard though.

Destruction Marauder and Witch Elf is better, and Sorceror is better at AE damage, I would say Shaman is better than Archamge ( I play both Shaman and Archmage ). And I think Black Orc is better than Swordmaster too.

If you want more zones without instnaces, why not try Vanguard? Vanguard already shows massive open world isn't the key to success.

You don't need two classes to do that. Your first class can be a harvester/crafter too.

The current Vanguard isn't bad at all, for me as a slow player, it would be easier to catch up to high-end content. And while AoC might be good, I still think playing Vanguard now isn't a bad choice when you can switch to AoC after it's released.

Tank + Healer is a good choice, for when you need a full group to do some tough quests, you can shout "XXXX group looking for any class", which would be easier to get a full group.

The lack of tanks are simple. Because there are only 3 types of tank classes while 4 of others. If all classes can equally attract the same number of players, tanks still have 75% percentage of other classes.
