In ESO, I can block while dual wielding. That's enough for ESO to trump Skyrim for me.

No skill point is a waste at the beginning, atleast not if it's an active skill.
If you spend your skill points on passives you can lock yourself out pretty easily as the passives relate directly to the active skills you have.
