The closest thing I can think of being a fighter mmo are games like Blade n Soul & Age of Wushu. Both are good games, especially Blade n Soul, but have horrible Live Service systems.

If done right, and the publisher does it right I think it would be good way to go. Archeage tried something like this, but tore it to shreds with their labor point systems.
