I should have known Rattrap created this thread when I gazed upon its eerie title. The name itself "Mmorpg.com community - what happened to you ?" is typical for what you would expect of a single mother who's child turned from A+ pupil to being a crack addict with a life of crime. Its attempt to make us reminisce the "good ole days" of mmorpg.com when everyone was right and people who made negative replys were pre-teens with their finger glued to the shift key. The days when prizes were won by all, when moderators only banned people who disagreed with you and when the persons with the highest post counts were considered respected pillars of the community... Oh what days were they....
Unfortunately, they never happened. Never.
MMORPG.com was never the home of intelectual enlightenment. It was not considered the new boundry for the modern MMO debate. It was is and has always been the same Troll, fanboi infested shit hole and it will always be thus.
No Godpupet , it was not like that before you came here.Actually if there should be some finger pointing it is towards you.
Some people might call me LOTRO lover , Vanguard hater - and it is true ...i stand by my oppinions and am voicing them loudly.
This is what forums are for. You can read my posts. I did bash Vanguard much in the time it was released , and it was because i belived people were lied to , and will be tricked into buying the game and making expensive PC upgrades. As for LOTRO you can read my posts, stating that it is not the greatest game, but it is a good game to play right now, a good reasonable investment.
But you GODPUPPET , you came to this forums to troll. You never made a positive post about any game.
And if opportunity arrises you will personally attack posters, regardles of what they are saying.
You my friend are the TROLL that came here because this forums became popular.
You GODPUPPET , you GHOUL31 , i am pointing my finger at you , and i am sure everyone agrees - among few others you are the ones that bring this community down.
And who does not belive it , can easily check your posts.
I just wish you find some other forums to TROLL on. Because you obviously do not care about MMORPG games Before I came? So what your saying is, on the day of 12/06/05 the forums began a radical change that transformed it into the mess that it is today? Rattrap you are incredibly proficient at talking nonsense, I read these forums well before I made this account and it was EXACTLY the same.
We are all entitled to be open with our opinions, but you also have to accept that not everyone is mature enough to respect them, you can recieve flak for posting. This isnt something unique to a WoW player teen infested forum, this is something unique to imature humans of absolutely any age. You try making debate with your work colleages, without a doubt you will find somebody who resorts to personal attacks.
Being called a Troll doesnt offend me, if it did, I wouldnt have it as a satire in my public note. In my eyes, being a Troll is not a noun, its an adjective. Everyone Trolls from time to time, ive seen everyone on these forums do it, even yourself Rattrap.
I won't make a smart ass comment along the lines of "rose-colored" glasses though, although I appreciate you making my point a little clearer.
Your defensive response to an otherwise neutral comment that I made also illustrates your point. Instead of just brushing it off as an opinion voiced, you feel the need to defend yourself.
If you want to elevate the conversation then do so. Ignore those that seek to tear down, and speak to the issues that interest you. If you decide, instead, to engage in the basest conversations then you are as much a part of the problem as anyone. As they say, it takes two to tango.
You are absolutely right and I completely appologize. To explain.
I was trying to respond to your comment in a way that implied you were being a jerk without comming right out and saying, you're a jerk. Because I really don't think you're a jerk, it was just a jerky comment, so why go there? If you want to take it as me being defensive (lol?) meh... go right ahead. I've no need, want or desire to convince you otherwise. It was a comment, simple as that.
Yet again it seems that there are posts here that have been either read wrong or people are just deliberately trying to stir up trouble, It's sad... Really sad, as for me making a 'bold' statement just go and check out the official boards and compare it with this one, it's pretty much the same except these boards have "What MMORPG should I get" all over them instead of raid community invite threads.
Quoting people doesn't make you clever, in fact, it makes you all the more stupid for not bothering to read the quotes you post in the first place.
Yes , Shae ... i am starting to notice this. Ans also that most of good old posters (like you) are not posting anymore.
Well, just to be clear. I don't post here much anymore because of two main reasons.
1) The community literally hates itself. I've been part of other communities where when poeple log on in the morning, they are actually happy to see each other and are kind to each, show respect and gerenally enjoy having conversations with each other. Here... I've been called bitch, dyke, fat lesbian feminist, newbie, carebear, to many comments on my writting/grammar to even count.
2) Favoritism. I have no problem with a community manager that wants to lay down the law, a line needs to be drawn somewhere but when people are clearly doing nothing but being hostile and it's ignored, while others are banned for being honest after contributing in a huge way to the site. It just makes no sense. Why work to be part of a community when it's run by people who have no interest in investing in those that actually make it a community.

"Before this battle is over all the world will know that few...stood against many." - King Leonidas
Its always been this way. These forums have never changed. Before Vanguard we have had disapointments such as Star Wars Galaxies, before that we had disapointments like Matrix Online, Ryzom, and arguably EQ2, heck to many here WoW is a disapointment. What we have seen each and every time is a bunch of fanbois screaming "THIS GAME IS GREAT" and in response a bunch of haters saying "NO IT SUCKS" and in the midst of it all you have a few trolls yelling "LAWL". NOTHING has changed.
These are the facts, folks.
QFT.
To add a quote from Ghandi:
You must be the change you wish to see in the world.
I've always been a bit of a snarky smart ass, to be sure. And I'm not alone, and frankly, it wasn't much of a problem until around the time WoW/EQ2 hit the scene. Suddenly we were flooded with the sarcastically impaired. And for some reason there was also a major shift in the amount of vitriol here at that time, as well
Up until EQ2, I never really got to the point where I wanted to just reach through the monitor and beat the crap outta some of the people here.
To be sure, some of it is nothing new, going back as far as my time on local bbs's back in the 2400 baud days of ProCom+. But the ferocity with which the EQ2 fanbois lashed out at those of us that spoke out against the game was way beyond the norm, and while it hasn't gotten worse, per se, it has expanded into other games. Some of this is just growing pains from our little MMO nerd clique hitting the "mainstream". And some of it is cynicism, apathy and jadedness/boredom from some that have just been there, played that one time to many being met with overreactions from fans for game X.
Then there's people like the OP that seem to just like pouring fuel on fires to garner attention. Making flamebait thread titles, then questioning why you got flamed is pretty foolish. And of course, the tools that can't be arsed to do more than read a thread title, and make a knee jerk post in reaction.
Gameloading's post about PvP being removed from games for being to dangerous comes to mind as a prime example of people not reading more than the title of a thread.
Since when this community turned so bitter and agressive ?
Is there no possibility to write even a most simple post on this forums withouth being attacked with no reason at all ?
Since when this forums turned into bunch of people that post here just to insult everyone and everything.
I mean i can understand bashing a game you dont like , or even criticising a certain playstyle or guild, or company.
But today it seem people just go into various forum posts and write hateful angry messages unrelated to anything.
I have respect for many of posters on this site...but it seems most of them have given up. There is just to much random hate ...
I really hope this is not the end of mmorpg.com community
It's always been like this but the diffrence between then and now is more people.

If you think this place is "going downhill," you need to see whats happening off-da-interweb. Worry about other shit going downhill, like Iraq for example.
It's not the community, it's the games. Every few months we wait for a new MMO, and what do we get? Yet another WoW clone. The industry is rising, but what are the real fans losing? You should be asking the developers this question, not the community. Some of us are tired of waiting.
ps: Oh and if you take anything said over the internet seriously, than I really do feel sorry for you.
an angel dies everytime the koreans put out another WoW knockoff.
I agree with the post script also. It's an internet forum, not a debate. What do you honestly expect to happen on a forum? Civility? Jesus, forums are pretty much anonymous and the worst thing that can happen to you is being banned. Expect the worst, be suprised when people are actually nice.

MMORPG.com community has been on a downhill slide for over a year now. It's one of the main reasons I don't post nearly as often as I once did.
Currently Playing: Dungeons and Dragons Online.
