World of Warcraft - Not on top MMO's list?

I noticed that World of Warcraft isn't on the top mmo's list for this site... I find that pretty funny.... It seems that the "underground" RPG fans HATE wow with a passion. The hardcore EQ boys and girls... the Hardcore D&D fans...
I guess the point of this post is to ask, why so much hate. Sure some don't like it... thats fine. But the fact that it has the most active accounts and players EVER for an MMO and the fact that it brought the whole MMORPG idea to mainstream gaming....
I will agree or say one thing... I think WoW helped to KILL the quality of mmo's these days. No one has the money or funding to produce something as "grand" as blizzard has. So everything looks cheap and clunky when compared

Well WoW is getting less fun for most players. The game is just getting a bit too boring for people. The graphics are indeed Cartoony but they are still good. Now don't get me wrong, WoW is great, It's just not the type of game for everyone.

it may have the most players, but it is far from being the best MMO, or the worst. Regardless of its size i consider it more of a balanced mmo, held back by the things that make it WoW.
I think it is because most of the people who post on this site are not the main stream crowd. I could be wrong but that's what I can gather. Plus the fact that WoW has many elements from many mmos, but non of these elements are really focused. This can be seen as a pro and a con because it has alot to offer for many people, but for some who want certain aspects of it to be great it falls short.
I played WoW for about 2 years and recently retired because hitting level 70 pretty much killed the game for me completely. I had absolutely no desire to raid, pvp, 5 man instance, or craft. I especially had no desire to rep grind. All I found myself really doing was hanging around town and socializing with friends/guildies/and the occasional stranger, but this game does not have the most social community. So naturally I just left when I found nothing else to do. That's my thought on the subject although I could be completely wrong.
you're right. most never heard of this site. they are too focussed on getting to level 70 and getting their flying mount and going on raids

WOW is the Mc'D's of the MMO world. Its easy and made for the masses for the most part and if you do it to much you end up getting bored of it.
But really it was something that came at the right time from the right people and drew on the popularity of blizz's previous games and fans. And then it was learned that it was a MMO that appealed to the crowds that didnt want to waste away thier lives grinding and raiding and those that wanted too could.
maybe because this site is a mmorpg fans site , regardless if its a eazy one or not and the large majority of WoW players are "WOW fans" not mmorpg fans ?
I'm quite amazed to not see any flames yet. I assumed the first page of posts on this thread would be about how much wow sucks and how terrible it is and how much better "X" is.. bla bla bla
Its nice to see some balanced input and reviews. I played wow a TON... many many many 60's and a 70.. I don't think 70 killed or ruined the game... I feel that it just let the softcore casual gamers see what it was like to be geared as well as a hardcore raider...
Anyway back to the main topic... I'm just amazed that out of the millions and millions that play WoW... those huge numbers of players weren't able to push wow into the top list of MMO's here... but like the guy said I think that community is different than this one. Blizzard forums are awsome. They might be full of spammers and little kids talking shit. But they're FULL none the less.
You take a game like Vanguard that (aside from other reasons) failed horribly because they took down the OFFICAL forums and communication with the community. Blizzard has had HUGE success with all of their games. And if you notice, they've had battle.net going since the start. (well Diablo/Starcraft anyway). A FREE and common communication between all players and even some of the development staff is REQUIRED for success in an online game.
Wow is a good game its just getting old thats all. I know alot of players that play alot and they say its getting more and more boring to them but they don't cancel because they don't find any other games attractive. The one thing Wow is doing really well is attracting new players. I would say atleast 1 million players quit this year. But the thing is over 1 million or more also starting playing this year so there sub numbers haven't decreased. For every one person that quits two seem to come join. So Blizzard is definetly doing something right.

That can be very true. Most WoW players are just intent on playing WoW. Not aware of anything else out there. But you'll get that in any game really. Just more people in the WoW community because its the biggest MMO at this point and time.

I play WoW and still didnt found a better MMO.. yes, I've made some breaks from WoW but still, in my opinion WoW is the best.
Now, dont you guys think it is weird that everytime some new MMO comes up, or there is something new relationed to it, it simply comes to the top of the list?
I remember when LOTR came as 1st.. sorry? A MMO that couldnt handle the servers in the pre-order opening? On top?
And currently.. EverQuest 2.. on top? Hope it's not relationed to the E3 event.. oops.. might be..
I really think someone is taking $$$ to make these ranks. pure and simple.
Well im not playing it anymore sold my account after i canceled it over expansion got him to 70 in a week then it was just login and chat box after that so it was just like before old and boring...
Id rather not play anything for a bit then to keep paying for something that was just a chat service maybe conan will peak some new interest for me but i really dont see a game out now worth 15 bucks especially wow...

WoW doesnt deserve to be in the top mmo list. Cartoony graphics and horrible gameplay sums WoW up pretty well
But why is GW in the mmo list its not even a mmo! You cant see anyone outside of town and theres no real PvP (notice I wasnt talking about the GvG).

I know a lot of people that play WoW passionately but aren't MMO's fans. They are crazy about their game, they have a lot of fun, they do it well - questing, raiding, rp'ing, arenas - and all the things related to MMOs but dont ask them about SWG, AO, EQ2 or even UO, as they are goint to stare at you puzzled.
This is the effect of the huge mainstream pop in WoW. They are just WoWers, not MMO players in a general basis.
It is a question of fangs.
WoW doesnt really have bad gameplay. It just all depends on the time that you log in. If you log in at the right time then it's perfect, you group up easily, and more people are n to help you out if you need

which is part of the reason they dont like the other mmo's they try.. its because they are fans of the game, not the genre..i think thats why WoWs numbers are so high as well, because they've drawn a large part of their players from outside the MMORPG market. The main reason its not at the top of the list is because its the list of top MMORPGs, voted on my fans of the genre who registered for this site. Not WoWers. While im the first one to admit it is a very well done game, its not made to appeal to the 1.5million of us, its made to appeal to the 5 million of them. I just hope it doesnt make devs decide to switch markets, and leave us hanging out to dry.. but there is always the chance that WoW players will develop into fans of the genre, and it will grow.
You are absolutely correct. WoW players just love the game not the genre, well most anyway. But some WoW players just don't want to start a new game and be a 'noob'. It's hard switching games after playing a game that you know well for so long. WoW is a great game. Awesome Gameplay, Good Party system, and a Great community. Sure, WoW isnt for everyone, but a lot of people love it. As long as Blizz is getting money, then its all good.

IIRC - putting all 10's in the score made your score not count? (maybe that was a total rumour) I would imagine plenty of 'WoW fans' would have put all 10's, simply becuase. meaning that their score wouldnt count. So the scores that would be included would be from the people who bothered to rate the game for what it is worth (which is all personal opinion

I think alot of ppl who play WoW has never played an mmo before... so imo their score of "10" isnt worth much so I dont really mind them not coming here to 'push' WoW to the top. No offence to anyone ofc
Everquest 1 still has about 200,000 subscribers. WoW is going to be around for decades. Do you honestly think they aren't working on the next expansion right now?? They are you can believe that. And those expansions will just keep expanding the game more and more.. t he only thing it's really missing is sieges , player built / run cities , player housing. All this stuff they can easily do in one exp pack.
and if that doesn't happen Starcraft2 will still rule the world.
I'm not really sure why anyone gives any heed to the mmorpg.com rating system, since it doesn't require much effort to rate a game and I'm sure many people don't take it seriously and just put all 10s or 0s.
WoW isnt a bad game at all, in fact it is very good for what it is, a VERY casual, user friendly, no fear MMO that anyone can jump into and have a pretty decent time.
It isnt however the greatest game ever created, most played i'll give you but not greatest.
You are right that WoW could kill MMOs, but for a different reason. Since WoW came out and went all mainstream (that is not good by the way) and made a ton of money im afraid most companies will want that money too and just make WoW clones vis being creative and creating a new/fresh game.
Hopefully some of the new games on the horizon will feed a different type of player, Conan and Warhammer look like they may have a chance but then so did Vanguard.
And WoW players do know about MMORPG.com, at least they sure did when it was the flavor of the month and sitting on the top of the game chart. Funny how now that it isnt anymore it must be because WoW players dont come to the board.
