I'm supposing either World of Starcraft or something entirely new. The latter choice I give about 0.00001% chance since Blizz isn't good with making anything new.
And for World of Starcraft....well, it's kind of obvious what Blizz wants to do now? It will be World of Warcraft in its Starcraft version, drawing all the Sci-Fi fans to them. They probably heard Bioware is aiming for a Sci-Fi MMO and plan to take that market with the same methods they used on the Fantasy MMO market.
So I am guessing (guessing is the important word) at another Lightweight, simple to play, fast-food kind of MMO, only set in a different IP.

I'm utterly perplexed as to how anyone can claim a MMO to be "next gen" unless they somehow plug us into some virtual living breathing world ala The Matrix.

WAR is coming. Look busy.
Let's hope they can bring something new to the table this time round... but you would think they would have to, or there main competitor would be themselves with WOW.
As much as I disliked WOW, it should be interesting to see what they come up with.
*fingers crossed*
/agree. probably will offer a blizzard pack to get WoW and Starcraft online for like 24.99/month, similar to SOE station pass.
Funny thing is, they will compete with themselves one way or another. I always said one of the few games that might kill off WoW would be World of Starcraft. *smirks*

Interesting topic. This new NEXT-GEN MMO as they claim will certainly spell the end of WOW if infact it is any good. Though it scares me what they feel NEXT-GEN is coming from a company which has shown no innovative talent whatsoever. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
If they have any business sense at all that's exactly what they'll do.
NCSoft are utter fools for neglecting to do this.
I don't necessarily agree that World of Starcraft will kill off World of Warcraft.
That's kinda like saying when they invented mayonnaise it would kill off demand for ketchup. Yeah, sure both are condiments but they appeal to different tastes. I also believe we have just scratched the surface of the mmo market. As gamers age and new gamers enter the market, we will see more and more people playing these games. The mmo market is not static, and there is no indication that it is dwindling, but rather increasing.
Also, there is just the point where gamers get bored with a game, no matter how good it is. At some point, I got bored with WOW. Now they have another change at getting my mmo dollars by introducing a new game.
Could be cool, never count blizzard out from making a good game. Also I would assume they would not go the kiddie style route again, and that next gen means they are attempting to reinvent the genre... At least that is what it should mean.
Two questions.
1) Why should they not go the kiddie route again? It served them well in WoW
2) What possible indication have you ever seen that Blizzard would actually, positively invent -ANYTHING-, not even talking about the genre.

This is exciting news. I dont generally like MMO's but WoW was actually fun for a year. It was the first MMO i got into and it kept me playing longer than any other game on the market. Blizzard is also known for making "epic" games that are played for decades (i.e. Diablo, Starcraft, probably WoW a little bit down the road). Not many companies are able to do that and since blizzard has just joined with Activision i think that the games they produce can only get better.
Some say they are going to make a "World of Starcraft". This would be a great idea tbh. It will probably be similar to "Star wars galaxies" (which was awesome until SOE messed it up), but it will have it's differences (hence the "next gen" claim they give). Or maybe it will be something totally unexpected and new. You never know. Activision could have thrown in some ideas that Blizzard couldnt think of. All in all, this is great news and one can only wait till they announce the real title of the game.
1) True. I assume that since they have "Opened the flood gates" so to speak, the would be better served making a more mature game, and utilizing the massive pull they achieved and fan base they have.
2) Well it was more of a hope. In reality they are very good at polishing a farmiliar genre, they are very solid game designers, but not flashy. My hope for what Next-Gen means i'm sure is different from theirs. Next gen is a very vague term and is probably in reference to computer specs.
I think next gen would be WoW with a new race, no new classes though. And all of your gear becomes worthless.
Prolly WoW 2, and kiddies who can't have enough of WoW will finally get a refresh of the old tiring game.
Anyone have any idea what the equivalent of Barrens chat would be in World of Star Craft? lol!
Almost all new MMO's claim to "next Gen" Take VG for example, it was buggy and not polished at all. The only thing next gen about it was its comp requirements.
Once the rumors were going around a few months back I half expected a StarCraft MMO. It should be interesting to see what Blizzard does.

Starcraft Online would be sweet but I wouldn't rule out a totally brand new original IP.
World of Starcraft would suck, Starcraft sucked. There are much better RTS games out there that would make better MMOs. The only game that wassome what OK was D2, minus the lack of story to the game. At least it had action. Actually all Blizzard games suck at story telling.
I am just curious how people think that Blizzard's new MMO would be troubling competition for World of Warcraft.
McDonald's sells hamburgers AND a fish sandwich, and they seem to be doing just fine.
Anyhow, I hope the new game would be something totally original, not Starcraft or Diablo.
Maybe a fast food joint MMO...
That Guild Wars 2 login screen knocked up my wife. Must be the second coming!
Interesting, will have to keep an eye out for any news. A starcraft MMO would be pretty sweet as there is a good amount of sci-fi fans out there.

Because I am one of the people claiming this, I will try to explain my reasoning:
World of Warcraft appealed to a very broad audience because of its easy to learn ways and quick leveling and basic concept. It basically drew a lot of people to the MMORPG scene that weren't there before, simply because it was Blizzard doing the thing. I know that, because I have played with quite a lot of them. Now many of the people I know are actually tired of WoW, but lack a viable option, because no other game currently out is quite the same as WoW.
If Blizzard now goes along and makes a game again, people will think along the same lines. They will hope for another WoW, just in different clothing and I could very well see Blizzard delivering just that, after all, why not? It worked fabulously once.
So, many of the current players of WoW who are grinding their 20th character up to 70 will probably be tempted by any new Blizzard MMO, simply because they expect the same kind of game again.
So much for the basic reasoning. ^^

One thing you need to remember Everyone was saying EQ2 would kill EQ1,but it did not. They said AC2 would kill AC1, but the oposite took place. Their will be Die Hard WoW fans for years to come and there is plenty of room for MMORPG games since the gaming industry is still growing:)

Just because they made wow alot this way does not mean the new game will be anything like it. Blizzard is good at challanging itself and trying to outdo what it did previously. One more thing to think about guys. Not long after Warcraft 3 was launched they announced World of warcraft, and now they have Starcraft 2 coming out ,so does this mean we will see World of Starcraft maybe in 4-5 years after Starcraft 2? lol.
I could see where a Starcraft MMO would be very good if done right. 3 entirely different beings and civilizations. Stay to the spirit of Starcraft and if they can balance the MMO with the 3 civilizations, you could have the best RvR game since DAoC. There would be space and ground combat too. If they could put the sophistication of Eve with a more personal feel then IMO Blizzard would have a winner.
