Interesting topic. This new NEXT-GEN MMO as they claim will certainly spell the end of WOW if infact it is any good. Though it scares me what they feel NEXT-GEN is coming from a company which has shown no innovative talent whatsoever. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.
I am sure Blizzard is well aware of the fact that the older a mmo gets the less subs they will have and at some point they need to plan for their furure. With the success of wow they most certainly will have another hit on their hands.
Pff..... another mmo from comapany who have make the mmo game world braindead, i hope they go bankrupt someday, so developers will make original and good mmo's for market not this wow crap again.
Hope to build full AMD system RYZEN/VEGA/AM4!!!

WOW is not crap. It's limited, yes, but that was intended, not like other MMORPGS that are limited because they are, simply put, bad. WOW is an outstanding game, one of the best the industry has ever made. If blizzard puts it's talent into a more sandbox style MMORPG, it will be really something.

Yeah I agree what you said there but keep in mind this is Blizzard, king of rehashing games and copying everyone else but hey they had success doing it so you can't fault them for it at all. I just can't see them making a new IP for their next-gen mmo. It's either going to be a SC mmo or Diablo mmo. I play games such as Guild Wars and Hellgate which both companies have former Blizzard employees and in some of their interviews they were asked why they left Blizzard. Both former employees stated that they wanted to be more innovative and do new things. Which leads me to believe they Blizzard has no intentions of doing anything drastic here. That is why I say SC mmo or Diablo.
What strikes me odd is that even if WOW is getting old they still according to Blizzard have 9 mill plus people playing the game. I mean, that is alot of people playing one game. Why would you even consider making a new mmo when your current mmo according to them is showing no signs of faultering. They even mentioned that there was still tons of things they can still add to WOW. I just think they want to be the first ones to have a next-gen mmo for bragging rights so I wouldn't expect to see anything new at all other than the fact of having better graphics and new technology addded to an old ip.

WoW is an outstanding game yes but it's NOT one of the best the MMO industry has made.
The games that are/was better: EVE-Online, Dark Age of Camelot, World War II Online, Ultima Online (pre-Trammel) & Starwars Galaxies (pre-NGE).
Of course, WoW got more subscribers but I "blame" that on the IP.
Edit: I'm hoping for an Starcraft MMO without raiding and such shit. A pure PvP game where you build destructable bases and such

I can tolerate people saying it's not the best mmo ever made but it's not even ONE of the best? You're just silly.
Personally, I hope they do make a real 3rd generation MMO and I hope they do it well. Out of every MMO company out there, they have the most resources and the best chance of actually pulling it off. The MMO genre really needs a good kick in the ass to get it jump started again. GO BLIZZARD!

Depends of course one who you're asking. Being a PvP'er I find WoW to be one of the most boring games, ever! The PvP is so bad it's not even worth mentioning (unless you like Battleground, which is a thing I despise).
Btw, I believe I forgot Planetside, haven't tried it myself but alot of people said it was fun back in the glory days.

Well how many people are still playing SC and Wacraft 3 and Diablo 2? Quite a few. There will be people who grow old in wow. They will continue to support wow till god knows when. Ever notice how they keep releasing patches for almost every game they've done. I don't think wow will be threatened by anything new. Many will still keep their wow accounts open, some will switch, a ton will return who quit wow and a ton of new customers will rush in. You cry "rehash" yet they're actually doing a new game not just a wow sequel which they could totally justify. I'd say in a couple years they will be good to go for releasing something. It'll probably be longer than that.
Also most players don't seem to mind that they copy other games since they have the highest standards in every catagory and make their games more fun than anyone elses. If you invent something but don't do it right than you deserve to get ripped off.
Just because they made wow alot this way does not mean the new game will be anything like it. Blizzard is good at challanging itself and trying to outdo what it did previously. One more thing to think about guys. Not long after Warcraft 3 was launched they announced World of warcraft, and now they have Starcraft 2 coming out ,so does this mean we will see World of Starcraft maybe in 4-5 years after Starcraft 2? lol.
LoL i loved this bit. Blizzard ahs never made anything MMO wise that could be considered a challenge. They just made a cookie cutter MMO with all the good bits and polished it till it worked. That isant challenging thats copying and Pasting.
THEN WHY AREN'T ALL THE OTHER COPYCAT MMOs PULLING IN 9 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS?
Blizzard made a great game. Just deal with it.
Hmm where to begine????
- A well known IP
- Combines Most good eliments from other MMO's
- Polished to a smooth perfection.
- Easy to play and pretty much holds your hand.
- Tels you where the bestmobs and quests are.
- Tells you how to best kill the Mobs and complete the quests.
- Simple graphics thats easy on the Processor so any computer can run it now.
- Consential PvP
- A gentle DeathPenalty.
Fact of the matter is that WoW is a well made game but in the end its simple and uncomplicated which helps it to be a well made game.

Blizzard and WoW are doing well...I have played WoW for about 2 years and recently stopped...I had a good time
I really have a hard time with the trolls I see here, on the WoW forums or elsewhere stating Blizzard/WoW is crap, nothing is innovative, its a kids's game, they are LAME, they treat their customers bad etc etc
I think these people should actually take a look in the mirror and ask themselves "I am such a great person then? By saying all these things....does it make me look tough, am I an "Not to mess with-dude"now?
Theres really too many large ego's around
Just play the game, enjoy the finer moments off it
Simply saying "Well..I have played it , but I didnt really like it" is REALLY enough...no need for walls of texts about how bad this detail or that service was
But perhaps its me , I dont tend to get vocal towards a developer/game If I dont like a game I simply move....along

Well, if Blizzard pulls this through, they'll have atleast 3 mill subscribers buying new boxes.. which means lots of money.

Well I think it is, and not only among MMORPGS. It is almost perfect in several aspects, but this is beyond the scope of this thread.

It will probably be some kind of quasi-korean grind hell game
/waits and sees
