just because someone is using windows and word, does not mean that their's is an english version. Only we americans are that fucking concieted to think everyone speaks our language, hell not everyone in OUR country speaks our lanugage, so grow up and if you are going to bitch about a game, then bitch about the game, not some poor sap that probably only knows english as his second language and was relying upon a translation program to get the grammar correct.
I mean, seriously if you all had watch ANY of the interviews, you would know that they are not that proficient in english, sheesh the things people will pick on to be assholes.
The following is a copy of just the first paragraph of an incredibly poorly written letter I received from Funcom. For your enjoyment, I've underlined the humorous and sad spelling and grammatical errors in this initial paragraph. Actually, it's not funny at all, it's pathetic.
You have been a long and thrustworthy participant in our community, and as such we would like to thank you for helping us form Age of Conan into the marvelous product it is today. The last weeks has seen some serious enhancment to the game, and with the release we will be opening several new areas and neverbefore seen content in the launch version of the game. What and where it is? You have to find out for yourself!
(For the record: This was part of an official news mailer from Funcom.)
Hey, Sparky ... while I admit that FunCom should have an English proofreader, let's realistically cut them some slack here.
They aren't an English speaking developer - that's not their fault.
..God damn, Americans are so snobby. "ITS NOT PERFECT ENGLISH, THEY DESERVE TO BURN IN HELL!"

Exactly! English is their second and in some cases third language. Their interviews even sounded like a child talking in some.
Sometimes I hate how Americans can be, and I am one.
Edit: It was prbably short sighted not to have a fluent english speaking person on their PR staff though.

Lol, can't find anything wrong with game so you take a swing at the translation?
Grow up.
At this point, I think I'd just be beating a dead horse to complain about the "game."
If we constantly allow game designers to lower our expectations, we'll get exactly what we deserve from them.
What the HELL does understanding a foreign culture and language barrier have to do with "allowing game designers" to lower our expectations?
I think Americans need to wake up and realize, not everything is like McDonalds - you can't always have it YOUR way.
Work for a gaming developer, then come back and tell me that we should be yelling at devs for 'letting us down'. Do some research, then grow up.
Whether you like the game or not, 100+ people sunk 5 years of their lives into this game to have baseless inane comments like this vomitted all over the internet.

We are a deeply intelligent people.
Yes, the blaring hypocrisy is overwhelming sometimes.
If it was something important and so poorly written you couldn't understand most parts or all of the statement i could see a problem, this is just making a mountain out of a mole hill.
Are you all seriously arguing about this? It is obviously a sign of a hastily created message on the behalf of Funcom and/or the writing of someone who should not have been writing / had too much Ambrosia him/herself. Regardless, of the many topics that I have seen develop over the 6 or so years I have been a member of this community, this is quickly becoming one of the most retarded.
On another note, this can in no way be linked to the creator being immature or not.

This is exactly the issue. If a company is going to sell, and promote/advertise a game to a region. Made for a region. The company needs to speak to it's "American consumers" you by god better speak my language. If you come to America, you are expected to learn and become fluent in our language.
I have been all over the world in military travels. I will take japan for instance. When I went to japan, do you think that I expected the Japanese locals to speak English to me? NO! I was a visitor to their country. I picked up what little Japanese I could to get by and listened and looked for body language and other things to order my food, find my way around and so on.
SO
If someone comes to America, Mexican, French-Canadian, German, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, whatever. Your damn straight they need to be picking up English. Do I expect them to speak it perfect. No i do not. When someone comes to America they should be held to the standards as Americans are when they leave the US.
On that note, if your going to market a game in a region like the US and send the customer a email. You 1. need to hire an American as your writer of such documents. 2. learn to use that little machine sitting in front of you. (computers can translate and spell check ANYTHING regardless of what language version you use) 3. quit because you suck ass at your job.
So yes when I get a letter from a gaming company, I do expect it to be in my native language if the game is a US version. I expect it to be professionally written and hold some unit of standards.
I have gotten emails from F2P Asian MMO grinders with better grammar than this one to the OP and we know their engrish not to happy.
Anyway. People's responses such as this piss me off.

As a sign of gratitude for your aid, we are pleased to offer you the in-game item used by those loyal to King Conan: The Drinking Cape. This item will allow your characters (one game account only) to free of charge demand the very sought after alcholicdrink of "Ambrosia" - free and in unlimited supplies for life! After having claimed your cape, merely find one of the kegs in the finer Inns of Hyboria and click it whilst wearing your cape to receive your drink.
To register your cape, log in to your account page by https://register.ageofconan.com clicking here and under the option "Use a Key" - enter this key:
Once this has been done, use the command "/claim" inside the game to claim your in-game items. These items work for all the characters you create on your account. Note that all in-game items are only available on full accounts, and do not work on pre-order, buddy or (later) trial accounts.
Note that this item will not be made available again at later dates - so wear it with pride!
Aren't they Norwegian? Maybe they aren't fluent in awesome like you are. Either way, quit digging for shit to complain about.

you obvioulsy do not live in Florida, where you can hardly go to a fast food resturant without finding someone who can not speak English. And while I'll expect it to be in my native language, I don't expect it to be perfect. This met that classification, it was at least understandable, which is better than I get from some customers who live in the US (who supposedly even speak some dialect of english... couldn't prove it by me, but hey).
And yes, we are the only country concieted enough to believe that everything should be in our language, that is a fact whether you want to admit it or not. Be lucky that all correspondence doesn't come in spanish, which unless it has changed, is the international business language (not english), be grateful they cared enough to try to put into our language, they didn't even need to do that.
It isn't a lowering of my expectations, because I didn't expect them to have perfect english, it was placing my expecations in that of an internation sense and not just centered around my own countries idiocies.
then at least get someone who can speak english. especially if their writing public announcements on the company's behalf -.-
Why? I've yet to hear one reason they should that isn't steeped in nationalist idiocy? Why should they add the cost? Hmmm? Are you as a subscriber willing to foot the cost of a monthly salary for someone who may have to write a couple anouncements a month? I'm not and to be quite honest, this whole argument is stupid and reeks of more immaturity than the message itself.
Have we really fallen that damn far as a society that we can't accept anything but our own point of view?
Yes, the letter was poorly written. So what? Did it impact the playablity of the game? Did it really impact your ability to enjoy the game? Did it really mess up the meaning of what was said? NO. So that is my response to hiring someone to write a couple messages a month, no.
OMG! HOLD THE PRESS! SOMEONE CALL THE DAILY BUGLE!
You'd better start clearing room for that Pulitzer. This fine piece of investigative journalism is nothing less than mind boggling. Congratulations on your find. You really proved that Funcom is immature once and for all.

How someone is willing to accept spoken english from a foreigner to not be perfect and imbued with an accent but at the same time gets all pissed off for a few misspells in an email is completely beyond me. You either accept differences or you don't, you cannot just pick whatever suits you at the moment just so you can sound so good and holy and accepting.
If a company can't take pride in something as simple as an email, how can you expect them to take pride in something much more grand?
You are making the assumption that he wasn't trying, I'm making the assumption that he was and just made some errors due to language barriers. Which assumption is right? We may never know, but based on the interviews I've heard, English is NOT their native language, even for their english rep.
I'm willing to accept some mistakes in something I know people are stepping outside of their own languages to try to communicate, it seems many others aren't.

ok, you got me there lol
It's pretty simple; professionalism. If you are going to go to another country, do business there. You are likely going to have a translator who knows their stuff. Heck even a game like Flying Lab Studios has an in-house translator so the patch notes don't get garbled. And they have nowhere near the budget FunCom does.
The following is a copy of just the first paragraph of an incredibly poorly written letter I received from Funcom. For your enjoyment, I've underlined the humorous and sad spelling and grammatical errors in this initial paragraph. Actually, it's not funny at all, it's pathetic.

You'd better start clearing room for that Pulitzer. This fine piece of investigative journalism is nothing less than mind boggling. Congratulations on your find. You really proved that Funcom is immature once and for all.
Have we really fallen that damn far as a society that we can't accept anything but our own point of view?

ok, you got me there lol
Like the OP stated, once again lowering your expectations, you'll get less than desirable results.
I have a REAL problem with what you just wrote and here is why.
Only we americans are that fucking concieted to think everyone speaks our language, hell not everyone in OUR country speaks our lanugage
Anyway. People's responses such as this piss me off.
you obvioulsy do not live in Florida, where you can hardly go to a fast food resturant without finding someone who can not speak English.

It's pretty simple; professionalism. If you are going to go to another country, do business there. You are likely going to have a translator who knows their stuff. Heck even a game like Flying Lab Studios has an in-house translator so the patch notes don't get garbled. And they have nowhere near the budget FunCom does.Mne eto nado kak zuby v zadnitse.
(For the record: This was part of an official news mailer from Funcom.)
lol, thats pretty bad
People who have to create conspiracy and hate threads to further a cause lacks in intellectual comprehension of diversity.
