You have been a long and thrustworthy participant in our community, and as such we would like to thank you for helping us form Age of Conan into the marvelous product it is today. The last weeks has seen some serious enhancment to the game, and with the release we will be opening several new areas and neverbefore seen content in the launch version of the game. What and where it is? You have to find out for yourself!

(For the record: This was part of an official news mailer from Funcom.)

Funcom is a swedish company right? People who speak english as a 2nd+ language often misspell words even in their own official statements or update messages. Has anyone played an asian MMO? You get used to misspelling real fast.

Besides, the way the funcom people talk in their news in the patcher, it sounds like they're talking more person-to-person, which is a nice breath of fresh air from the years of the attempted perfect wording.

"Sometimes, things that may or may not be true are the things a man needs to believe in the most. People are basically good. Honor, courage, virtue mean everything. Power and money, money and power mean nothing. Good always triumphs over evil. Love, True Love Never Dies."

Its not a grammar fault... more like a typo. Wich is an indication that the writer wrote the message personally. He was in a hurry because as you can understand he must respond to many more emails besides yours.
He is a Norwegian and most probably speaks at least twice as many languages as you do.
Do yuo undrstand? There... I worte tihs in a hurry. Cry me a river.

Scroll up mate, this was a mass mailer about the Drinking Cape, not a personal letter from a customer service rep. Ostensibly, thousands of folks received the same letter.

I also, note that the OP didn't reply to my post pointing out that he is lying about the newsletter just to make the game look bad so he can look good and try to say "I told you so". It is a blatant attempt like so many others I saw on the release of WoW and Lotro to discredit great launches by those games too. You will always get your jealous haters who have nothing better to do than post statements with no evidence or proof. It's the way of the internet forums.

BTW, Screenshots OP or it doesn't mean a thing. I can't believe it took 8 pages to have someone say that.image

It's from a mass mailer, mate. Lots of other folks on this forum also received the same letter about the Drinking Cape. Someone even copied the whole of their letter sans marketing code on the first page.

Hahahha, I hadn't heard about the "fill you with joy" marketing campaign. I commented about Coke's gaffe in China re: "bite the wax, tadpole," though, which is nearly as amusing.

Seriously, though, it's such a bonehead maneuver. This is not a "Korean Item Shop Game," here. This is, ostensibly, a pay per month professional release from a respectable global company. Coke and Pepsi should have known better; Funcom should have known better.

    Unprofessional, ill-conceived, and juvenile.

Well not all AoC players take every rubbish that's thrown to them and are happy. Kudos to the OP.

    Hahaha -

I just received a quick note from my friend in the industry in Oslo, Norway. In regards to the email I received, she writes:

Raaargh! I wish they would hire me, I could write their letters! -.-; Of course, the pay is bad and the hours lousy, but still...On behalf of the part of Norway with brains and a spell checker, I apologize. I SHALL NOW COMMIT SEPPUKU!

So, evidently, Norwegians do indeed own spell checkers and some of them can write coherently in English. So what's the PR person's excuse? What's Funcom's excuse for keeping them on staff? You know your game is in trouble when...

Funcom has been around for a while.  If this was a real issue this topic would be flooded with other examples of Funcom representatives butchering the English language.  The most logical way for the OP to support his post would be to find more examples of Funcom's supposed unprofessional behavior.  Since he hasn't posted any, I'll assume he's looked and hasn't found any.

Expecting perfection is 'immature'.  Expecting other countries to fully assimilate themselves into our language and culture, after decades of our Major businesses advertisements, in fact even our Presidents, failing miserably, even embarrassingly, to do the same with other languages and cultures is hypocritical.  It's mind boggling that we're to expect grammatical perfection in an email from a foreign company, yet we accept even more embarrassing failures in the execution of the English language from the representative of our entire country as a daily occurrence.

OP, you've made your point.  Why continue to beat this dead horse?

While one might expect it to be free of errors, who really gives a rats ass?... well maybe except wannabe elitist native english speaking people, who probably only speak english. Nearly all scandivians speak fluent english and their native language, and a good part of them also a third language.

I find in most cases that spell checkers or grammar checkers aren't that effective.

You sit there claiming  to be a game designer, bashing other games you do not play and never will, using your many connections to reach out to your contact in Norway just to further try to humiliate the company and they say Funcom has sh*t for honor... ;o
