I, the Guild Master of a guild with a Full Tier 1 City just got banned

Here's the original - now locked - thead on the AOC boards: http://forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php?p=511052

Me. The Guild Leader of The ßox, on Deathwisper, just got banned very quickly. Basically, a GM just sent a generic PM about exploiting, and kicked me off without answering my inquiry as to why exactly.

My guild has spent the last week hardcore grinding coin in Keshatta and pooling all coin and resources to me to get our guild city completed with all walls as of just yesterday.

I had over 60 gold in my inventory today, pooled from our guild of nearly 100 people and friends of the guild, all grinding in raids in Keshatta with us. Yet the GM still banned without a specific explanation.

The bottom line here, is that Funcom just banned me, the leader of the guild, because a lot of our enemies on the server petitioned in saying I was exploiting, duping, etcetera, and they probably looked at how far we were with the city and how much gold I still had and believed it.

GG funcom. You said that it's going to be a guild effort to do this. You said that everyone would have to pool their resources to the guild leader and architect (both me) to make the cities / sieging happen. We did that, and you banned the guild leader.

Not surprising. Other people on the server have had their gold purged and bans have been handed out very quickly to anyone with any real pooled progress.

Here's a tip funcom, learn to differentiate between Dupers/Exploiters, and people pooling their endless hours of hard work into one person.

I won't be buying this game again, and you just pissed off about 100+ very vocal people that pooled a lot of resources, time and coin to me. You've also spread a lot of negative publicity about your game for how quickly you ban and  ruin a lot of peoples pooled efforts.

I hope this is resolved soon and you get unbanned.  If not I hope you can find another game to have fun in, and am really sorry for this.  I know how much fun working as a group can be to achieve things, and being unjustly punished for it is horrible.

Good luck in whatever comes your way.

Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.

Hmm, at first glance it seems ike you were treated unfairly, but not sure we're hearing the whole story.

But if it was me, I'd have banned the whole lot of you for over-achieving,....  quit playing these games like a business/bloodsport.

Who the hell are you, and why should I care?
Congrats! You are a victim of Trollstar!

Funcom has the logs of those that exploited, I am sure you and the rest of your guild were exploiting and now your paying the price.

I hate cheaters with a passion and am glad you and your kind are being dealt with.

Suxxors mate, sorry to hear that.

I myself will not be trying AoC out, too much bad press about it. I dont mind MMO's having bad press as most do when theya re relased, but AoC is not donig the right thing I think, Lets hope fro there sake they get into gear and sort out there major issues, or they going to be another lemon MMO out there as more and more MMO's go live.

    Cheers

This can easily be taken care of. Email:    account-status@ageofconan.com

This was accidental I'm sure. Now that banks are working GL's wont have to haul around that kind of coin. Our gwahlur PVE guild just built it's teir one city tonight and i cant imagine how bad it would have been if the GL had been sacked by FC. Good luck to you, and i hope you know that they just want to protect the honest peo0ple from scammers and hackers.

bad press, if you mean WoW morons that though AoC would be as easy as that creampuff game then your right.

Most professional reviews coming out now are positive about the game.

    Here are a few

    www.1up.com/do/previewPage

    www.atomicgamer.com/article.php

    www.gametrailers.com/game/1905.html

Those are just a few sites, I would give AoC another few weeks and you will have even more major reviewers giving their impressions.

Face the fact that the people that don't like this game are a vast minority and always will be. I am playing

AoC and I love the game.

My sympathies to The Box, you guys are good players and i hope this gets taken care of quickly, just like it was for the other innocents that got banned.  If Box does decide to quit because of this, your presence with be missed.

Interview with Funcom About Recent Player Bans

    Posted: - 30.05.2008

Recently there have been several player bans in Funcom's new MMOG, Age of Conan. The player community has been asking for details as to what has happened and what players can do if they feel they have been wrongly banned. Today we were able to get the following details from Funcom Senior Customer Service & QA Manager, Mathis.

Questions by Benjamin J. de la Durantaye, Age of Conan Lead CM, Ten Ton Hammer Answers by Mathis, Senior Customer Service & QA Manager

If your innocent you have nothing to worry about. If your level headed you will understand the caution they are taking, from many many people exploiting. The game is not exactly a race.

You stole my avatar.....I cannot find that icon anywhere anymore so i'm convinced you stole it... >_>

Anyways, for one if you really have made it this far already to build a city and the such i feel you are either playing way too much (sleep and eating are good things to do), or you were in fact exploiting.  Everything you do in the game is recorded in a log and Funcom are able to view those anytime they wish seeing how in mmos theres not such thing as invasion of privacy.  Therefore i cannot help but think you are amd or a good majority of your guild are exploiting.  The logs pretty much do not lie once recorded so something in there must of not looked to good in the eyes of Funcom.  They don't just look to see that you have a lot of money they can determine why that may be through logs, but when they see major jumps of money with no source that's a sign.  I myself hate cheaters and if you are cheating/exploiting then THANK GOD they banned you.  If not i'm sorry...contact them and work out the issue.

I guess guilty till proven innocent is the policy now days.

  • Riho06Riho06 Member Posts: 431

I've been around awhile and I can say a vast majority of people who get banned deserve their punishment, the numbers just don't lie. Sorry Mr. OP.

There are already avenues that you can take to try and get back your 'legitimate' account. I for one applaud Funcom for being proactive on exploiters even though it may lead to some innocents being caught under the boot.

not exactly Guantanamo Bay though is it.

There is nothing wrong in airing on the side of caution, have to think of the bigger picture here.

Don't really care if he exploited or not personally. To me its Funcoms thought they left so many exploits in game after release. They should of tested their game better in beta.  All the exploitsmust have  carried over from beta. I don't like cheaters either but seems like Age of conan had alot exploits out of beta. If people could find all these exploits in first week and half of beta they should of been justa s easily found in beta before the release. I don't expect all exploits to be found in beta but seems like Age of Conan still had quite a number of exploits post launch.

So, should we trust you on your one-sided story?

What if you just left out that you actual did exploit some, and that resulted in that you lost all of your guild gold and city? Not saying that you did, but I have no way to knowing that, and its clear that someone bitchring about loosing the guild's gold like that, would never admit that they exploited. Take this up in the correct supply chain, i.e. send mail to Funcom, not whining on a 3rd party forum. I actual trust Funcom on these things. They got probably logs of all the action we do ingame.

If they unban you because it was a wrong doing, then I can feel a bit sorry for you, but if they do you would probably get the stuff back, and no harms done. I do also agrees on Funcom's policy that they freeze the accounts as fast as possible. If they don't, the exploited gold can be too far gone into the game that they can never track and purge it.

LoL at all the people who are quick to condemn him, nevermind the fact that lots of guild leaders have been pwned by Funcoms exploiter finding algorithm.

Are you Tahitoa, the Moderator from the AOC boards? Can't lock here can you?

I'm not trying to contact funcom or get unbanned here. I'm trying to let the community know that Funcom will easily screw over a ton of people pooling all of their hard work to one person to forward their guild.

Guilty before proven innocent indeed. And not even that. They PERMANENTLY suspended me, I'm gone, and my guild is now twiddling their thumbs unable to access our stored resources for tier 2 and unable to make anyone leader. Can't just disband and reform and throw out that city and work.

Seriously, the funcom General forums right now look just like SWG's after the NGE hit. 99% complaints of wrongdoing and bad business, 1% praise.

This game is going down the toilet. It's one thing when you ban one person here and there that actually is exploiting. It's another when you're banning the guild leaders of a top 3 guild on the server with the FURTHEST city progression because "they must be exploiting".

  • onlinenow225onlinenow225 Member Posts: 381

So many fanbois...  Logs smogs, ive been banned from WoW for nothing. (3 day ban or somethign)  i was sent an email saying i said something i never said. ( no one knew my password)

So by saying FC has logs yea they do, but they would need exact times and dates to know when the OP was exploiting.  And if they said he was exploiting just because of having 60 coin then they just lost another person willing to try the game out.

Along with the 100 people he said were in the guild.

  • bee52bee52 Member Posts: 158

I wonder if this exploit was known about during beta? Was building even tested publically?

this type of behavior absolutely amazes me. Funcom has even announced that there are a lot of people that were dragged into this ban without exploiting and that they are trying to fix this issue.

Yet, you are so blinded to your own passionate delusions that you fail to even admit that there may be a problem.

While this individual may indeed be lying to us and indeed exploited, you took it upon yourself to accuse him without proof of his actions and also took it upon yourself to flame him.

This is why fanbois are as damaging to an MMO as a griefer is. They are so blinded, so jaded, so jealous of a game that they have no problems trolling and flaming a person because they are experiencing something that is contrary to what they are feeling.

It's a horrible state of affairs when this occurs. Rather than looking a critique and asking and suggesting for ways to increase the quality of a game, the fanboi will irrevocably destroy the very game they love as we all know the way to improve and make a game (or any other project) the best it can be is through trial and error. Through critiques and analyzation.

A fanboi can destroy the internal workings of the game faster than any professional reviewer or the liquidation of any company. Khartman2005, maybe you should think about this the next time you throw out things against a person.

    To the Original Poster:

If what you say is true, please email support@funcom.com.  Be sure to include your name, your server, and your character name.  I know of a couple players in my own guild (one of my leaders) who were banned under similiar circumstances.  After a few days of investigation it was concluded there was no evidence of exploitation on his part and he was unbanned.

There are also a couple GMs under investigation for unprofessional conduct.  If you remember the names of the GM who banned you, please be sure to include that in your email correspondance.

    Best of luck to you.

yes it was known for about 3 weeks before release to EA. Unfortunately, it was never fixed in time and the best they could do was to "deactivate" the trader first and then worry about gold and lvling xploits later.
