A magical doppelganger created from smoldering magma. Summons a Fiery Pyrilen that increases the owner's maximum hit points by up to 400 and regeneration by up to 5.
A direct stat bonus, nothing big, but a bonus none the less. Other items in loot cards increase xp for adventuring, trading and achievements by as much as 55% for the duration of the poition. Is it some huge gain on stats? No, but PVP'ers I'm sure would love to level at a 50% increased rate from their opponents.
As far as I'm concerned TCG's are irrelevant to gameplay for me. SWG's and Eq2's TCG would have no bearing on my gameplay if I played. I consider SOE's loot cards no worse or better than WOW's loot cards for their TCG, Pokemon, Magic or any other TCG out there today. New series come along all the time and old "rare" cards become less valuable to the new cards in the new expansions.
Honestly, I just don't see what the big deal is here. Gambling? Are you serious? I take it then you have been vocal against these other TCG's (Pokemon, Magic, etc) for similar practices and I'm sure if I researched I can find your protests ont heir websites right? Or is this just another attempt to just rage on SOE?
You know what would be really scary about "vets" to SOE? If you would use all that engery you seem to have to bash SOE nightly and use it positively to rally around and promote a rival MMO. Yet, some go on year after year whining and beating down and belittling any player of SOE. Honestly, no one wants this groups like this around their MMO.

Honestly Baron, if you want to see the difference between the SWG loot cards and other TCG's just read my post directly above in response to Jess. I think the differences are very clear.
Also, if you think I'm belittling other players of SOE, again see the post above in response to Jess. If you think I'm belittling current players, you're just putting words in my mouth, and you couldn't be more wrong.
You also seem to be ignoring a very basic reality. A friend of mine just had a horrible experience with the TD bank regarding an investment. She alleges that she was ripped off to the tune of about a hundred grand. She tells everyone she meets that TD is not a bank you want to do business with. Why does she do that? Because they ripped her off. Do other banks rip off their customers? Probably, but she didn't get ripped off by those banks, she got ripped off by TD. So she talks about the bank that ripped her off. Do I give her a hard time because she's not on some kind of global campaign to stop all unethical practices in every bank? Of course not. I just listen to her, say, wow that sucks and thanks for the tip, I won't deal with TD.
I'm not on a global campaign regarding online TCG's. I just happen to follow the development of SWG because I was a long-time player, and I just happen to keep an eye on SOE because they ripped me (and a lot of other people) off. If I notice something about SWG that doesn't seem consumer friendly, I comment on it. It's really that simple.
As for other games not welcoming customers like this. I think you'll find that other games are highly populated by customers like this. Millions of us play and contribute positively to the online communities we are apart of. I post on the O-boards at City of Heroes all the time, and I co-lead a guild there. I also comment optimistically on the development of games like StarTrek online. I love StarTrek and I've had a fantastic experience with Cryptic. I think this game will be great. So, tbh, your bashing of the veteran community from SWG in general doesn't seem evidence based. Your posts are very reminiscent of SOE's approach to its players: silence them if possible when they provide accurate, negative feedback, and if you can't silence them, well then try to undermine their credibility by any means necessary, even if they're making a valid point.
P.S. when Blizzard first introduced their loot cards, I do remember an article or post entitled, "TCG loot cards, Blizzards first big mistake?" or something to that effect. I had no idea what this was about because I wasn't a longtime player of WoW and never had a bad experience with Blizzard. Apparently, someone took issue with this however, maybe that person did have a bad WoW experience (shrugs). Beats me, not my battle to fight. I do think all MMO service providers though should implement these things in an ethical manner. Again see my post to Jess, if you want to see many ways TCG's and even loot cards can be implemented without legal or possible ethical problems. Blizzard and SOE should of course be held to the same ethical standards. I let WoW players deal with WoW though, and I think that's as it should be.
To further strengthen your point, the 3 cards convertable to Collection System items are very importent to. These provide an extra chance for players to claim the rare Collection items they may need. 40% of the total population is Jedi (from a poll over a year ago) and they all crave the Sith 4/5 Waistpack Holo. Its pretty rare to most trying to loot it solo or otherwise. These provide a new chance at it and other rare Collectables. Many collectables provide, again, those in game stats. These collections are not, however, exlusivie to the TCG.
Credit farmers are already looking to the TCG loot cards as a form a currancy in dealing with the playerbase, I have heard. So, SOE may have made a blunder or smart move in dealing with the RMT situation. They are not adverse to making some coin on the third parties behalf. This is all new yet and we shall see where it goes.
My time helping players has run pretty thin, I have to say. I have met many of the "Target Audiance" and they are not like my friends in CIA. I haven't been logging in as much of late but I post on the forums often. You are correct in that I still answer questions and provide info where I can. <whispers> I even go to SOE Fan Faire and have fun . But hey, its Vegas and I don't go alone .

Heh, yes, there's a chance to get a sith 4/5 WP from that random collection item thing but considering it picks an item from every collection in the game, the chances are quite slim. Anybody looking to get those cards in hope of getting a specific collection drop needs an intervention :P

Heh, I think we almost agree for once Obraik lol. I'd take it as far as to say they need an intervention for gambling addiction though, and I'm not sure you'd take that step. I still like exchanging ideas with you. Wanna know why? Because most of the SOE defence that goes on here involves outright deception, insults or some kind of attempt to invalidate someone else's viewpoint.
I don't know how or why you do it, but you manage to stick up for SOE and SWG without lying, without insulting, and without trying to silence people or undermine their valid points. I honestly don't think they give you a lot of material to work with, and that must be a challenge (my opinion).
/tiphat buddy. I can't see myself defending SOE, even with the truth, but I have to give you credit for your methods. I also appreciate the help you provide to current players. Helping gamers have fun is always a good thing in my books.

No, I wouldn't call it a gambling addiction because here in NZ the TCG isn't considered gambling
Anyway, you and Grandam are pretty rare yourselves...most of the "anti-swg" movement also involves all those things you mentioned about the SWG supporters yet you guys prefer to engage in a proper discussion, with acknowledgment that there's different views out there...

Heh, well thx. I try to be reasonable. Sometimes I get frustrated cuz I just think SOE steps on people too much, and that bothers me.
Anyways, now that the loot cards are in the game, and people have already paid whacks of cash to get them, in some cases, it would be wrong to take them out I think. Imagine spending a hundred bucks, finally getting the podracer or buff, and then having it taken away. That would just add insult to injury.
I wish SOE didn't introduce RMT loot by chance. I think it was a crappy way to introduce new perks. Tbh I think anyone still playing this game deserves a better model of implementation. It smells like a cash grab, and I think it probably really is.
But, you can't turn back the clock, and I wouldn't want to see current players get burned. It would be somewhat helpful I suppose to just have the chance aspect of the loot cards highlighted. Right now, it seems like RMT by chance hidden in a card game. Ideally I'd still like to see this aspect of the card game made available only to well-informed adults with verifiable odds. Just my personal preference.

Well, I thought I was done...
