While I understand your point of view what I don't get is the hypocrisy of your statement. Your basically telling the OP to ignore the advertisement, but......
In an above statement you say that installing Ad Blocker + or an equivalent program will hurt this site....
Sir you can't have it both ways. There is a program that will help you avoid such advertisements. You say this will hurt the site. Fine. Then in a subsequant post you basically tell the person to avoid the advertisement and not to click on it.
You want to have it both ways and thats just not right.
Wait. Are you saying that people do not have the willpower or self-control to not click the ad, or are you saying that the mere presence of an ad that people may consider juvenile is unbearable and that it is beyond a site visitor's ability to just ignore it? I mean, it's not gore, it's not porn, it doesn't make sound. It just has the word 'nuts' in it.
Are people really that thin-skinned and weak that they need to completely remove it to avoid suffering the traumatic experience of their eyes accidentally falling upon it?

I personally don't find this ad funny at all. It's beyond lowbrow, and just down-right distasteful. If the ad had a scantily-clad commando girl in bikini/thong, and the reticule was aiming at her breasts, I'm sure there would be an uproar. But reverse-sexism seems to be accepted and regarded as funny. Trust me it's not funny, it's downright nasty and mean. Please remove the ad (or at least make it equally vulgar and have a girl get shot in the breasts in rotation to the male soldier... ACTUALLY, just remove the ad altogether, it's just distasteful and not funny).
I'm still perplexed at how such a terrible ad becomes an ad campaign. Maybe it's one of those "any publicity is good publicity angle". But seriously, at the end of the day, it will be a waste of money and may actually drivee more people away from playing the game.
I don't like the ad myself, and I have no intention of buying this game. But the ads on this site are relatively small compared to other sites. It's really not the big of deal.
Are there are plenty of nice cleavage ads to make up for it.
So...because this site needs to generate money.....any type of advertising reguardless of taste, moral tone or offensivness goes ? My suggestion is that all those who are offended go to the companys website and send them an email telling them you will not subscribe to their game and will urge your friends to boycott the game as well. Want to bet what happens after that ?Yes I believe we all have a responsibility to resist the continual assault on the degredation of our society(logging now...got a web site I have to visit).
Meh, that advertisement isn't really that annoying. Anyone remeber the one they had on here a few months ago that had sound that would play every time it popped up and then looped over and over? Christ, THAT was annoying.
"If we don't attack them, they will attack us first. So we'd better retaliate before they have a chance to strike"
Combat Arms recently achieved 2 million players, roughly right before they added the nut shot. The games been a huge success and aside from the amount of hackers the game is fun. Its a free, low graphic FPS game. Aside from the fact I see nothing worng with the ad...it takes up less than 6% of my screen. Very easy to ignore if I don't want to see it.

Lynx i did not even remotely imply that.
My point is the hypocrisy of Straddon's statements. He says its a bad thing to use Ad Blocker plus, as it will hurt the site. Then he states that we just should not click on the ad.
Ok so lets say that we are strong enough to resist the urge to click on the ad (sarcasm). The add and the 'nutshot' are still there. The basic problem of having to see the add is still there, And before you comment further, you as well as everyone else knows that they eye is INSTINCTIVELY drawn to movement, so even if your actively trying to ignore the ad your eyes will wander over to the movement from tiem to time.
What I was trying to get across was that Straddon was being a hypocrate. You can't be disproving of a feasible and legal method to avoid questionable content, when your the one who approved of said questionable content, or refuses to give people other options as to avoid said content.
These ads are aimed a certain market, most people who come to sites like MMOrpg.com tend to have grown past the point where 'nut' and 'fart' jokes are laugh out loud funny anymore.
I use to be Adam Sandler's and Will Farrell's biggest fan. I grew up though and that kind of humor just does not appeal to me anymore. Heck, when I was 7, if someone farted I was on the floor with laughter and the entire day all someone had to do was mention the name of the person who farted and I was in tears from laughing. Now it someone farts I just want to get out of the room...
I'm definitely not one to be offended by much myself - far from it. However, the advertisements that any organization chooses to show DOES represent their views and the lengths they're willing to go for revenue.
If I'm watching HGTV (yes, House Hunters kicks the shit out of most of the garbage on TV anymore), the commercial breaks are filled with ads for, *gasp*, home and garden products. You can expect to see ads from Lowes, Home Depot, or things involving home improvement, landscaping etc.. If I flip over to Comedy Central, can expect to catch ads for freecreditreport.com, girls gone wild, or some insurance ad. If I happen to leave my TV set to cartoon network when I pass out watching adult swim, I'll wake up to commercials for kid's toys. It's all about the demographic they're aiming for.
All that said, when HGTV starts filling commercial breaks with girls gone wild and Barbie spots, I sincerely doubt they can expect to keep their target viewers' attention, and they shouldn't. I'd sooner change the channel than sit through 3 minutes of feminine product or prescription medication pushing (if I want that I'll flip to LifeTime for women). The same applies here, imo. This site um, clearly caters to players of MMOs, and that pretty much covers users of all ages young and old (and everything in between - where I sit). Surely the geezers must be outnumbered by the kids, but that's no excuse to alienate those with more mature tastes. This particular ad is in particularly poor taste, enough so to proverbially "change the channel". MMORPG can't really complain when folks do so, either, because their decision was indeed to run the ad, knowing its content and potential effects.
Frankly, I doubt anyone's just appauled at the ad, but it does make a statement about the site, and does leave a bad taste in the mouths of some users. It's a turn-off, even to me at a point. If this sort of low-brow garbage is what they're pushing, is this really the site I need to visit for a gaming community? It's enough to raise complaint by quite a few so far, and that's merely the vocal minority. How many others just silently "changed the channel"?

you guys fail to notice the game the nut ad is for .. sucks... the community is worse then CS back in its hay day... i played the game.. fun until hackers join your game room then it goes down hill from there..
i personally find the ad's retarded. more so on the fact... they steal copy righted pictures for it (the ww2 guy is from the game "hells hwy") and really its in poor taste.
but im sure there are people who saw it and drooled over it, cause everyone loves cheap shots. i'd rank it up there with team killing with a knife..ect.
but mmosite i dont think has any real control what is shown in the ad's as alot of ad bars play 24/7 random ads which is why some sites get X rated ads ... (which is F#$@# funny i might add when ur on a site that has nothing to do with that)
all mmosite can do is contact the ad provider and put in a request to change it. (this is going with the assumtion that mmosite doesnt host the ad's them selves)
tho the ads dont make me want to play that hacker delight game anymore even with the nut shot add-on...
Remember, in marketing there is no such thing as bad publicity. Bad publicity only means more people are paying attention to you, which of course is the entire point of marketing to begin with. This was all an ingenious marketing strategy by the OP to get more attention for the ad. Now people who didn't even notice it before are looking for it.
By posting this message I am now contributing to their marketing campaign. You're welcome...
since I am not giving MMORPG.com money directly, I guess they will have to take it from wheever they can. I am not fond of the ad either, but I'll accept it
1. Install Firefox 2. Install Adblock plus plug in for Firefox 3. Use Firefox to browse mmorpg.com 4. No more ads.
And if everyone did that, there would be no more MMORPG.com.
We make our money on ad revenue, money allows us to continue operation. It's really that simple. I mean, it's up to you, it's your choice, but in the end that's going to be harmful to the site's ability to operate.
Then make a standard of decency for your advertisers. This is not the first time MMORPG.com members have become vocal over ads. When gold sellers were the most prominent ads and people complained the ads disappeared quickly. Time to listen to your members again and stop accepting ads which offend or seriously annoying the reader base.
Either MMORPG.com becomes proactive over ads or the readers will.
Seriously MMORPG people you are making your site look adolescent and stupid by running that crap. Seriously, I'd expect more from you.
Seiously, it's meant to be amusing. Doesn't tickle your particular fancy, that's fine, this kind of humor doesn't appeal to everyone. My advice. If you dislike the ad (which is an actual feature in Combat Arms, by the way), I would respectfully suggest that you not click on it.
Amusing? I have to make sure my young, inquisitive children aren't around. They constantly ask what EVERYTHING on the screen is and now I have to be cautious looking at MMOs.
I thought I was the only one bothered by this. Even as I write this the ad is in my periphery and is unavoidable.
To clarify, I'm not an old geezer either, I'm 18 and I still find the ad offensive. I think it's sexist and sadistic. I think it's one thing to see someone get kicked in the nuts (although my first reaction would be sympathy and disgust rather than amusement) but it's something entirely different to advertise shooting someone in the genitals as a joke.
My biggest issue with it is the sexist aspect. There is no "taco shot" or "beaver shot", simply being female is an advantage. In fact, one of the variants of the ad promotes conflict between genders, showing women as being superior.
I used to play Combat Arms, it's enjoyable and free, so why not? I can't see myself playing again after this.
Also, my usage of this site has been drastically reduced since I first saw the ad.

First: this is mmorpg.com, not mmosite.
Second: Advertisers have been asked to remove certain ads from their streams by mmorpg.com before. So yes, the site does have control of what ads are on it.
Amusing? I have to make sure my young, inquisitive children aren't around. They constantly ask what EVERYTHING on the screen is and now I have to be cautious looking at MMOs.
"What is that, Mommy?"
"Ignore that. It's a peepee joke for a stupid game."
"Ok. Hey, Mommy, what game is that you're playing?"
"[insert typical diku mmo name]"
"Why are you killing those guys?"
*laughs* Because they are different, silly! Come sit on Mommy's lap and help me level up. Now remember, whenever you see that other race, you kill it. There's one now!"
"But it's just standing there and not attacking us. Kill it?"
"Definitely. You have to kill all of them."
"Why?"
"Because they're evil."
Skeaser, consider how a child views your daily genocidal slaughterfest, and suddenly a nutshot joke isn't so bad. They see someone hit in the nuts every week on TV. Racial extermination is probably something they only see at home, as Mommy stares gleefully at her screen.

This is just crazy, I can't believe how many people are making a fuss out of this ADD. I guess people aren't as blessed to have the sense of humor I have. It makes me feel bad knowing that people don't laugh as much as I do. Thank you God for making me think nut shots are funny and most everything on this planet is funny.
Just like Lewis Black said, not quote for quote but close enough.. If you don't laugh you'll end up being like those terrorists, they have gotten so serious in life and don't take time to laugh at things, they just ended up going crazy.

Nut shot ad is the ad that finally got me to instal flashblock.
Doesn't kill every ad but the ones I want it to. After all if you can't put up with ads related to what you're browsing why are you browsing at all.
