It's not that bad. Like with animations, only /some/ are bad. The "hit" sound is bad, some of the spell sounds are a bit cheap, other sounds are quite good. The handful of bad sounds are, in my opinion, balanced by the good attention to realism for sounds in the distance. Sounds can be heard from a long way away and don't become directionally distinct until they are very close. Footsteps sounds match the ground surface, heavy armour chinks when moving, wearing light armour or putting some effort into moving stealthily makes a lot less noise and allows backstabbing, etc. I think 7.1 is fair........ not great, not terrible.
I agree the graphics are better than 6.8. It all depends how much weight you put on character models versus world and environment graphics, and then on your personal style.
Thats not a review, its more of a blog post or something. The author doesn't really show many features of the game, he kind of just talks very vaguely about it. I would say the author played DF even less then Zidron. - they had Multiplayer as a score? - They had WoW previewed with multiplayer ranked N/A? - They had Pirates of the burning sea misspeled (Priates), had a rating of 1/10 and no review. Very strange website.
However, they gave DF a "good" score. In doing so, they met the rabid fans' only qualification for a site/reviewer to be considered legit and objective.
One of the few things you can count on rabid DF fans doing reliably and consistently is contradicting themselves, spinning and applying double-standards as fast as they can type them.
The rabid DF fans' criteria has been pretty well established...
- You could play DF 100 hours or more, experience everything the game offers... If you give it a low score, your review doesn't count.
- You can play it 5 hours or less, hardly see anything the game offers.. If you give it a higher score, you're a highly reputable reviewer who knows what they're talking about and clearly played the game enough to give it a fair and objective review.
I mean, it's not like the the rabid fans even attempt to "mask" their utter and complete fanboyism for DF, Tasos and AV. They proudly wear it on their sleeves in every post.

I could say the exact same thing in reverse about people who hate the game.
It seems the only real review is one that is overly critical and bashes the game and its players.

...except you come across as even more rabid. I think almost everyone would agree that a review written by a guy who spent less than 2.5 hours in-game, with most of it in the character creator, and who gets several basic gameplay features completely wrong, is a fraud. Especially when a site like tentonhammer comes out and calls them a fraud, and now 2 more reviews score the game at 7+.

ya you always see score of people who hate the game calling out "rabid fanboys", yet truthfully I have rarely seen this. most of the time every thread turns into a cricle jerk of people hating on the game, with 1 or 2 fanboys trying to defend it.

This has been my experience too. The "haters" are much more rabid and illogical than the "fanbois". Not just this forum, all the forums on mmorpg.com.

It would be impossible to tell how long some spent in character creation, unless the coding was ridiculously shoddy, since you don't LOG in properly until you enter the game with the character. It's how every game that I've seen does it, and it would be truly laughable if this game didn't do so.
( Also, I laughed out loud at Tentonhammer... You know, that site that no one reads because all the information is either wrong or out of date? )

Yes because Tasos has never lied, and him being the target of the bad review there is no conflict of interest there whatsoever, sorry if I dont really believe him when he tries to discredit a review that is not favorable to his game.

Sorry to interrupt the nice little convo between you and Jonyak... but bullshit.
Find even *one* post by me, in all the time I've been posting here, where I'm outright "bashing" DF at all.. much less "rabidly" doing so. Just one.
You won't find one.
I have been critical of claims, lies, spin and general BS spread by some of the rabid fans here (Darth, javac, etc) and called them out on it. I have been critical of the constant spin and BS from Tasos and AV overall. However, I have never outright bashed DF.
Nice try, but that dog won't hunt.

Welcome to what I deal with in this section.
See, the fanbots know that me talking smack on Tasos can't get me banned, so they turn it into "game bashing" so be able to report me.
It's hilarious, actually. The big bad Darkfall PvPers are just scared widdle cwybabies on forums.

Just looking out for ya
As has been proven by the fact people actually believe Tasos in this section, thought is not required here. Also, it's funny how having a negative opinion of Tasos and his crew of monkeys is considered "trolling". It's funny how proving Darth, downto, and others wrong when they try to spin shit is "trolling". It's funny when showing Tasos lying in his own quotes is considered 'trolling".
In this section, anyone who doesn't kiss Tasos lilly white pockmarked ass is "trolling". Again, it's funny to me now.

I have seen very little of what you are talking about.
Can some of you get more stupid?.. this gamer mag.. ROCKS!.. nope never heard of it.. all your posts are lame.. blah blah blah..
Who cares if someone writes a review and its good or bad.. maybe they feel sorry for them so they write a nice review.. lmao yeah like that never happens.. or they just liked DarkFall.
In the end it makes no difference. They could have said 10/10.. it changes nothing.
Its funny those that stick up for nowgamer.. leave info out about them. Compared to other known mags around the WORLD. nowgamer is a no name to most...

Your whole point depends on the word of Tasos, that claims that eurogamer reviewer did log that many hours. You shouldn't rely on the word of someone who was dishonest in the past.
I dont know Zidron, I dont know how honest he is, but I will assume that he is honest until proven otherwise. On the other hand I personally witnessed the lies of Tasos/AV ( "one character per server was silently changed to one character per account" ). thats only one of the examples of AV shady business. There were/are more. Therefore, by simplest logic, if I have 1 person who is unknown to me, compared to another person who is a known liar to me - I will pick the unknown person as the more honest one.
If you want to prove your point, you must prove that Zidron is more dishonest then AV/Tasos.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

This has been my experience too. The "haters" are much more rabid and illogical than the "fanbois". Not just this forum, all the forums on mmorpg.com.
I also have to /sign this. There might have been some glass-eyed fanbois before the release but the game has been out for months now and now the "fanbois" are pretty down to earth and balanced but the trolls and haters have become even more rabid and desperate. This thread is a great example of it. A mildly positive and fairly well-written review and post after post from rabid "trollbois" trying to discredit it. You just look like children now.

Really?
I've got some observations here, I'm not trying to flame or troll, these are truthful observations and can be easily checked:
I see far more insults from javac and Darth than from anybody that dislikes the game. These guys flame for a few days and insult everyone that disagrees with them, they get a temp ban for a few days and they're right back doing it again. If you think that I'm exaggerating, watch the pattern, it's obvious what happens.
ChinaCat uses the tactic of attacking a poster's credibility by constantly going on and on about a poster's number of posts ( which is creepy at best, and smacks of borderline stalking ) as opposed to discussing the issue at hand.
Again, I'm responding to another poster's statement that I think is false and I'm using first hand observations, so if you're going to comment let's use *facts* for a change, please don't let this be flame bait, ok?
I also have to /sign this. There might have been some glass-eyed fanbois before the release but the game has been out for months now and now the "fanbois" are pretty down to earth and balanced but the trolls and haters have become even more rabid and desperate. This thread is a great example of it. A mildly positive and fairly well-written review and post after post from rabid "trollbois" trying to discredit it. You just look like children now.
I do not think people are questioning the "review" (if you can call it that). People are questioning fanbots who take that score without question, while at the same time not accepting score from similar website who just happend to have a very bad (for the game) score.
eurogamer scores low - bah, he didnt play long so his score does not count.
nowgamer scores high - praise be nowgamer!
Personally, I found zidron's review to be more detailed and much more specific. Nowgamer kinda talks about the game in general terms, not much specifics.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.

More down to earth and balanced? Here?
You sure you're reading the same forums I do? I could almost pick a thread at random here and find at least one post from one of "Devout Defenders" doing some combination of spinning, hyping or lying to defend DF, AV or Tasos.
This thread is a great example of it. A mildly positive and fairly well-written review and post after post from rabid "trollbois" trying to discredit it. You just look like children now.
Hey now.. If you're going to regard people discrediting a somewhat positive review as "children" and "trollbois", then I really hope you do the same for the rabid fans - and Tasos, in fact - who have done the same to *anyone* - reviewer or otherwise - who's dared to utter a single negative syllable about DF.
That door swings both ways.

I think everyone, execpt the trolls or feel ripped off, have bashed Eurogamer's review of DFO. Why? Because the review was not professional, listed things as facts that were wrong, and mainly complained about things that were by design not out of amature mistakes i.e. no auto looting. Even the MO fanboys said that review was biased, poorly done, and would not want that type of reviewer to review Mortal Online.
After the review, I wrote a counter review using Eurogamer's score and gave DFO a 6.5 (.5 for potential).

Guaranteed - and I would bet money on this - that even if nowgamer only spent 2.5 hours in the game - as Zitron allegedly did (again, if Tasos is to be believed.... -roll eyes-) - the fans would completely ignore that because it's a good score. You would not hear a single complaint from any of the people who were "outraged" over the eurogamer review - including Tasos. I would bet money that the usual suspects would spin like tops to make the better review somehow "different" than the eurogamer one and thus, legit.
Also remember that other reviewers - including those who gave better scores than eurogamer - and some on these forums who've played DF since launch have pointed out some of the same issues as Zitron did. The rabid fans never seem to acknowledge that, though. Also, hasn't AV actually addressed some of the things that rabid fans insisted weren't issues, and dismissed as "whining" from the "carebears" and "trolls"? Funny how they ignore that little detail as well.
But then again... wilfull ignorance is a way of life for some of the fans around here.

Especially when a site like tentonhammer comes out and calls them a fraud, and now 2 more reviews score the game at 7+.

ya you always see score of people who hate the game calling out "rabid fanboys", yet truthfully I have rarely seen this. most of the time every thread turns into a cricle jerk of people hating on the game, with 1 or 2 fanboys trying to defend it.

uh oh, I guess we are just deluded fanboys.
I had to log in just to LMFAO at this. Maximum spin! GO GO GO!

I do not think people are questioning the "review" (if you can call it that). People are questioning fanbots who take that score without question, while at the same time not accepting score from similar website who just happend to have a very bad (for the game) score.
eurogamer scores low - bah, he didnt play long so his score does not count.
nowgamer scores high - praise be nowgamer!
Personally, I found zidron's review to be more detailed and much more specific. Nowgamer kinda talks about the game in general terms, not much specifics.

I also have to /sign this. There might have been some glass-eyed fanbois before the release but the game has been out for months now and now the "fanbois" are pretty down to earth and balanced but the trolls and haters have become even more rabid and desperate.

Wow...talk about grade inflation.
A 91 to 100 was an "A" in my day.
No wonder the world is in the shape it is today.

86-92 =B
79-85=C
72-79 = Darkfall
