I realize people around here consider it "clever" to doctor someone else's post, attempting to make a "point"... However, I really prefer if you let me speak for myself, okay?
I do look at it from my side... and the other side.
When a little known website gives DF a low score, the rabid fans are up in arms, discrediting it because it wasn't a well-known site, the reviewer was obviously a care-bear who played WoW, etc. etc.
Even when it's pointed out that the "little-known" reviewer covers similar issues that had been brought up by other players and other reviewers... the fans just conveniently ignore those details.
Conversely...
When a similarly unknown website gives DF a better score... all of a sudden, those same fans have absolutely no issue with it. It's a good score, and so the reviewer is obviously a "true gamer" who is credible and knows what they're talking about.
Time and again the critics and skeptics (not the *real* trolls who bash for the sake of bashing) have pointed out specific reasons *why* they call a review or a reviewer, or anything else about the game, into question. They don't just say "oh, well it got a good score so it's obviously a crap review". They give *reasons* as to why they find the review dubious.
On the other hand, the rabid fans consistently only look at whether or not the game was given a good rating. If it's a good rating, then the review is legit, and they'll defend it as such. If it's a bad rating, then the review is crap, the reviewer's a carebear, etc. etc.
Just one example... There was a review posted some time ago in another language... Darth, after admitting he couldn't understand it, praised the review anyway. Why? Because it was a good score. That's it.
So... no, your attempt at twisting my post around to make a point doesn't hold water in this case. There are some who only bash for the sake of bashing.. but those aren't the ones I'm referring to.
Ah yes... I am sorry... I was here when these reviews came out and there was alot of what you are talking abotu on both sides.
stop painting the haters as saints because there are and were just as many if not more idiot haters as there were idiot fans... don't deny that. There were also alot fo "fanboys" who did exactly what you said they didn't do.

I'm not painting "haters as saints". Stop twisting my words around.
I highlighted a specific statement in my post... for a very specific reason. That being that I make a distinction between people who bash DF for the sake of bashing, and those who are truly critical of it, and skeptical of anything Tasos and AV says.
You choose to ignore that distinction and just lump both groups into one, labeling them all "haters". That's pretty lame, to put it mildly.
If you can't or won't debate me without twisting my words around or ignoring distinctions I point out, then you have no real argument to make and I'd prefer it if you just ignore my posts, okay?

Well there are also alot of fans who get lumped in with Fanboys who truly love the game, see its flaws and still enjoy it and defend it. they always get lumped in with the fanboys.
I don't know why you continue to post about this. I read some great advice about games in another games forum , and was thinking you might want to hear it.
"That said, at some point, the individual has to decide whether the way the game is designed is suitable to their playstyle or time constraints. If it isn't and you wouldn't be able to do what you'd like to in a given session, then perhaps the best decision is not to play. Blaming the developer for not designing the game to cater to one's individual playstyle, time-constraints, etc... and asking them to change it so it does is not only unreasonable, it's selfish."
Well there are also alot of fans who get lumped in with Fanboys who truly love the game, see its flaws and still enjoy it and defend it. they always get lumped in with the fanboys.
Please point me to some specific examples, because I can't remember seeing posts by any of the actual critics or skeptics here bashing those who enjoy the game, even while pointing out its flaws. Unless, again, you're referring to people who bash for the sake of bashing, which I, again, do not support nor defend; thus why I keep making that distinction that you seem to keep missing or ignoring.
However, I've seen plenty of people - the critics and skeptics - calling out those who claim the game is perfect and spin like tops in response to any criticism of the game... again, those are the people I'm referring to. I am referring to a very specific group of people on these forums who have demonstrated the behavior I describe time and again, for months now.
I don't know why you continue to post about this. I read some great advice about games in another games forum , and was thinking you might want to hear it.
... because you keep giving me something to respond to? Might be a reason. Just sayin'.

Err... Okay?
That's a quote from me... I'm sensing an attempt at being clever, but I think it would work better if you found a quote that's actually relevant to this topic and, more specifically, my last few posts.
I'm pointing out the contradictory and hypocritical behavior of the rabid fans around here when it comes to how they regard a review and apply a different standard, based solely on the score it's given.
What the hell does your quoted paragraph have to do with that?
Am I telling anyone to play a game that's not suitable to their playstyle? Nope. It's not even relevant.
Am I telling anyone to blame a developer for not catering to their specific playstyle, etc? Nope. It's not even relevant.
What the hell are you trying to prove? Are we even having the same discussion at this point?
May I suggest just giving up and leaving well enough alone at this point, at least where I'm concerned? You're way off in the weeds with that last response, and it seems you don't even know what you're debating anymore.

DF is not deserved of this score. A 5 is about right. How anyone can t see through this blog post is beyond me. Before I get jumped on yes I played DF since EU release till a month or so ago. I really did give the game a shot. but it s really that bad.
You played a game you didn't like for more than 3 months?????!!!
Yes, because as I said I really gave it a shot. I m not going to go one month, I feel new games need longer. It got worse IMO as time went on. The amount of people leaving the game didn t help matters either.
I agree.
I played for 3 months as well... then in my last monrh it started to get really boring, as I am the kind oif guy who likes to craft and play the market.... and there wasn't one. I felt the actual pvp gameplay ad siegeing was awesome, but I need more out of a game than pvp.
the whole having to pay for a whole new game to play on NA was what pushed me over. I canceled my account a couple minutes after they announced that.
market on US1 is awesome. Banaded sets are being sold for 800 gold a set
I'm not sure what the big deal is about having some site (ANY SITE) rate your game highly when it doesn't deserve it.
Example: This site MMORPG.com gives Warhammer Online a 8.25 rating and has been one of it's biggest "fans" since launch. This despite the plain evidence to the vast majority of gamers that this game should have been rated MUCH MUCH lower and is not fun to play after 20 levels.
They still get a 8.5 rating now and Warhammer just had another round of server closings. From opening with around over +100 servers, Warhammer is down to under 10.
That doesn't sound like a game worth a high rating. but it gets one here, lol. I think it just certain sites get paid to push certain games, or certain bosses there like a game personally so it stays high on the list.
I mean if you owned your own site where you received ad money, or were in charge of ratings or reviews and you personally liked playing "Shadowbane", wouldn't you make sure you'd do everything possible to keep it rated highly so more people would join and it doesn't fail?

Very unlikely. A more feasible theory is that most people vote for games once. When WAR came out it was ranked high, so people voted such. After awhile, the hype disappeared, people started liking it less and less. But, no1 bothered to come back and vote again. Ask yourself, how many times did you re-vote? I think the current rank is the rank it had right after release. But it has expired ever since. They need to reset/cancel old votes and keep the current ones to have an accurate ranking.
I am the type of player where I like to do everything and anything from time to time.
EU server is a under populated, but there are plenty of active EU guilds that you should be able to get into that will show you the ropes and allow you to particpate in sieges.
Im actually thinking of trying DF now after all the flaming and trolling and all round craziness on these boards over it, i really want to test it out for myself. What I want to know is im in the EU so is it worth playing on the eu servers still? Or just play on the NA server? I dont want to end up playing on the EU server and it end up being dead like Daoc and end up having to play with just germans:P Or do I have to end up playing on the US servers like in daoc and play when 90% of the population is asleep? I want proper advice, as now I have really got to the stage where I am really wanting to try the game out.
go EU - it still has more players AFAIK, and low ping is better than high.
