Come on, Tasos is a former greek adonis so give him some slack.  And just convert you heretic, you know you will. You got the tingeling feeling inside, but are to proud to change. Just do it, we need more players so we'll forgive you.

This is also true for the rest of you infidels.

I cannot be a heretic because I already bought the game, remember?

I want a good sandboxy game. However, I am very burned out by playing at release. I keep on following what's happening, and I might resub once some important things that I want come to fruition. I'd never avoid a game for pride or spite. All I want is to have fun, on my terms.

And I laughed at the Adonis bit

I was like you after the transfer fiasco.  I was not going to buy the game twice when I was led to believe I wouldn't have to.  Then AV came back with awesome news with free transfers until Dec 5.  Since being back I have been blown away with all of the improvements.

    There was never a fiasco

Almost every online MMORPG in history has had you buy the game twice for two different regions. The only thing Tasos ever said was that NA players would be "accomodated", and that they'd be allowed to transfer after 3 months. Looks like he was right again. Just another example of people failing at reading comprehension.

By far the worst part of the game back in the early days was the constant complaining from the cry baby community. Franckly I am glad those haters gone and I have no intrest in seeing them ever return.

I hope they are having fun with Hello Kitty or whatever other cool game is not out there

Subscriber only forums helped a lot. Just proves that most of the haters likely never played the game and just bashed it based off loose information gathered from forums. Hell most of the trolls probably came from this site.

    Um, why?

Do a little research about what he said during Beta and the hype days. He was condescending, flat-out arrogant and liked to blow his own horn quite a bit. Also, the public announcements during early launch were mostly revolting.

At least, for my tastes. YMMV.

I don't need to do the research. I was there. Most of the stuff he said was spot on. Most of the problems came from people taking vague words and drawing their own conclusion, then when reality didn't match their personal fantasy, they screamed "liar liar!!".

If I had to deal with the type of trolls that plagued Darkfall pre and post release, I probably wouldn't have been remotely civil.

I was also there and entirely agree with this. I'd go so far to say that people were deliberately taking the dev's posts out of context to further advance their hate for the game.

it almost drew me away from the game. Not becuase I thought they were right but becuase it was just endless hate. The community at that time was by far the worst part of the game and what we really needed was a haters go away  patch.

Some might have done that, I'm pretty sure about it. After all, warping the words of Devs is almost a religion for certain forum goers.

However, I find it surprising that you think that all his posts were clear, objective and honest. Let me grab just an example:

    "MMORPG.com:

King Manus of the Hyperion Alliance complains that players being able to stand on the heads of other players negates the possibilities of battle lines, shield walls and the like.

    Tasos Flambouras:

Standing on the heads of other players isn't very realistic, it's true, but neither is magic.

I will disagree strongly that battle lines are negated. We're seeing battle lines being used very effectively. Clans adapt and tactics evolve with what the players are able to do. This is the first MMORPG that we know about that formations are effective in combat, and where smaller, well organized groups can destroy much larger ones.

If a game mechanic gets in the way of a standard formation, then you have the freedom to modify your formation to deal with it."

His answer is evasive, strikes back at the person who asked it, is condescending and a flat-out lie (several MMOs had effective formations in combat, DAoC is an example, WAR is another). Again, this is just a single example. There are many more floating around.

Like I said, this is my personal point of view. If you guys like it, more power to you. There's no right or wrong, here (well, maybe except for the lying).

I recall that post and I think to not play a game based on that is kind  of funny actually.

    The translated statement is this.

NO, we are not going to change that, besides everything that is possible for one player is possible for others and as a result its balanced, deal with it and change your tactics

    Simple.

If that is what makes you not want to play the game I strongly suggest you not play the game and go someplace else.

Where have I said that I don't play the game simply because of that? I dislike Tasos and the way he communicates, but it wouldn't keep me from playing the game.

I don't play because of the lack of non-combat features, funneling progression and the many problems of a melee focus. If these are solved, I'd have no problem coming back.

Two things I would like to point out.

    1. Although you are not addressing what I am about to say explicitly its worth pointing out just for clarification. I really don’t think any of us (for sure myself) are really interested in having you back. We are not posting defenses of this game in hopes that you or others like yourself will ever return. Please do not take this personally becuase I know how sensitive game posters are, please understand I am just trying to say many of us are not sitting around hoping certian kinds of players return if Taso just could be nicer and/or combat adjusted

    2. If the conduct of the developers do not affect your choice to play or not play then the only reason you would care would be under the assumption that they would ever listen to your specific views in the context of the game as it might help to bring in more players. Taking that into account do you honestly think they are listening to players that have the concerns you have stated here or do you think they are a bit more proactive about who they listen to?

1 - Not even sure why would you write that. So, I'll leave it at that.

2 - I cannot say for sure what do the Devs listen. However, since we are in a forum, I think it is productive to have both sides represented. If my posts ever reach someone who might be able to objectively act on them, great. If not, the post have already done its job: to debate an issue and to present a point.

As my original post in this thread point out, I care enough to acknowledge and form a judgement, but I don't care enough to let this interfere in my decision to play or not. It might sound a little contradictory, but hey, I'm human.

Tasos is also a human so he can make some mistakes. Should i hate you because you claim you are a human, what type of race dont you hate?

Note: please do not take this wrong and I will try and limit my responses to you so you dont get upset and report me for being a big fat meany

    1. I think you know exactly why I wrote that.

    2. I think you are being delusional and somewhat living in denial. Although gamers who care a great deal how the developers scratch their a%% are the most vocal, most gamers decide what game to play based on the code that is currently in production and not what might be coming and least of all how a developers speaks to customers. Most importantly however, is that I know you have heard this a million times.

I honestly cannot say how most gamers react to X or Y, since I'm no specialist and I have no significant data to ground any arguments. Trying to find "the right answer" won't happen, because we are talking about personal preferences.

I also don't know how you can assume I live in denial, delusional or such. I have my DFO experience, no one can take that away from me or exactly reproduce it. I'll base all my choices on that. If you are having a great time, hey, excellent, I wish you lots of fun. Just don't expect me to share it simply because you say so. Fun is extremely subjective.

I also have no reason to report you, don't even know why you'd bring this up. All we are having is a conversation.

I've only just started playing and not really familiar with all the background to this, but I really see absolutely nothing wrong with what Tasos has said. I do not draw anything like the interpretation you have placed on his response, it seems perfectly reasonable to me...

Now if we were talking about Smed from SOE
