The new rumor now is cryptic is producing Hogwart's Online. Really? I guess Harry Potter has a lot of appeal for some people but I never made it through the first 30 minutes or so of any of the movies without falling asleep.
Why would WB license the Harry Potter IP to Cryptic when they own Turbine?
You want to reward people with free game time for referrals, fine, that's all outside of the game and I could care less. But if you reward them by giving them an item (I don't even tolerate fluff ) that I can't get in game, you've crossed the line and its unnaceptable.
CCP gave items not in game with referral program but it looks like you dont know .Look to DCII and search when it added to game

I wouldn't discount it not being NWN to be Harry Potter instead. NWN would be the same as WOW. I could see a Harry Potter MMO being developed and marketed in the same fashion as STO. $$$$$$$$$$$
Bill Roper:
Champions Online was the first time I was able to step outside the fantasy and sci-fi universes, and it was a great challenge and a lot of fun. After being away from it for a while, I'd love to get back to a more fantasy-driven world - but with some kind of twist. Warcraft was high fantasy, Diablo was gothic fantasy, and Hellgate: London was a fantasy/sci-fi mashup. I'd love to be able to create another world that has a fantasy element, but tries to bring something else to the genre at the same time.

Well it will not be a NWN MMO, until such time as Atari can get Hasbro to settle out of court, retaining rights to continue using the IP. I highly doubt that Hasbro would be willing to agree to those terms, since Atari made the cardinal sin of selling off publishing rights to Atari's games in Europe (including the D&D based ones) to Namco-Bandai, something Hasbro's contract with Atari expressly forbid. I guess Cryptic could try to hurry a NWN MMO out the door before the matter is settled in court (I do not believe there is currently a cease and desist order), but that would be extremely foolish of them as Hasbro winning the case would mean that any Cryptic made NWN MMO would have to immediately shut down.
As for a Harry Potter MMO being made by Cryptic? That is extremely unlikely: There have been a few companies that have put a lot of work and effort into demonstration models for one, and each one has been shot down; Rowling keeps an iron grip on her IP, even more than Games Workshop does on theirs, and no company has met her exacting standards yet. While Cryptic might convince Rowling to give them a shot, their end product (going by their recent work) would definately not meeet her standards. Additionally, as other have said, Turbine would be the most logical choice due to their indirect links to the Potter franchise anyway.
"Oh my, how horrible, someone is criticizing a MMO. Oh yeah, that is what a forum is about, looking at both sides. You rather have to be critical of anything in this genre as of late because the track record of these major studios has just been appalling." -Ozmodan

There are differences: Cryptic's effort is a pyramid selling scheme to get new customers and the rewards are just for the guy at the top of each pyramid. In EVE, CRII and BCSII BPOs were in the blueprint lottery and being produced already (but were high demand). The DCIIs that got produced from the referrals were sold pretty much for the same price as or just above T2 large guns ~25M Isk. The reward was shared and ultimately benefited a wide group of customers. If you could afford the DCIIs and wanted them you bought them otherwise you chose an available lower meta alternative.
I know which referral scheme is the more cynical of the two: Cryptic's

I was a rumor that has been floating around the sto forums. I was just questioning why make a potter mmo. I guess there are more people who want to play 8 year old wizards. Although if cryptic did make it, they've already got the perfect box art already done up for them in the massively article.

harry potter makes sense, no mmo player is going to go anywhere near there next game, so hogwarts is a brand new group of customers.
IF THE ONLY DEFENCE FOR CRITICISM OF A GAME IS CALLING SOMEONE A TROLL OR HATER, THAT SAYS A LOT ABOUT THE QUALITY OF THE GAME
wheres the awesome klingon ship for 5 refs?
Cryptic hates klingon people. there is none.
The way the RAF reads on the atari page, klingons get..... the galaxy X.
