Yes, you've read it right. On august 12 World of Tanks was released in Russia, and it turned out that in order to play with friends (to create parties or platoons as its called in WoT) you have to have a premium account. Only 1 person must have a premium account so others can join him, but as a matter of fact WoT is now the 1st MMO where you have to pay to play with friends.
So, pals, what do you think of it?

WHAT!!!! really ?? that really sucks and it might even break the game for me and my mate we loved WoT on the basis that you don't have to use the item mall to play the game it seems that WoT closed beta is the best it willl get for me and my mate
really thou these FTP games cost you more then PTP (pay to play)
and the way they force there items on you is just stupid (allods)
hope that WoT is playable without paying over the odds for stupid stuff just to play the game
WAS really looking forward to this game
Played AoC,WaR,Allods, archlord,WoW,Fallen Earth, and many more

Same here. I loved playing WoT with my friends in CBT, but being unable to do so in releease makes WoT boring.
I hope WoT wont become second ololods. As of now devs are gathering data and, based on the gather data, and (to some extent) reaction on forums, might add an ability create 2ppl party for free users and 3ppl party for premiums (right now only premiums can create party which can consist of 3ppl max). I hope they will do so before the english release.

People get excited over this and I don't know why...currently you can be together in almost every game you play for free.....the only rub is that you MAY not be in the same game and if you are, you MAY not be on the same side. What you (or one of your friends) would be paying for is a "guaruntee" that you and your friends are in the same game and on the same side. The game is still fun whether the option is there or not...so why worry over it? Most groups in other games you play you end up with random people in your group, they can be very good or really suck.....same thing here.
My problem with this concept is that I have more than 2 or 3 friends......so.....who gets left out when a group is formed? Meh...might as well stick with the randoms.
My .02!
Cheers1
well really it's not that we would pay it's just the sheer cheek of the fact im worried about them getting really greddy and making so you have to pay for there things in order play
Now if it's a case of you have to pay to keep up with the other players thats not there fault
the more you let them get away with the worse it gets STOP THEM while there young
im just confused that your happy to pay NOBODY IS HAPPY TO PAY FOR ANYTHING!!!!!! thats a fact
i don't suppose your happy to pay for that TV bill or anything so why should we pay over the odds to go and play with our mates
we could just go outside and paintball for free (well i can)

I spend 10 US dollars to see a movie. If I add in popcorn and a drink and its another 8 bucks. If they charge 10 to 15 per month for a premium account so that I can make sure my friends will be on my team when we click the battle key then that is a cheap amount for the fun I have. When you have played over 100 battles you will find that too many players go in different directions and don't support your flank or attack. That is what sucks. Since it is beta now you cannot really get mad for long at this. I'm not paying a dime of my hard earned cash, just my time and so far it has been really fun. Join a clan, work on a stratgey and watch your enemies fall apart because your team works together instead of everyone goling solo.
This is all entertainment, what you pay will have a cost vs. reward payment plan. For me a 15 buck cost for a month of fun vs a movie for the same price that ends in 3 hours is a no brainer.
Hope to see you all
Schreck
Not really suprised, they seem to be nickle and diming everything in the game. It's just another pay-to-win game in my book.
To find an intelligent person in a PUG is not that rare, but to find a PUG made up of "all" intelligent people is one of the rarest phenomenons in the known universe.
For example - you are in a medium tank, behind a rock facing a heavy tank with frontal armor so thick you cant penetrate it. If you have a friend he circles the heavy and shoots him in the ass. If you dont, heavy circles the rock and facerapes you. If you have random, random will shoot it from behind his own rock doing some damage, and then he gets faceraped by heavy who've already killed you.
When you start playing the game, its fun. Later you want to play with friends but you cant. Is it fun? No >_<
10-15 bucks a month isnt that much for a mmorpg. But WoT is posed as a f2p lobby mmo, and having to pay 10-15 bucks just for an ability to play with a friend fucking sucks. Dont forget that to get something other than an ability to play with your friend, you have to pay more. Still having fun?
p.s. Right now I'm talking about russian release of the game, international will be the same, but gets updates later than russian.
p.p.s. In CBT I won 50% of the games as I was stuck with randoms. In OBT I had 66% win rate as I was playing with my friend. What I'm driving at is that its not only fun to play with a friend, but you can actually change the outcome of a battle.
And other than that... its so stupid not being able to play with a friend, fucking single player trial my ass.
IZI MODO?! Ha-ha-ha!
wow, what a bunch of whiny people who think a company needs to give them everything for free...
you want to play with your friends then all it takes is for the bunch of you to pool the money you make from your paper routes and get one of you a premium account...
we don't even know the amount it's going to cost for premium yet, it could be a small amount like 5 a month for all we know
And honestly, if you don't like it, go play something else.
wow, what a bunch of greedy people who think people need to give them money for anything...
Lots of troll on RU forums made statements like that, and they might be right if... you dont take in consideration a few things: Whose account is it going to be? If we share we'll break EULA. If we dont, we'll have to wait for friend to start playing. If we do, we lvl his tanks, not ours. His tanks outlevel our tanks because he gets 50% extra exp. We can level the same tanks which we use on our accounts, going through BT7 maturing stage twice. And, ofc, we pay to have friends.
If it suits you, well, your welcome. It doesnt suit me for all that I care.
10$ a month on russian servers. Keep in mind that generally russians pay less for their versions of games, as 40$ or 40e for a game is just too expensive considering salary in Russia.IZI MODO?! Ha-ha-ha!
TBH, you really can't play any game without premium.
The open beta begins September 1st and will probably last through the month. I have yet to decide to subscribe or play past open beta. Closed beta was quite fun but there's a limit on how much I'm willing to pay.
I love this game and plan on buying a premium account anyhooo. Depending on how successful the game is on the Russian side may determine if they keep this for the EU/NA release. I'm going to bet they will get rid of it. Enough folks will buy the gold/accounts to make the rule unnecessary.
This is really bad new's for me, and will probably stop us playing.
The EU just recently got the patch that allows Platoons of 3, to think that you cant make them larger is just INSANE. if you have to pay to access a platoon size of 3, does this mean that their going to charge for clans as well then ?
I mean the whole game is based around clans fighting over terratory, but if I need to pay hard cash to actually create a clan they can take their game and shove it right up their ********.
@ the OP , could you give us a link to your source , I dont speak russion so a direct link would be nice so I can google translate it.
You don't like the F2P content? Pay for the premium membership or purchase gold. It ain't more complicated than that.
Yes it is, F2P systems like this just leech money from the users by forcing them to pay for stuff that they feel they need or do actually need to enjoy the game.
I would rather pay a monthly subscription and get it all at once that keep paying out more and more each week for more gold.
No one is forcing you to pay nor 'leeching' money from you.
If you prefer a monthly payment, purchase a premium membership. If not, purchase gold, play free content or simply walk away.
I guess it is too difficult and too much effort for some people to have options and take decisions....
How much is a Monthly Membership ?
What does that give you, does it let you have 3 people in a Platoon ? and what of the clan warefare were told about. its so annoying that the EU and RU versions are at different stages, things would be much simpler if we were able to read the info directly .
Exchange rate for Russian version is 1 USD for 250 Gold. I don't know for sure what the monthly premium membership is there but I think it is 2500 Gold = 10 USD
Russian version was released prematurely due high demand for the game.
And what about the land controlling guild/clan system how much of that requires you to pay money. and does a premium membership give access to this or is it additional ?
I dont mind paying the normaly monthy fee for a premium membership, but I will refuse to pay additional for stuff that most mmo's simply give.
Thanks for the laugh.
You seem to be missing the point that this is (perhaps) the first 'mmo' that is trying charge for you to play with friends. It's called the tipping point. People are not complaining about the money per say, they are complaining that it further proof of the downward spriral that is the P2W model.
As for your last part, you will find many will simply play something else due to this news, reducing the life expectancy of this particular game even more.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
There is no guild/clan system yet. Territorial warfare is to come yet - probably will not come with release, dunno.
Additional gold purchases are for consumable - short duration buffs and ammo and premium tanks(not directly affecting game balance).
The game is still in closed beta(EU version) and under development.
Its in release in Russia, so you cant say its still in beta. its only in beta for the EU because they have to translate stuff. or are you sauing that both versions of the game will differ and have their own dev cycles. ?
All subscription based games charge you for that.
Thanks for the laugh.
Wow that was insightful, pray tell me is WoT purely a subscription based game? Is this a discussion about subscription based mmos? Nice way to compare apples and oranges in the hope of deflecting from a momentously bad decision on the devs part.
Btw imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.
"Come and have a look at what you could have won."
As I said already, Russian version was released prematurely, it isn't beta technically but basically it is.
The demand was so huge people wanted to pay for the game regardless the state the game was at.
EU is not delayed due translations but because they simply do not want to release the game to EU and US market in the state the game currently is.
They do want to make the game same versions but that ain't as easy to do as to say. With every patch you release, new bugs and issues will come so they prefer to have at least one more stable version(EU) and patch it once the new version is tested.
Yes, it is indeed funny situation when live version serves as a test server but that is how it is and for good, albeit unusual reasons.
Keep embarrassing yourself if you like, you do it quite well.
